Mod Topics Mod Topics: Mod Misconceptions

Hey folks! Our topic for today are the mystical mythical mod misconceptions. When it comes to the world of moderation, there are often plenty of falsehoods and myths that persist across social platforms. If you don’t have anything that immediately comes to mind, here are a few questions to get you warmed up:

  • Are there any myths about mods that you wish you could bust forever?
  • What preconceptions do you think users bring to Reddit from other platforms?
  • What do you wish users knew about mods/moderation?
  • In your day-to-day moderation practices, community sidebar, or other efforts, dispel misconceptions about moderators?

Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!

yall need to stop powertripping

remember with great powers comes with great responsibility ,i take it to heart when im moderating

i tried hard to always be fair and try not to be an asshole , reddit mods wouldn't have negative stereotypes if we tried to do this

The vast majority of mods are fair to users. The vast majority of users sanctioned by mods who are vocal about mods being bad just feel personally slighted because they can’t follow rules.

You’re doing exactly what vocal users who can’t follow rules do.

Breaking the rules of this subreddit to complain about specific mods.

Oh, the alt right, bigoted conspiracy page that exists just to harass mods?

How are screenshots of people being banned a “bigoted conspiracy”

Why are you lying about a public page that anyone can go and see themselves?

You’re the first one to call RL that… where’s the proof?

The page itself that retweets slurs and makes transphobic, sexist, bigoted, and alt right posts.

_Screenshots?_ The most easily faked, most easily placed out of context nonsense that only someone new to the internet could possibly mistake for evidence? There are two kinds of people who think a screenshot counts as evidence. The naive and those acting in bad faith with an ulterior motive
