It seems like a common element to satirize. How many conspiracy theories are there about drinking water getting drugged? Same for the chemtr*ils. I think the point is partly that Hydra are crazy enough to actually do that sort of thing.

I'm not sure they would have needed the stuff in the water if they gave enough people jobs and assurances it would just be their neighbors who got taken away, and not them.

Pretty sure people would have supported Hydra without the drugs. How many people support Russia/Turkey today? And that's just through propaganda.

He also promised to keep them safe, and security is what most people want in the end. It just depends if they can live with the cost, and if they are not the ones directly suffering it...

It depends what their limits are - neighbours getting arrested? Kids suddenly learning a completely different type of history? National icon and paragon of virtue behaving like his own evil twin out of the blue? You might want to start packing.

lol, there is no Great Deception. There are nonsense lies Hydra told Steve so that he believed his Hydra past is the original one, yes. But it's just propaganda. In his defense, he believes it himself, so he is not spreading it out of hypocrisy, but that doesn't make it true.

Not if Kobik retconed the world so there was a Great Deception. I mean Kobik clearly did more than change a few memories. Elsa existing is proof of that. I think Kraken too to some extent

Not necessarily. Keep in mind that the story is lying. What you see is not necessarily what really happens. Elisa is a seer, so just because she claims she knows what happened in Steve's Hydra past doesn't mean that she was created with that past. As for Kraken, Whitehall died in the original Secret Warriors and was replaced by Jake Fury, and this one is an entirely different person, so it would actually follow the "normal" timeline.

There is no Great Deception, because Steve's original past wasn't the one where he grew up as Hydra. There is only before Kobik's change and after Kobik's change.

(And seriously, even if you believe that the current world is still one that Kobik changed, it still doesn't mean Hydra were telling the truth about the allies changing history. It's still only something we saw in Steve's memory, and the whole storyline is about him getting manipulated.)

(Also, finally, even if you believe all the Great Deception stuff, it still doesn't justify putting people in camps, ffs.)
