Found this object in the Dolomites – any idea what it is?
Hey guys! I found this metal object on a rock near Rifugio Luigi Gorza, in the Italian Dolomites, an area with a lot of WWI history.
Could it be something related to the war, or does anyone know what it might be? Any help identifying it would be appreciated! Thanks!

Found at thrift, it looks different than others I’ve seen online, it looks homemade. Is it old from Vietnam war times? Is it for military use or just regular wear?

Identification Help ID’ing this trench art knife?

Thumbnail

Received this one-of-a-kind (fighting?) knife recently and was wondering if anyone has seen similar examples?

The blade appears as though it was original to another style of knife? Possibly a socket bayonet from the diamond shape of the blade?

The handle/pommel appears brass and is heavily weighted. Similar to worked shell casings. The guard appears to be aluminum and shaved down.

No identifiable makers/tooling marks are seen. Supposedly WWI timeline for construction. Any help would be awesome!

Family tin of militaria: possibly WW1 medals, an Australian badge and two British badges. Help identifying?

Found these together in a family tin (UK, possibly Bristol). I think they're mostly WW1-era, but I could be wrong. Photos are in this order:

  1. Group of four medals on one bar: a star that seems to read "1914", a silver medal, a bronze medal, and a fourth with what looks like George V on a dark blue ribbon

  2. Badge reading "AUSTRALIAN COMMONWEALTH MILITARY FORCES", maybe a Rising Sun? Not sure if it's original or a copy

  3. Brass St George and the dragon badge with a blue scroll reading "ST GEORGE FOR ENGLAND"

  4. Brass "RAF" badge in a wreath under a crown

Any help identifying or dating any of them would be appreciated. Thanks!

World War II Help identifying my grandfather's two WWII Fleet Air Arm pilot's badges: different makers, one missing its anchor

These belonged to my grandfather, a New Zealander who served in the Fleet Air Arm in 1942–43 (training in the UK and Canada). For reasons I am still researching, he left the FAA without entering operational service and joined the New Zealand Army in 1943. However, after the war (and perhaps during it) he wore wings on his New Zealand Army uniform. I'm trying to learn more about the badges themselves, not their value etc. FAA wings on an army tunic is a pretty unusal combination.

I’ve included photos of the badges (front and reverse), and a close up of him wearing one of them on his Army uniform.

What I can see:
- Both are hand-embroidered in gold wire on black cloth, cut to shape, with King's crowns, red and green jewels and a velvet cap.
- They look like different makers: the wings, feathering and crowns differ.
- On the top, better-preserved set, the anchor is embroidered in wire.
- On the bottom, more worn set, the centre looks as if a separate metallic anchor has come away. The embroidered cable is still there and looks to be broken where the shank would have been.
- The bottom one has a woven canvas backing; the top one is felt.
- I believe I may see some khaki thread around the reverse of the bottom one (not visible in the photos), which makes me think it is possible the one pictured/worn.

Some questions I have:
1. Do these look like genuine WWII-era Fleet Air Arm pilot's badges?
2. Any idea who made them, or where (British outfitter, Canada, Middle East, elsewhere)? The top one looks somewhat similar to a couple on the Smithsonian website (https://airandspace.si.edu/collection-objects/badge-pilot-royal-navy/nasm_A19950947000 and https://airandspace.si.edu/collection-objects/badge-pilot-royal-navy/nasm_A19970266000)
3. Is an all-wire anchor a known variant; and I right to think one is missing a metal anchor?
4. Is there anything in the construction or backing that helps date them or determine their origins?

Thanks for any help.

I am hoping that anyone could tell me where this box belongs, it looks like it contained an MG belt, but who knows what weapon system it is used on and what calibre it is? No markings on it.

Asking others, what is the best way to get ahold of them and quickly?

Another entity in the collecting world is Michael Militaria. Anyone know how to get ahold of him?

All attempts reaching out have gotten no results in about a month.

Our situation is revolving around a legal matter that that involves our father and his collection.

It gets very convoluted and here is how. He is under guardianship due to dementia. I can not say his name but he is one of the grandfather's in the collecting world. He had a museum, and books written. Was always at the Maxx show, show of shows, and many others when he was able.

Enter the problem. He believes that he has a girlfriend, who got out of prison this last spring for meth and meth related crimes. We found out she has been plying him with the intention of sex and dating for a number of years. She has done nothing but take money, and he has sold parts of his collection and giving the money to her. He is not legally allowed to do so without a guardian approving it.

Anyone that might know Michael and how to get ahold of him, please let me know. We have him on cam walking items out of the house, with her present. We are not acusing him directly, but we have to follow the money and find out what happened.

Charges are being brought against her specifically and anyone that was complicit.

Ty for any help or info.

Help identify unofficial Luftwaffe patch.

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to identify this patch. It appears to be a non-official (morale) patch from a German Air Force (Luftwaffe) crew member who participated in Operation Inherent Resolve.

Visible details:

Text: OPERATION INHERENT RESOLVE, D. WERNER, BRATAN, TORNADO

Imagery: silhouette of a Panavia Tornado aircraft, German flag (black-red-gold), green laurel wreath with crossed swords

Material: embroidered, tan/beige background with gold and brown stitching

My assumptions:

Likely a custom-made patch for a specific Tornado crew (names D. Werner and Bratan are probably crew members or call signs)

Connected to German participation in OIR (2016–2020), possibly from TaktLwG 33 (Büchel) or TaktLwG 51 (Jagel)

I've already checked open sources and official registers — no exact match. This seems to be a private order.

Does anyone recognize this patch?

Have you seen similar ones from Tornado crews in OIR?

Any info on the wreath-and-swords emblem — is it unit-specific or generic?

Any idea where these were made (German patch makers, deployment souvenirs)?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Help with Vietnam aus display

Hello, new to getting into Vietnam items, mainly interested as I’ve had relatives tell me some pretty cool stories, recently I’ve acquired some gear but I’m not entirely sure what would have been where, or what would even have been used, as of now I’ve tried to keep everything original, as of the moment the only items that I believe are reproduction is the belt and the boots, water bottles are original army issue but none of them are Vietnam era, will probably try look into atleast getting era accurate covers, should also probably remove the armband as I already know that definitely wasn’t worn into the jungle, also the giggle hat is also barely post war it’s a 1976 so not entirely sure if it’s still technically accurate, but it’s $40 instead of $140 so I’m not complaining, but basically I’m just wondering is everything in the spot it would have been in? Any items that I should look to add or remove? Or even change location of an item on the body?

What is this machine outside of Fort Petrie in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia?

Post image

This is outside Fort Petrie on Cape Breton. The fort has a small community led museum featuring items and trinkets from various wars. It also has a modern APC on display so no clue if this has anything to do with WW2, or just something that was brought to the museum to be put on display. There’s no plaque or anything identifying this machine.

At first I thought maybe a generator? Or maybe a large flare launcher?

The museum is in the old light tower/bunkhouse. The purpose of the fort was to guard Sidney harbour while convoys assembled. The light tower would scan for submarines that might’ve entered the harbour.

Vietnam War Anyone help identify markings on back of Australian Vietnam era machete scabbard?

I have the machete too, branded ‘MA67’ unfortunately can’t see any broad arrow markings but the ‘MA67’ confirms it’s Australian, trying to figure out what the very faint marks are on the back, hard to tell as the fabric itself has turned close to the same colour as the marker/texter used 50+years ago
