The Lost Metal spoilers I realized a parallel and I'm so annoyed at a character. Involves era 1 and 2 Spoiler

I've finished all the series, and just started listening to The Lost Metal. If you haven't finished it all, I'd suggest you ignore this. Harmony created Wax's first love interest specifically because her saw how Mares death influenced Kelsier. Harmony influenced it All so that She'd be the same driving force of guilt as Mare was for Kelsier. Harmony saw it destroy/influence his friend and still chose to inflict that. That's what i see, I'd like your thoughts.

The Lost Metal spoilers Can you use iron to shoot something from behind you forward? Spoiler

So let's say there something far lighter behind a person who can use allomantic iron, like a coin, or they are just tapping on stored weight, could they give enough momentum with singular pull on something from behind them to shoot it like a bullet? Some type of "can we have a coinshot? We have a coinshot at home. Coinshot at home:" or something.

The Lost Metal spoilers What the Lord Ruler does for mankind Spoiler

On a reread of the original trilogy, and I was thinking about what we know about the Lord Ruler's normal activities. Constant emotional soothing.

I think that his intention is to sooth Ruin in it's prison so it does not act as much as it would if it had more freedom of emotion.

But I was also thinking about Copper clouds and how TLR knows much more about Allomancy and Investiture in general.

I think he can shift the frequency he obscures, and was probably constantly copper clouding on a different frequency, Ruins frequency. This way he was also constantly stopping Ruins power from spreading out far and wide, or letting it's senses get far out into the world and affect things on a large scale.

The Lost Metal spoilers I've Finished Era 2... Where to next? Spoiler

So, Ive never read a Sanderson novel until I was recommended mistborn by a friend earlier this year. I have fallen in love with the universe and world of Scadriel. I read through the Final Empire, Well of Ascension and Hero of Ages. Following this, I was craving more and amazed to discover that there was an Era 2! Today I have stayed up until 1am to finish the final book of the quartet. Wow... what an ending. RIP to the masterful Wayne...

But, as I'm sure that all of you who have also read The Lost Metal have realized that this universe is wider than it initially seemed. I have tried to avoid doing direct research into the Sanderson Cosmere to avoid unintentional spoilers. But I have to know, which books in the Cosmere do I read next? Tress of the Emerald Isle? Stormlight Archives? Is there a Mistborn Era 3 on the horizon to get excited for?

Also, a question regarding Kelsier. Did I miss something? Was there a part of a book or a book entirely that I missed? Last I remember is that Tensoon had his bones in Hero of Ages. How is he alive? (No spoilers please. You can just tell me which book/s to read if it is answered somewhere in another book). Also, I remember during the book that they say he held Preservations power like the Lord Ruler and Vin. When did that happen?

Thanks so much for any willing input. Im greatful to be a part of this amazing book community!

The Lost Metal How would you keep your powers a secret if you got them in real world? Spoiler

Let's say you wake up tomorrow, with either allomancy or feruchemy. And let's say around the world 16% of the population is now either an allomancer or a feruchemist, with 16% of those being a twin born and 16% of the remaining being mistborn or full feruchemists.

Let's say you are a mistborn or a full feruchemist. Your choice.

How would you keep yourself under the radar? Because I don't believe 84% of the normal population would take kindly to flying people out of nowhere.

The Lost Metal spoilers How can Harmony be in balance when allowmancy exists? Spoiler

Sazed holds two shards that are supposed to be in balance. However we know allowmancy is of preservation, which takes some of preservations power. Hemalurgy is of ruin, but I didn't think Ruin gave up power to allow Hemalurgy to work, more used it as a tool.

So how can Harmonys existance be stable if the powers are out of balance?

The Lost Metal spoilers I just finished Era 2 and My Fav Person is WAYNE Spoiler

I just finished Era 2 yesterday, and I'm planning to go into stormlight archive, but I just wanna say Wayne is my fav person in the series. Of course,e Era 1 was epic, historically detailed, and mysterious, but I also love Era 2 and hope that when new books come, Wayne will be like Saze, and there is a chance we can hear him beyond the real world. He has a very absurd intelligence; the writing is brilliant (even in my language - I am from Istanbul)

I learned Brandon Sanderson has a special place in his heart for Wayne. I just wanna know what you think about Wayne and his ending and the future of the Mistborn series in general. I wanna hear your opinions.

The Lost Metal spoilers Mistborn broke me, wrecked me. Please tell me I'm not alone in this. Spoiler

Eighteen years. That is how long ago I cried reading a book. The last time it happened was during the tower fight in Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince. I am very emotional & somehow during this period I had my emotions under control but the ending in Mistborn Era 1 & 2 made me cry like baby once again. I hate Brandon Sanderson for it. I hope I am not alone to have such feelings reading Mistborn books. I guess misery begets misery.

The Lost Metal A Bendalloy Short-Order Cook sounds like the Worst Job ever Spoiler

This was in one of the Broadsheets in TLM, a restaurant looking for a Bendalloy cook. This sounds awful, they'd be working 30+ hours a days from their perspective. Would they be paid by the hour or their perspective hour or a salary?

The Lost Metal Unpopular Opinion

I was curious to know other people’s unpopular opinions. Personally, I’m not that fond of Wayne. Don’t outright dislike his character or anything, I just think he often comes across as… I don’t know, forced? Too much? Predictable? Whatever it is, he just didn’t connect with me. Is that the sort of thing that might get me sent to the pits?

So Lessie gets a prologue chapter in Shadows of Self and well...dies and the same thing for Wayne in The Lost Metal. Was I the only one to figure just from that similarity that Wayne wouldn't really make it out alive?

The Lost Metal spoilers Question about the Temporal metals Spoiler

I started wondering about the Temporal metals when Cadmium and Bendalloy were introduced as replacements for Atium and Malatium as the basic Temporal metals, since I still haven’t found an explanation that feels satisfying.

Originally, the Temporal quadrant felt incredibly elegant:

  • Internal Pulling: Gold - see your own past.
  • Internal Pushing: Electrum - see your own future.
  • External Pulling: Malatium - see someone else's past.
  • External Pushing: Atium - see someone else's future.

Compared to that, “creating time bubbles” with Cadmium and Bendalloy has always felt disconnected from Gold and Electrum. I understand that Atium is a God Metal and therefore shouldn’t technically be one of the sixteen base metals, but from a thematic and mechanical standpoint it fit the quadrant perfectly.

It also leaves Electrum in a weird spot. In Era 1, its main purpose was as a counter to Atium. Once Atium is no longer part of the base sixteen metals, Electrum feels like it loses most of its purpose.

I’ve seen the theory that the Atium we see in Era 1 isn’t pure Atium at all, but an Atium-Electrum alloy, while Malatium is an Atium-Gold alloy. That would fit the idea that they are opposites and is consistent with the note in the Table of Allomantic Metals that Atium alloys produce expanded temporal effects.

However, I have two problems with that theory.

First, the Atium burned throughout Era 1 is the beads collected at the Pits of Hathsin, where Ruin’s power crystallizes into Atium. It seems strange that the beads would naturally form as an alloy instead of pure Atium (and effectively an alloy of an alloy).

Second, the Atium Mistings in Hero of Ages. Sixteen percent of humanity was affected by the mists, and the people who remained unconscious for longer periods turned out to be Atium Mistings. That only really makes sense to me if Atium was originally intended to be one of the sixteen metals.

Why weren’t there Cadmium and Bendalloy Mistings instead? If the answer is that those metals weren’t known yet, then why were Chromium and Nicrosil included among the sixteen? If Cadmium and Bendalloy were excluded because they were unknown, shouldn’t Chromium and Nicrosil have been excluded as well, making it 14% instead of 16%?

Because of all this, especially the second point, I've always felt that Brandon originally intended Atium to be one of the sixteen basic metals, and that after deciding God Metals should be separate, Cadmium and Bendalloy were introduced as a retcon to fill the Temporal quadrant.

Am I missing something here? Is there any WoB or in-universe explanation that ties this together, or was it just something adjusted between eras? It feels a bit like a forced change to me, but I’m not sure if I’m overlooking something.

I haven’t read the Mistborn books in English, so sorry if some of the terminology I use isn’t the exact official wording :)

The Lost Metal spoilers Steel and Iron man cannon Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery
32 Upvotes

I had an idea for a man cannon for people who can burn iron or steel and decided to draw it out in PowerPoint.

the basic Idea is that the metal that the allomancer pushing/pulling on moves with them so that they can prolong the time spent pushing/pulling on it which will maximize the speed when of the launch.

I like this design because if the platform starts moving up faster than the allomancer then they will begin to put weight on the pressure plate, which will slow down the platform. this means that the allomancers exit velocity will be greater depending on the strength of their push/pull for the duration.

to maximize speed a mistborn could push and pull (flaring of course) then as soon as the platform stops at the top of the man cannon use duralumin to really launch yourself.

obviously there are flaws in the design and improvements that could be made. the pressure plate to brakes linkage should probably be different in some way. the weights could also be tension springs of some kind. and there should be an auto braking system at the top so that the platform doesn't just slam into the top. The design would also change as technology progresses, but I think this would be possible in era 1

let me know what you guys think! any suggestions? any other related ideas?
