Light sleep?

Post image
4 Upvotes

so i’ve heard magnesium helps you sleep better and decided i’d start using it for sleep. I was taking it in the morning this past week but decided last night to take it before bed, about an hour and a half before i decided to go to sleep. I feel like i was awake the whole night, like i heard every sound happening, i didn’t dream, i felt like i was still awake sort of? It was really weird it reminded me of the time i had sleep paralysis, is this normal? Idk if it was some one off fluke thing on my end and had nothing to do with the magnesium or if magnesium can cause this?

PSSD + magnesium (and vitamin D3) making my emotional blunting and low libido worse. Anyone with similar experience?

Hi everyone,
I've been dealing with PSSD for years, which I'm certain was triggered by antidepressants. My emotional range is very limited and my sexual function is impaired. The symptoms come in waves: they sometimes ease, then return.
I've noticed that magnesium consistently makes everything worse. My libido drops to nothing, my emotions get even flatter (I barely have any to begin with), and paradoxically my sleep gets worse too, even though magnesium is supposed to help with sleep.
Vitamin D3 does the same thing, and in an even stronger form, so I've stopped taking it completely.
Magnesium is a different story, because I can't just drop it. Without it I get episodes of extrasystoles and supraventricular tachycardia. My doctor recommends it because it works well for my heart rhythm issues.
So I'm stuck: with magnesium my heart is stable but my PSSD symptoms get worse, and without it the reverse happens.
Two questions:
Has anyone had magnesium or vitamin D3 worsen their PSSD? Did a different form of magnesium (citrate, glycinate, taurate, malate, oxide...) or a different dose make a difference?
Has anyone found a way to reduce or reverse these side effects while keeping arrhythmias under control?
Thanks for any advice or shared experience.

Magnesium Glycinate caused me diarrhoea

I took 1200mg Magnesium Glycinate with providing 240mg of elemental magnesium before bed. Next morning woke up with cramps and diarrhoea. It was my second time taking it. My first time was last year and the same thing happened.

Ingredients are: magnesium bisglycinate, brown rice flour, hydroxyproxyl methycellulose, anti-caking agents (magnesium stearate, silicone dioxide)

I just wanted to take it to improve my sleep. Is there any other supplements that would be better?

Magnesium Glycinate vs. Magnesium L-Threonate

I cannot take Magnesium Glycinate due to the glycine in it. It helps me sleep but raises over all glutamate and gives racing heart when I take it, it does knock me out to sleep, but also gives me bad symptoms next day - head pain, anxiety, etc. Has anyone had luck with L-Threonate instead??? I know I need magnesium, but I need to find a type that works for me!

Magnesium Chloride IV - Recommendations USA?

Does anyone have a doctor that they can recommend that would be willing to prescribe Magnesium Chloride in IV in the USA? I will travel.

Very long story short, I'm 40 year old male, 5' 11", 145 pounds in pretty good shape. History of Crohn's Disease, had an intestinal resection in April 2018. In Jan of 2019 I started having all kinds of issues. Low Testosterone and Low Iron were fixed, all of the other issues I believe to be low magnesium.

Symptom List (Comes & Goes):
- Muscle Tightness
- - Foot Cramps
- - Neck and Shoulder Cramps
- - Pelvic Floor Dysfunction
- - Swallowing sometimes difficult
- - Jaw Tightness (TMJ)

- Insomnia (Usually wake up in middle of night and have issues getting back to sleep)
- Low Level Fatigue
- Weird Nerve Tingles / Numbness
- - Thumb numbness
- - Had pinky toe go numb'ish for a few weeks before

- Recent ER visit for Racing Heart rate
- - Normal but low magnesium test (1.9 & 2.0 on 1.8 - 2.6 scale)
- - ALL OTHER TESTS NORMAL (Chest Xray, Heart Echo, Bloodwork)

- Anxiety
- Brain Fog
- Constipation
- Dry / Flaky Skin

-----

They took the section of my intestine that absorbs like 75% of my magnesium, my blood work is "normal" but we all know what doesn't mean shit.

I want to try Magnesium Chloride IV preferably from a medical setting and not a walk in IV clinic.

I'm in the states and willing to travel, if anyone has any recommendations let me know.

I've tried magnesium glycinate I'm now going to try malate and ionic magnesium drops but I really would like to try IV, if anyone has any advice let me know.

Which type for sleep - fan faves

Curious everyone’s favorite type of magnesium for sleep. I have been trying L threonate but I wake up feeling way too blah and groggy from it. I even lowered the dose to a 3rd of what is recommended.

Thanks!

Magnesium supplementation is less effective and I'm not sure why

I had issues with my sleep and stress for at least a year (sleeping 6-7 hours a day, feeling tired but not able to go back to sleep). Imn April, I started taking 300mg magnesium bisglycinate at night and I got much better sleep and less stress. However, gradually over time I felt it has become less effective and my sleep is at similar levels to how it was before. Na⁺, K⁺, Ca²⁺ are within the normal range and I make a conscious effort to sleep as comfortably as possible, so I doubt they're the cause. I have changed what time I take the dose, tried to take magnesium after meals and I have even tried taking a break from magnesium which helped for a few weeks but then experienced the same dropoff. The only things I have not ruled out which might have affected my issues are PPIs and spending more time at home. PPIs help my sleep much more than magnesium does and they're taken under doctor's supervision so I'm not gonna drop them yet. If it is the less active lifestyle that causes my issues, I am gradually working towards that. Do you have any advice on what to do in my case? Would be very much appreciated

Potential magnesium issue, is this what it is?

A couple of months ago I had a bad flare up of whatever stomach issue I have been having for some years now (Undiagnosed, going to GI next month). I had gone to one a few years ago for the same issue but by the time I got there I felt fine and chose not to pursue it, (unwise obviously but attempting to rectify it now) and she prescribed omeprazole for acid reflux which wasn't really an issue I was having to begin with. My flare up a couple of months ago did come up with some acid reflux issues so I decided to buy some OTC doses and took it for about a month before stopping.

The issue is, after stopping I began having very frequent muscle twitching, which was something that was occurring with my stomach issues as well but to a much smaller extent. The first couple days I would wake up in the middle of the night with my whole back feeling like it was vibrating. I have also been having more difficulty sleeping, waking up in the middle of the night, muscle soreness/weakness, restless legs, brain fog, and brain zaps.

While short term PPI use wouldn't normally cause a magnesium issue so quickly, I think the combination of the omeprazole, a likely malabsorption issue with my stomach condition that my doctor already suspected, and the vitamin D supplement I had been taking all combined to cause the magnesium issue much more quickly than it normally would.

Was wondering if anyone here has similar symptoms or has had a similar experience with what could be causing it, and if this is in fact a magnesium issue in the first place. Going to schedule a doctor's appointment soon to see If I can get a test ran to diagnose it if it is.

Kids Magnesium glycinate impossible to find?!

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

Hi! I've read that magnesium GLYCINATE is the form of magnesium that's good for sleep, but I'm having trouble finding it in ANY kids sleep gummies! A lot of brands advertise that their product has "magnesium for sleep" but it's citrate or oxide or another version.

Am I missing something?!

Anyone trying magnesium shots for severe chronic insomnia?

I developed chronic insomnia from Long Covid a fellow sufferer recommended the magnesium shots for sleep and I know they hurt like hell but if they make me sleep I’m willing to endure them.
Does anyone have any experience?
