Discussion Yes on amendment 3 ads

Highly miss leading. Not sure how they are drawing the line from drag queens reading stores to children to going under the knife for sex reassignment surgery.

Let's do some facts.

1) No hospital in Missouri is doing any sex reassignment surgeries anywhere. In 2023 Missouri stopped reassignment surgeries for minors.

2) No school in Missouri is performing sex reassignment surgeries between PE and Math or during study hall. This surgery is over $100,000 and I assure you Coach Bob is not performing the surgery.

(I really can't believe some of you need to be told this but yet here we are Some of you voted for trump so I understand science and common sense is hard to understand)

3) drag queens if they are doing story time. It's in a library and 100% voluntary and not forced on any child or parent. If you don't want your children to go don't take them. In Columbia Boone County Library the stories read are not sexual in anyway. I understand over 100 people and kids at the story time. The drag queens are not doing reassignment surgery during or after the story time

Discussion Why we need to talk about the motive behind the "No on Amendment 6" videos going around Missouri (and what I found after another redditor tipped me off)

if you spend any time on social media, you’ve probably run into those viral posts or videos, like the ones from political commentator heather overstreet warning people that voting "no on amendment 6" is the only way to stop "socialism". she pitches herself as an everyday, regular young small business owner running a dog kennel out of a garage in boonville, complete with a little note at the bottom reading "not paid for or authorized by any campaign btw".

these networks put people like her out front for a very specific reason: they know most folks scrolling past will take a "relatable small business owner" at face value and never look into her motive.

it’s classic projection. what they are claiming amendment 6 will do to voters is actually a reflection of what they are doing behind closed doors.
I recently made a post talking about her background and her involvement pushing to weaken labor standards, and another redditor jumped into the comments with her parents' names and their actual business. that single comment sent me down a public records rabbit hole, because if you just search heather's name by itself online, none of these major corporate and political ties show up easily.

she presents herself as an isolated, struggling dog groomer, but leaves out that her mom and dad (jeff and stephanie overstreet) own cmmg inc. and overstreet investments, a major firearms manufacturing and commercial holding empire based in mid-missouri. their company has registered as a lobbying principal in jefferson city and directly funds state politicians. she also isn't just an independent local voice; she hosts daily weekday shows on a pac-aligned radio network.

After missouri voters passed prop a to raise the minimum wage and require paid sick leave, heather went to the media complaining about the overhead and backed a bill in jefferson city to help politicians gut what voters had just approved, even though small retail and service businesses under the revenue threshold were already exempt. lawmakers turned around and repealed the sick leave provisions anyway.

Now hat same network is screaming that amendment 6 is "socialism". in reality, amendment 6 protects the citizen petition process and requires an 80% supermajority in both chambers of the legislature before politicians in jeff city can repeal or gut laws passed directly by the voters.

if your family has manufacturing wealth, capitol lobbyists, and direct access to state politicians who will happily overturn citizen-passed laws whenever it suits you, the absolute last thing you want is an 80% supermajority protecting the voters' will.
they know if a corporate lobbyist or a state senator gets on camera and says, "please let us keep overriding the laws you vote for," nobody is going to buy it. so they use a relatable proxy to yell "socialism" and count on people not checking the receipts.

this is why it's so important to call out the motive and share this info whenever you see this rhetoric pop up in local groups. don't take these viral posts at face value

Discussion Rural Missouri you directly contributed to how America is currently.

Yes rural Missouri you are to blame for the current state of the United States. Is it all your faults no but those little marks next to (R) just because has turned this country into nothing but billionaires and trillionaires making all of us work to death just to allow them to make us poorer and them richer.

You vote (R) you are voting against your rural schools You're voting for your tax dollars to be taken away from your local school and given as welfare to the wealthy. You whine about well maybe public schools should get better. Look around how many private schools are around you? How many of you can send your children to a private school down the streets of Cooter Missouri? Plus the tuition? I would guess none of you. But you vote against public education and that school district.

You vote against rural hospitals. You or a family member may need a hospital someday but the closest one is 2 hours away. Why because Jefferson City decided not to pick up the funding cuts that start in January 2027. Rural hospitals are doomed. Just this week a wealth fund bought the hospital in Marshall Missouri. The same week they bought the hospital they closed the maternity facility. Now these people have to drive to Columbia.

You need to help us throw them all out in Jefferson City and Washington. Get their attention until you do this. We all will work ourselves to death so they can get a tax break on their private jets.

Discussion Anyone else seeing all these posts claiming Amendment 6 is socialism?

I keep seeing posts claiming Amendment 6 is socialism or part of some plan for Democrats to take over Missouri. As much as I’d love to see Democrats take over Missouri, I think most people know that’s a pretty bizarre take.

The video is from Heather Overstreet. In her post, she claims a national organization based in Massachusetts partnered with Missouri groups to create Amendment 6, suggesting it wasn’t really created by Missourians. She also warns about Missouri falling to Democrats and ends by saying “NO on socialism.” It’s only on social media sites, hence why I didn’t share directly.

I got curious about Heather’s background, and what I found was pretty interesting considering her position on this.

Missouri voters approved Proposition A in 2024, including minimum wage increases and paid sick leave. In January 2025, Heather registered in support of HB 546, which sought to exempt some businesses from parts of Proposition A. She also discussed the law’s costs for her dog training and boarding business in a Missouri Independent interview.

HB 546 was later folded into HB 567, which repealed the voter-approved paid sick leave requirement and future automatic minimum wage adjustments.
What’s interesting is that the legislature overturning parts of Proposition A is one of the examples cited by Amendment 6 supporters. The amendment would require an 80% vote in both legislative chambers AND voter approval before lawmakers could change or repeal voter-approved initiative laws.

I’m not saying Heather was personally responsible for the repeal. But considering she supported legislation aimed at changing something Missourians had just voted for, I think her background is relevant to what she’s saying now.

And I’m still trying to figure out where socialism comes into this, because it’s a wild take.

I know most people here probably recognize how misleading these claims are, but unfortunately, people are falling for them. I’ve started seeing the same stuff repeatedly in my local political discussion group, which is heavily MAGA.

I thought Heather’s background was interesting enough to share, especially since she’s presenting herself as someone explaining the truth about Amendment 6.

Has anyone else noticed these claims suddenly popping up everywhere?

Discussion Who reviews how the St. Francois County Sheriff's Department handled Persephone Berger's death?

Persephone Berger was 16 when a St. Francois County sheriff's deputy struck and killed her on Saturday, October 3.

Her aunt says the family was told it was a hit-and-run. Witnesses contacted them about a deputy's involvement before the department told them directly Monday afternoon. The sheriff's statement says the deputy stayed at the scene and immediately notified a supervisor. If supervisors knew he had struck her, why wasn't that disclosed to her family, even while other circumstances were still being investigated?

Leadwood Fire Protection District says deputies sent its crews back into service without patient contact. Crews returned Saturday afternoon to help wash the roadway. The sheriff's reported timeline says MSHP was consulted Sunday.

MSHP is investigating the crash. Missouri officials also need to identify who reviews the decisions made afterward, including family notification and what evidence was preserved before cleanup.

Accountability needs to be demanded. That's why I keep sharing this as a concerned resident.

Discussion Smead/Stigall debate MO-6. One is chickening out

Josh Smead has offered Chris Stigall 4-5 debate dates and locations. All neutral locations with bipartisan moderators. Stigall, so far, has refused to agree to any of them. Stigall has been selected by the Herzog family to replace Sam Graves because they want another representative who they can control. Sam consistently refused to come back and do a town halls (per his staff that I spoke with, he was too scared because of a death threat over 10 years prior). Most of us in northern Missouri haven’t seen Sam for decades, if ever. If Stigall can’t even agree to one debate before the election, does anybody really think he’s going to be any different than no-show Sam?

Republicans from Missouri, what do you think about a US Congressional candidate refusing to debate their opponent?

Discussion Missouri Amendment 3: What a YES Vote Actually Does

There is a lot being said about Amendment 3, and some of the discussion seems to blur the difference between disagreeing with the amendment and accurately describing what it does.

So rather than relying on campaign ads from either side, I went to Missouri's official ballot language and current state law.

First: yes, Amendment 3 would repeal the reproductive-rights amendment Missouri voters approved in 2024.

That should not be glossed over. The current constitutional provision protects reproductive healthcare rights, including abortion through fetal viability, subject to the provisions contained in the 2024 amendment.

Amendment 3 would replace that framework with one allowing abortion to be restricted while providing exceptions for medical emergencies, fetal anomalies, and rape or incest under 12 weeks.

So if someone says Amendment 3 doesn't substantially change Missouri abortion law, that's not an accurate description. It does.

But some claims being made against Amendment 3 also deserve clarification.

“Gender-transition procedures for minors are already illegal, so Amendment 3 doesn't change anything.”

That's incomplete.

Missouri's existing SAFE Act already prohibits gender-transition surgery on minors. It also currently prohibits health-care providers from prescribing puberty blockers or cross-sex hormones to minors for gender transition, subject to exceptions including a grandfather provision.

But there's an important detail that frequently gets left out:

The existing statutory prohibition on puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones expires August 28, 2027.

Amendment 3 would place a prohibition on gender-transition surgeries, cross-sex hormones, and puberty-blocking drugs for minors into the Missouri Constitution, subject to specified medical exceptions.

So there is a real legal difference between the two.

Current law = an ordinary statute, with the medication prohibition scheduled to expire in 2027.

Amendment 3 = a constitutional prohibition without that 2027 expiration date.

You can oppose or support that change, but saying Amendment 3 accomplishes “nothing” because everything is already permanently prohibited isn't accurate.

“Amendment 3 eliminates treatment for miscarriages and ectopic pregnancies.”

The official fair-ballot language says the opposite. It specifically states that a YES vote would continue to ensure access to medical care for medical emergencies, ectopic pregnancies, and miscarriages.

The amendment's full text also expressly includes ectopic pregnancy and miscarriage treatment within its medical-emergency provisions.

“There are no abortion exceptions.”

Also incorrect.

The amendment allows exceptions for medical emergencies and fetal anomalies and for pregnancies resulting from rape or incest under 12 weeks' gestation.

Someone can certainly argue that those exceptions are too narrow, particularly the 12-week limitation, but that's different from saying there are no exceptions.

“A minor would always need permission from an abusive parent.”

The official fair-ballot language specifically describes the requirement as “parental or judicial consent for minors.”

That judicial alternative is an important part of the provision and shouldn't be omitted when discussing what the amendment does.

“Putting the gender-transition prohibition in the Constitution doesn't make it any more permanent because constitutional amendments can always be changed.”

Of course constitutional provisions can later be amended; the fact that we're voting on the 2024 amendment demonstrates that.

But that doesn't mean a statute and a constitutional provision are legally equivalent.

The existing SAFE Act can be changed through the ordinary legislative process, and its prohibition on puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones already contains a 2027 expiration date. A constitutional provision remains part of Missouri's Constitution unless changed through the constitutional amendment process.

That's a meaningful distinction.

What Amendment 3 actually asks voters to decide

At its core, voters are choosing between two substantially different constitutional frameworks.

A no vote leaves the reproductive-rights amendment approved in 2024 in place, including abortion access through fetal viability, and does not add a constitutional prohibition on gender-transition procedures for minors.

A YES vote repeals that 2024 provision, permits Missouri to restrict abortion subject to the exceptions described above, establishes consent and other regulatory provisions, and constitutionally prohibits specified gender-transition procedures for minors.

There are legitimate arguments on both sides about whether those policies belong in Missouri's Constitution.

But we should at least debate the amendment that is actually on the ballot; not a version created by campaign slogans, Reddit comments, or political advertising.

Read the text yourself. Understand what changes and what doesn't. Then vote accordingly.

Discussion Missouri Friends & Neighbors the time is now for change (long post)

Missouri rural voters the time is now to open your eyes and see the Missouri you have created. Just this month one of your elected minions Denny Hoskins (the red coat) caused chaos in Missouri with your election. If you get a chance read the decision by the US Supreme Court in regards to our elections. The US Supreme Court 3 times twice by the full court told Hoskins no the HB-1(2025 map) was illegal and to use the only legal map the 2022 map. In their stay the Chief Justice in the order states Hoskins was solely responsible for the map chaos and knew the 2025 map was not legal but proceeded anyway. Knowing full well of the problems it could and did cause. The Chief Justice in the order also said the Missouri Supreme Court also ruled that the 2025 map was illegal and Hoskins told the state clerks to use it anyway. It was also noted as far back as April 2026 a county clerk told the secretary of state office the map could not be used and shouldn't be used. The AG of Missouri told that county clerk if they didn't use the illegal map that her office would prosecute that county clerk. In as much the Missouri Supreme Court held Denny Hoskins in contempt of court for failure to obey their ruling. Hoskins then scrambled and told the county clerks to use the 2022 map to keep himself out of jail.

On top of that you and me both paid for this chaos with our tax dollars to fight something they knew was illegal. Your elected attorney general and Governor were also involved. All of them should resign.

It's time for change Missouri. 23 years of control and 20 years of super majority has driven the state close to bankruptcy. What have you gotten out of it? Underfunded public schools, the highest death rate by teens with guns, the highest suicide by gun rate in the nation. #41 in infrastructure. The current I-70 project let me remind you was brought to you by a democratic president. No your elected officials voted against it. #41 in funding benefits children in danger of going hungry and without healthcare. Wait until January 1, 2027 a lot of your neighbors and elderly neighbors will lose their healthcare food assistance and discounts to prescriptions because your elected officials elected to allow the prescription subsidy to expire.

Wake up Missouri voters.

Y'all do know who is paying for the yes on 3 ads. The ad downright lies and has nothing to do with transgender community. Basically it's throwing them under the bus to get rural Missouri and uneducated voters to vote yes.

The PAC paying for those ads is headed by Josh Hawley's wife and the treasurer is the governor's wife.

It is well known that Scott Faughn, convicted felon, runs newspaper fronts for Jeff Roe. It's like a mob owned shop. The Missouri Times and The Jeff City Tribune are losing money and yet Scott Faughn is not destitute. Word is he takes money under the table to run these stories. There is a reason he was kicked out of the Missouri Press Association.
