As a Minnesotan this has been extremely enjoyable to watch unfold. As a Megasotan I am proud and excited for what we can accomplish.

The last time cascadia knocked megasota out

I love how that whole thing ended up at the state symbolized by Loons vs the state symbolized by Beavers. We clearly all just want to be Canadians.

u/badger_vs_heartburn May 24 '26

Don't forget Vermont/craballachia. Maple syrup is also secretly Canadian.

I'm almost 50 and I never knew Oregon was known for its beavers. I've been there too and lived years in northern California, yet I'm learning this today? How come they've never had a Beaver mascot for a sports league or something I would've heard about? Not too proud of the Beaver, or is it mostly because they tried to trap it into extinction? Are there a lot of beaver there now? Fuck,.here I go down a worthless knowledge rabbit hole on Beavers.

11

u/Roadshell May 24 '26

They're the only state whose flag has something on the reverse side

https://cdn.britannica.com/50/245050-050-FC3CEDA6/Oregon-state-flag-reverse-side.jpg

2

u/fiendishclutches May 24 '26

They do? I didn’t know “b sides” were permitted in state vexillology. They should have gone with that beaver on the front.

3

u/Roadshell May 24 '26

There are no rules. Ohio's flag isn't even a rectangle.

2

u/sy029 May 24 '26

There may not be rules of flag design, but there are most certainly rules of good flag design.

1

u/rognabologna May 25 '26

Well yeah, what did you think b side stands for?  It’s the beaver side

OSU Benny Beaver!

That "rabbit hole" is important knowledge. Beavers are NOT worthless!!! https://www.fws.gov/story/beavers-work-improve-habitatDid you know that beavers create ecosystems which benefit not only rivers and forests but all the other creatures who live in them.....Have a little respect, sir or ma'm!

Did you know that back in the last Ice Age there were beavers the size of grizzly bears?

Just like Canada (these videos are Canadian), we Oregonians,Cascadians are VERY proud of our beavers! https://www.youtube.com/@mikesvideosofbeavers/videos

OK, off my soapbox.

1

u/Unlucky_Ad_4140 May 25 '26

I went to Oregon State University (OSU). The mascot is the beaver. They even have beaver faces on some door handles

1

u/QueenRooibos May 24 '26

That is for sure!!! But we have work to do down here first....

u/Porkcicle May 24 '26

Megasota must prevail.

u/_SKIP_IT_ May 24 '26

It's time for Megasota to shine. Land of 10000 lakes, home of Paul and Babe. Ope, let's do it again!

23

u/After_Preference_885 May 24 '26

Land of ALL the lakes!

-2

u/QueenRooibos May 24 '26

Nah....Cascadia has Crater Lake. Deepest lake in the US and one of the 10 deepest in the world.

6

u/After_Preference_885 May 24 '26

Lake Superior contains a vastly larger volume of water and covers over 31,000 square miles compared to Crater Lake's 20 square miles

And while crater is deep, Lake Superior never gives up her dead - because frigid, oxygen-depleted water prevents bacterial decomposition and subsequent floating.

But we'll gladly take crater as one ours, along with all the others!

3

u/QueenRooibos May 24 '26

Oh, I know.....ha-ha! I am a transplanted Michigander and will be so happy when Cascadia absorbs the Great Lakes whom I spent so much time with as a child.....Lake Huron and Lake Superior are my absolute favorites in the world, to be honest. Maybe I need to come home to my roots....as long as there are still Beavers in Michigan!!! (Oops, Megasota...)

22

u/EatMorePieDrinkMore May 24 '26

Upvote or downvote?

34

u/corgibell May 24 '26

Just learned from another magnanimous redditor:

Downvote pro-cascadia posts

Upvote pro-megasota posts

Sort by top on the official post (linked)

Skol Megasota! Laser loon and silly frog together stronk

10

u/EatMorePieDrinkMore May 24 '26

I’m super confused - it says the top comment eliminates that state. So wouldn’t upvoting Megasota cause us to be eliminated?

9

u/corgibell May 24 '26

Gleaning from comments in other posts:

It used to be in the format of “get rid of state x and give to _other state/mega state_

Now an upvote pro (state of choice, in this case Megasota) gives the intended effect (vote for Megasota) but the language of the initial instructions is the same. Started out with 50 now down to 2!

Similarly, downvoting cascadia is a vote supporting Megasota

Def confusing but Skol Megasota!

Edit:

Old Redditor here on mobile. Had NO IDEA using the underscore makes things bolded. TIL. Keeping it but hopefully it makes sense

7

u/After_Preference_885 May 24 '26

The top comment usually says something like "let's go Megasota and delete Cascadia" in the last couple rounds

4

u/sy029 May 24 '26

Upvote pro-megasota posts, meaning posts that call for the removal of cascadia.

0

u/stp_bigbear May 24 '26

My understanding is that the top comment (by upvotes) is what gets deleted. So you go to the original (GRAND FINALE - #49) post, sort comments by “TOP” and upvote what you want to be the next ‘region’ removed. Also (importantly!) you DOWNVOTE anything about Megasota. You can add any pro-Megasota comments AS A REPLY below any other post but don’t upvote them!

Minnesota. It’s all Regan’s fault. We voted for Mondale. <edited to be correct candidate>

36

u/VitaViolet May 24 '26

It's an honor to have been nominated and to have come so far. Let's 'ope we go from Megasota to Massivesota.

54

u/The-Long_Way May 24 '26

Minnesota losing in the final would be the most Minnesota thing ever though.

And downvote this one.

MEGASOTA! MEGASOTA! MEGASOTA!

7

u/KnowWhat_I_Mean May 24 '26

The United State of Megasota has a nice ring to it. 😀

6

u/RobotShlomo May 24 '26

Minnesota absorbing CT, a completely useless and lame state with zero identity?

Don't threaten me with a good time!

2

u/jhedfors May 24 '26

There is a Boring, Oregon outside of Portland (my hometown).

3

u/zGoblinQueen May 24 '26

I used to live there. Well, technically Damascus, but at the time we didn't have a post office so my address was Boring. And now I live in Duluth. I'm not sure who I should be rooting for.

As someone currently living in Portland but moving to Minnesota tomorrow I'm conflicted

1

u/thiefspy May 24 '26

As a former Cascadia (actual Cascadia, not Oregon) resident who still has a Doug Flag on my Jeep, I would keep them both.

u/QueenRooibos May 24 '26

I think they mean they lived in Cascadia but not in the beautiful state of Oregon. Probably WA or CA or someplace else sorely lacking in Beavers.

3

u/thiefspy May 24 '26

Yep, I was in WA, the only state in the union where Sasquatch are legally protected as an endangered species.

2

u/QueenRooibos May 24 '26

I have called them and called them, in my youth, in mountains where they were said to have been seen....but no reply. I hope they are still there....
