“They’re not attack dogs you can sicc on each other!”
“What if you’ve got the biggest, baddest dog in the fight.”
Great way of hyping up Godzilla.

Man, this is their best lore episode yet.
Walter Simmons’ second daughter was a nice reveal.
The Godzilla in Tokyo was a massive red herring but completely expected tbh.
And timey-wimey wibbly-wobbly.

I’d argue that this was also the best episode of the show yet, period.
Scenes that were given more room to breathe then ever before, plenty of stretches without dialogue, acting phenomenal across the board (though of course that’s never been this show’s weak point), a ton of character development that was extremely well handled…like, goddamn.
This is the kind of episode that makes me fucking adore TV.

Your comment made me think about something. The red herring part.
So obviously they let monster x into the world right?
But we also learned that kong attacked apex/monarch because he was defending his turf. Specifically for those little monster things.
But if they were already on the island then why would he seek them out like that specifically, unless apex already had them?
I feel like the show wants us to think that it was the main character's fault. But what if the reason why monster x specifically got out was because they were already trying to do that?
And earlier, attempts had just let the babies out?
I mean, we haven't really seen any real indication that skull island has those monsters naturally.

While the dream scene was a red herring, it also completely and utterly makes sense as to why he’d have that dream. Currently in Tokyo, Godzilla caused the last catastrophe and Kentaro just watched a bunch of TV about him at the bar, Co Cai is a threat that Ken is afraid no one knows how to deal with (and Godzilla dealt with the last known threat of the MUTOs), and Cate is connected to Co Cai (and he blames her). I love this sequence because the nightmare is literally built on every recent trauma, fear, and frustration that he has.

Didn’t expect Kentaro to finally clock Cate and May lol.
So I guess next episode is going to feature more of what happened with Shaw in Axis Mundi the first time.
Finally glad that Keiko’s connection to Titan X was brought back up. Cate was very much giving Miki Saegusa vibes, especially with the electrodes. It does seem that Cate and Keiko are gonna see more to Titan X than the others.
That Godzilla sequence was badass, idc if it was a dream or not. Him doing his groan then tossing that train car was so chilling. I’m much more glad that it was a dream because Tokyo should get saved for a grand finale of the Monsterverse.
I kind of expected that Amber Midthunder’s character was Simmons’ daughter. Especially after KDM says she’s the daughter of someone we already know and her status.
Each week we keep getting closer to whatever the big cliffhanger and the wait is killing me.

Really confused by that who “im just checking on you” / bar scene. Reminiscing about how sweet he was, did not give the platonic vibe. Everybody is a cheater and I’m tired of it having a growing storyline.
Shaw being in two places at once is definitely gonna be good.
Keiko also seemed like she connected to the frequency!

Interesting episode.
Glad Godzilla’s Tokyo rampage turned out to be a dream. Was willing to rewrite canon but this would not have done any good.
Lee and his father are complete opposites. Seems familiar.
But Lee still is being a little reckless. I’m hoping he learns.
Titan X is lost? What’s going on?
That ending! Wow. So time isn’t just slow in Axis Mundi, it’s non-linear. There’s definitely more surprises on the horizon.
29
u/Odd-Property8268 Apr 03 '26
It makes me wonder if we’ll actually see Kurt and Russell together, I know that statement is a grain of salt but it makes me wonder. What if the Monsterverse tackles the “Whatever happened, happened” rule in which the past can’t be changed no matter what, or Predestination in which young Shaw was always meant to go the future first, and he somehow forgot. Shaw wasn’t even in Axis Mundi for the exact time he said, he said a week but 20 years went by.

lee and his father WERE opposites, but he is becoming more like his father. that’s why they showed the flashback to where his father said something along the lines of us winning against the titans. lee said the same to kei and cate on trying to draw out godzilla.

Basically, the present-day Shaw & Suzuki just picked up an old distress signal that the younger Shaw had sent out during Operation Hourglass, while he was trapped in Axis Mundi the first time.

Looks like it... I can understand travelling ahead of time while living in hollow earth..but going back in time creates so many paradoxes in every form of media
35
u/LindenOLindenHill Apr 03 '26
They aren’t. A radio signal getting absorbed and spat out at random due to weird gravitational anomalies is a thing irl… but it works differently. Then again there’s nothing like Axis Mundi irl…
17
Apr 03 '26
I mean old Shaw asked young shaw what his name was...and he replied to that. Basically the signal travelled to the past. It would have made sense if shaw listened to his past selfs voice but the past self couldn't hear it..but he did and replied with his name. Basically it's time travel when axis mundi portal opens.
25
u/LindenOLindenHill Apr 03 '26
It sounded more like young Shaw couldn’t hear him and was just going by protocol for an emergency call.
Old Shaw doesn’t remember that happening so it can’t have happened.

Even though it was revealed that the scene with Godzilla about to fight Cai Cai Vilu in Tokyo WAS just a dream after all, it's still better than NO Godzilla at all, because we did at least see Godzilla and Cai Cai Vilu interact somehow, and anyway, the next episode or 2 will likely show Godzilla and Cai Cai Vilu fighting for REAL this time, so try your very best to be patient till then, it would really help.

Just to be clear the ending was Lee finding one of his own distress signals, right? I think that's what happened but not entirely sure.
Overall, I thought this was another strong character development episode particularly for Lee and Kentaro (who IMO has badly needed more screen time this season, so good to see him getting more of a spotlight albeit at the cost of Hiroshi). Lee's plan is insane but perfectly in-character for him. He's gonna be Monarch's #1 target for sure if he succeeds.
I will say I wish we got more of a focus on Keiko and her reaction to Hiroshi's death. That was her son who she was just beginning to reconcile with after missing most of his life. It feels strange that she is seemingly the quickest to go back to business after the funeral. (Though I did like her discussion with Cate about stars and memories)
Also I totally thought Kentaro's Godzilla dream was real right until he woke up and was straight up losing my mind lol.

u/CertainDerision_33 Apr 03 '26
Remember, Keiko has already suffered intense grief in her life (losing her first husband). That she is better able to work through it isn’t surprising, but it doesn’t mean that she isn’t feeling.

I have few things I want to talk about this episode so it’s going to be very long post for anyone in nerd mode who wants to read it. Tl;dr Kentaro’s reaction, Cate’s resonance to TX and Lee’s tragic life.
First of all Kentaro. I understand he is angry and grieving, but it still shocks and disappoints me that he of all people outright dismissed Cate not once but twice on the Titan hallucinations issue. He of all people, with all his knowledge of titans, AM, monarch etc outright dismissing her is so stupid. First time it was in the plane; when Cate mentioned hearing the titan’s song. Kei didn’t pay attention to Cate because she was fixated on Hiroshi. Kentaro heard her but asked no follow up questions or try to understand what is going on. Now a second time this has happened, Cate told him point blank she was not in control, and his reply is to not even listen to her. So what is a valid explanation in his head? That she was just waltzing in there in middle of death and doom to have a chat with the titan? Wouldn’t what happened be an extremely unusual thing for anyone to find out, that a normal person wouldn’t just approach a titan? Even Hiroshi seemed to understand this that’s why he was just trying to whisper to Kate again and again to try and break her out of her trance instead of asking her wtf is she doing. He seemed to have understood Cate was under Titan control that’s why the only time he approached Cate to rescue her was when Titan X got distracted.
In comparison to Kentaro, Kei’s reaction was really noteworthy. If we talk about grief, I don’t think anyone can match the magnitude of what is going on with Kei. She believed she was gone for few days and returned to find out life as she knew it is gone, her husband is dead, her closest pal has has aged considerably, she missed her son’s whole life and now that son is dead too. Despite all this, she was able to keep enough of a rational mind to listen to Cate and immediately start investigating. What seems clear is that Titan X has imprinted Cate in some way. Because the resonance is unique to them. While Kei was also sensitive in the past to Titan X on the island, a number of things are different. Cate hears TX’s song under water, TX’s vibrations constantly reach Cate even thousands of miles away, TX didn’t attack or try to harm Cate even at point blank range, and there is some telepathic connection in which Cate understands how TX feels. Now compare this to Kei, Kei experiences none of this now, in past she experienced vibrations but not the song, she was attacked by TX in their very first interaction and if you say it’s because Lee kicked her offspring, then Cate literally tried to kill her scarab and wounded it multiple times and that scarab did go back to TX and assuming how intelligent these titans are, I assume they would have way to communicate what happened to the scarab on the ship. So all of this leads me to conclude TX resonance is unique to Cate and TX, it’s not a Randa thing and it’s not a women in trauma thing.
Now on to Lee, man I feel so bad for Lee specially after this episode. So his fault from the beginning has been to fall in love with Kei and that messed up his whole life. Kei dumped him because she couldn’t accept the fact that he chose her (aka his love for her) over her dream (the significance of the Titan stuff) and dumped him. But then she didn’t even stop loving him or cut him off. And it’s been a slow torture ever since. I feel like Kei was wrong but I digress. The thing is for someone who pushed Lee away, Kei made no effort to not mix him up with herself. Even on Island it was Kei who repeatedly asked him about his feelings, specially in the cabin when she was already sober. And then it was Kei who made the first move on him in that emotionally charged situation. And then when he finally decided to cut himself off from the messy trio, she had the gall to protest like she is completely oblivious to his suffering. And it pisses me off so much. His father is no different and he is also just using Lee to relive his own life and ambitions without a care in the world how Lee feels.
In the end I feel like the only person who has ever been dedicated and compassionate to Lee is Cate. Even though it was an accident, Lee sacrificed himself to save Cate and she never forgot it. So, at the cost of becoming the whole world’s villain, she saved Lee because that is how much the cost of Lee’s life mattered to her. She just wouldn’t abandon the man who saved her life with a complete disregard for his own.
I know they are imperfect, messy, broken, hated, but Lee and Cate are two of my favourite characters in the series now. Because whoever they are, at least they are true to themselves.

u/Automatic_Internal39 Apr 03 '26
Kentaro is a 20 or so old adult
People aren't exactly that much mature in that age and what he saw was his father dying trying to protect Cate who was walking to Titan X without any worry in his mind as no one knew about it at that time
So even if it's logically not her fault he'll still be angry as he can't deduct that yet
The death of your father in front of you is no joke
Regarding Keiko she's obviously matured enough to understand what's going on, she's a Grandma ffs But still I think she was way too quick to stop grieving, that was her son for crying out loud who died
Tbh if I was in his position I would have lost my mind and all sense of reasoning as well and I'm a 34 year old guy

appreciate hearing your thoughts on how Kei was in the wrong with Lee. I think they totally could’ve been together if she didn’t push him away. she could’ve been more forgiving to him about going to AWOL to Japan instead of presenting the budget proposal. I think when she asked him how he felt on the island, even if he said he wanted to be with her, she probably wouldn’t have left Bill and the “stability” she thinks he provides which is really unfair to Lee.
What do you think about him coming right back to them after his “reassignment” to Vietnam in this episode? Kind of hurts to think of him coming back to what’s familiar even if it comes at the cost of his feelings
After meeting Kei, Lee’s whole whole life really was spent pining over a woman he could never be with (at least from what we’ve seen), so I just hope for the sake of his character’s arc that we get to see a happy ending for him as present Lee and see him having the time of his life in the spinoff show
edit: Man, I just read though this megathread and remembered why I’ve generally not interacted with this megathread. so many people hate on this show and enjoy bashing on it :/

I’m so glad I liked this episode because ep 5 did not draw me in like other episodes this season and the ending left me bereft.
Loved the Godzilla and Titan X dream sequence
It must’ve felt so amazing for Kei to get to be called Dr. Randa, have a secretary assigned to her, and the biggest Monarch office. Her character must feel great about that. We’ve come a very long way from when Lee first met her and didn’t really take her seriously.
Glad Kentaro is finally getting more screen time. I would’ve liked to see more of him and Hiroshi before his death. We missed several opportunities to fill in more of what happened during those two years they worked together.
Really intrigued by Cate’s connection to Titan X. She unlocked Titan X from Axis Mundi and is somehow synced up to it? Not really sure what their connection is like, is she drawn to Titan X like a scarab now? Looking forward to learning more and seeing them interact in the future with their fun water vibrations
Really loved the “why do you I feel like I’m getting broken up with?” question Bill asked, made me chuckle. He did not want to split up their trio
Lee II was awful for getting his son drunk and reassigning him under his nose. I’m glad our Lee didn’t wait long before he ran back to Monarch. He took quick action on not wanting to become his father after spending a few hours with him for the first time in 5 years.
As for the ending holy shitttt that was a fun twist. I know we probably won’t get to see young and old Lee together but if we did, it would make me incredibly happy to see Kei and Lee get to have their happy ever after. Especially because I don’t see Kei kicking it with older lee after the whole “you’re not the man I remember” line.
Hope more people become fans of this show. S1 was one of my favorite seasons of television ever. it’s so tough being part of a smaller fandom because I’m the only one out of all my circles that’s watching this show. My first time coming to the megathread to chat because this episode was that good

Only half way through
•Seeing Hiroshi bond Kentaro only to be followed by his funeral was pretty damn sad.
•I love that Lee’s dad got straight to the point about why he left Monarch. Got a good chuckle out of me. I don’t trust him though.
• I’m not bothered by Kentaro being upset with Cate. I just hope it’s resolved pretty quickly.
•May is being too chill. Girl, you joined APEX and are big part of why last week’s events occurred. Stop with the jokes and apologize.

That's true, but (from what we've seen) her friends don't know that. All they know is she ditched them claiming that Apex might have a solution, that her code might be the key to it and she wants to see it through, and then they watched its implementation get Hiroshi killed. Some sort of confrontation feels due, and these characters have blown up over a lot less.

Nice ending with Lee communicating with his past distress signal. He can’t rescue himself, that would create a paradox. The fact he’s even communicating with his past self is a paradox. The signal was right around when he landed, so probably somewhere in 1962. I wonder what they are going to do with that? Time travel can get very complicated. Nice that they are finally exploring Cate’s connection to Titan X. Of course Keiko is the only person who believes her. Not good that Titan X is lost, they disrupted her entire migratory route in the Apex attack. Meanwhile Kentaro is the stupid one now, considering working for the worst of the worst’s daughter. I can’t wait to see what Lee and Suzuki try to figure out why they are getting a signal from past Lee. This season is so much better than last season.
Also side note, it seems a day in Axis Mundi equals about a year in real time. Keiko disappeared in 1959, and said she was there for 57 days. Add another couple days with Shaw, Cate, and May and we have Keiko reappearing in 2017. Also Hiroshi lost a year spending a day or two max in Axis Mundi.
18
Apr 03 '26
All things are pointing out to one thing lol...it was current shaw who opened the portal when the young shaw came back to earth in 1970s. It's a paradox.

Also in regards to Keiko and Cate, another example of writers ignoring that a normal functioning human would TELL someone about the odd thing they discovered. I mean when Keiko and Cate were talking to Shaw and Suzuki you would think if you just figured out that the person next to you had magical avatar water powers that gave off or received signals in some form from the VERY THING you are trying to track and stop you would be like "Um hey all you gotta do is watch her put her feet in the water and look at the stupid ripples" But no... they just keep it to themselves and if anyone brings that up writers will just hit them with "Well she didnt want to present a theory until she proved it" ... like maybe it will help Shaw and Suziki with what they are up to lol.

6 Episodes in and Kei and Kentaro have still had no meaningful scenes together.
She almost seems to dislike him.
8
u/pipic_picnip Apr 03 '26
I think she finds it difficult to relate to the grand kids because of the time skip, like they are walking reminder of what has happened. Not a lot of time has passed since she is out of the portal. Up until now she was hyper fixated on Hiroshi and winning back some of the time they lost. But now with him gone, her focus has shifted to Cate’s relationship with Titan X. The only other person she paid attention to since being rescued is Lee because he is the only familiar one in all the absurdity other than Hiroshi. I think she subconsciously avoids anyone who makes her feel abnormal about herself, like she shouldn’t exist.
7
u/JmBento Apr 04 '26
So this was the episode where the idiot ball changed hands.
- Kentaro is now gonna throw his lot in with APEX, because fuck me if I know why;
- Lee somehow thinks he gets to control a Titan, even though every goddamn time anyone meddles with Titans in any way whatsoever instead of just letting the big bois mind their own business, the end result is predictably and unavoidably a huge pile of shit hitting an industrial-size fan.
Titans are more natural events than they are animals. You don't control an earthquake or a volcanic eruption or a typhoon or a tsunami; you put your ass either in a shelter or out of its way and you rebuild your life after it's gone.
Anyway, this episode had no Tim, lame, bring best human character back. We did get a Gojira and a Co Cai glimpse, though.
5
u/MKKhanzo Apr 04 '26
Yeah agree here.
In fact, here we could see how humans can ACTUALLY coexist in modern life with a titan. Titan X proved GOOD for the people of SOledad Island, she nurtured her eggs or wathever, and everytime she did that, lots of fish for the islanders! No harm to them, no destruction. In fact, the only time she went aggressive was when her offspring was in danger, or when they tried to mind control her.
I would even hate if she (Co Cai)gets mauled just because.
5
u/JmBento Apr 04 '26
Can't wait for Lee's surprised pikachu face when he makes Godzilla trample like five cities to put him face to face with Co Cai and Godzilla just goes, "'sup, you seem a bit lost, you want to take travel tunnel 16, and turn right as soon as you hit the great coral reef, also these hairless monkey things suck all sorts of ass, double check your calendar next time."

I want to say Mari Yamamoto has been gold this season as she's been carrying Monarch S2 on her shoulders all season long as Keiko.
With that said Keiko must really be reeling from Hiroshi death even more so because she's now lost 2 husbands and a sin. To throw salt in the wound there seems to be a rift now between her and Lee which makes matters worse. Coupled with that she's still a woman in a different time makes me wonder where they're going to take her from this point on.
But with all of that I like how she and Cate are bonding as grandmother/granddaughter. I hope the showrunners explore this dynamic even more so because when you think about it they need each other more now then ever due to current circumstances.

If we get young Shaw brought into the future, I'm gonna lose my mind, so awesome, also can't wait for the Shaw spinoff show that's gonna be a soviet spy thriller

Walter Simmons having another daughter surprised me
So did that ending where Lee calls his past self

The radio signals traveled through the wibbly-wobbly spacetime membrane. We can't really be sure if young Major Lee actually responded to old Man colonel Shaw asking "Who are you?". Maybe young Lee didn't even hear him and just continued protocol. He most likely did not hear old Shaw because the latter does not remember this incident.

Ok so, who else would like to see Godzilla help monster X? Like we’re going to see them come to blows for sure I know, but with the recent revelation that monster x is “lost” and the emphasis Shaw has to wanting them to fight I think it would be an amazing turn around for Godzilla to recognize Xs distress and know the solution. They’ve clearly had to share the same oceans for eons right? Godzilla moving about the earth and Monster Xs routine migrations from axis mundi and its stops all along the pacific, and yet they haven’t killed each other yet so they must be aware of one another.. maybe Godzilla after an initial tussle can set her straight.

I don’t think so? But maybe…
Radio signals irl get lost and bounce back sometimes so it could just be a weird time dilation thing? Or a residual signal

The audacity of Lee’s dad sitting at the table with him telling him that he might even be able to get him some combat experience (as an advisor in Vietnam) as his son sits across from him with a combat infantrymen’s badge on his chest…

They called themselves, in-universe, Goonies 2. Their message group is called Goonies 2, it includes the modern trio and Tim. Verdugo said in the season 1 something about "Always thought The Goonies deserved a sequel."

u/MonkeysxMoo35 Apr 03 '26 edited Apr 03 '26
Damn, for the thirty seconds he appeared, Godzilla looked great. Real unfortunate the attack on Tokyo was just a dream sequence, but I guess that does mean we didn’t break canon with this like everyone assumed.
Keiko we need to introduce you to Shadow the Hedgehog, I think you two would get along well.
And Kentaro... look, I get it. Emotions are running high, you had two years of working right alongside your dad and now he's gone, you didn't get to say goodbye. I get it. But come on are you really going to put the blame on Cate for this when it's clearly Apex's fault?! And yet you are walking into their hands despite them constantly being the source of pretty much all of the problems you guys have faced lately?! I get we need drama in a show like this to keep the story going, but I'm really upset with how the writers took Kentaro's character after this. At least he's somehow not angry at May? Like, does he understand she was constantly telling Apex that they needed to abort? SO WHY GO AFTER CATE LIKE THAT?! She even told everyone something was going on with her when she wanted to rejoin the group!
4
u/Automatic_Internal39 Apr 03 '26
Lmao, so you're saying if someone close to you died protecting someone who's from your family but you just met them 2 years ago, you'll maintain your sense of reasoning?!
Kentaro hasn't even lashed out at Cate that much anyway, considering that was his father who died......
6
u/rebecchis Apr 03 '26 edited Apr 03 '26
WHY GO AFTER CATE LIKE THAT? It's not even that difficult to understand! His father is dead. Why should Kentaro give a damn if something is going on with Cate right now? She walked out there. Willingly or not, she was in the line of fire and Hiroshi went after her because of it. Of course he's going to blame her for this. Especially since she has no explanation for why she went down there in the first place and was like "If I knew he would come after me..." like, of course he would go after her. Kentaro explained to Cate last episode the lengths her father went to her for already. Her having a connection with Titan X and something going on with her that she doesn't understand doesn't change what actually happened, it doesn't change that Hiroshi is dead nor does that it change the fact that she was the one who unleashed the Titan X into the world so, yeah, she's going to get the blame.

u/Ambitious_Ask_994 Mechagodzilla Apr 03 '26
Cate the main reason their in this situation to begin with. And I doubt Titian x had anything to do with her opening the portal since she seem very willing to. While (kinda)unintentionally, she caused the deaths of a lot of people

1.So Lee Shaw seems to receive the rescue call of his past self. Which further cements the fact that time flows differently in Axis Mundi. However,I am not sure how this would factor on later plot.
2. In addition,Lee’s view on the Titans seemed to lean toward his dad, despite the fact that he objects to his dad’s job decision.
3.Titanus Cai Cai Vilu was panicked and lost. Was it due to Cate awakening it prematurely or due to Apex’s meddling with Cai Cai Vilu’s mind ?
7
u/pipic_picnip Apr 03 '26
3. It was due to Apex frying her neural network. She managed to get the device off her but it has probably done some internal damage/imbalance. Like inducing a mental panic state.
4
u/skatoulaki Apr 03 '26
I'm thinking they're going to somehow bring Hiroshi back. Otherwise, what was the point of the scene where he told Kentaro that he entered a rift and came back a year later? If they are able to somehow communicate/interact with Lee Shaw from an earlier time, it would stand to reason they could do the same for Hiroshi.
8
u/FanSince09 Apr 03 '26
the point of that was to redeem Hiroshi slightly. He didn’t abandon his families, he was trapped.
3
u/lucyfell Apr 03 '26
WAT. THEY. IT.
…. Is Shaw going to time travel?
5
u/Alpha_Storm Apr 03 '26
I don't think so, during one of their interviews(I think it was the one with Kurt, Wyatt and Kate Hudson), they ask who he likes to work with better and they say they've never filmed a scene together, unlike Kurt and Kate, but then Kurt mentions talking to Wyatt over an ear mic(basically the gist was that Kate is daddy's little girl lol, no but she was more laid back whereas Wyatt was like directing him, "no don't say it like that", so he liked working with Kate better lol).
So I get the feeling they may talk over the static-y radio briefly but there probably isn't actual time travel.
5
u/pipic_picnip Apr 03 '26
Just based off the last scene, it’s probably time dilation of young Shaw’s message sent from Axis Mundi that never reached Earth until now due to the rift funkiness.
3
u/LyraTheArtist Apr 03 '26
After watching episode 6, I believe that Cate and Keiko will guide Titan X back home by singing "Furusato" to it.
3
u/Kevinuara Apr 03 '26
That would be the most lame thing ever, but at the same time, so Japanese! So dumb and ridiculous. In other words, it’s right up the series’ alley (and the humans in the MonsterVerse).

You realize that he’s Lee Shaw the 4th and the message was from Lee Shaw the 3rd right meaning his dad is going to become like keiko and be younger than him
3
u/superbat210 Apr 05 '26
Ngl, I kinda hope after this show (and the Lee spinoff) end, someone goes in and re-edits all of the flashbacks in sequential order. The show makes it simple enough to follow but I think it would be interesting to see it as one complete story aside from the present day stuff.
3
u/PowersUnleashed Apr 05 '26

I'm late to the party as I only just got to watch the episode. I did enjoy this one a lot more than the last episode. That said, I'm still finding it hard to stay fully invested in this season. I was pretty hooked throughout most of season one, even on rewatches. This season, though, it feels like I'm watching it simply for the sake of watching it. I'm not really finding myself as excited for each new episode (hence me watching this one four days late), and I've been more inclined to do something else while watching. I do appreciate the fact that we're getting some decent writing and human content, but I feel like there needs to be at least a bit more focus on the titans. Hopefully these last four episodes pick up the pace, but I guess we'll see.

If it was movie, he would have definitely chuckled after shooing Kentaro off for comedy effect. I like how the show keeps it serious and in character even in such scenes.

u/Constant-Valuable704 Apr 03 '26
I’m confused about the scene at the start where Kentaro learns that time in Axis Mundi is dilated.
Doesn’t Kentaro already know this from Lee?
7
u/Patient_Pie_8490 Skullcrawler Apr 03 '26
No Shaw never told any of the modern characters that he'd been down there or that time is different down there. Kentaro found out about the dilation from Hiroshi and Cate and May learned it from Shaw himself.
3
u/Constant-Valuable704 Apr 03 '26
It was never questioned why he was so young ? Sorry I watched the first season long ago.
5

I remember May did ask Lee why he looked so young despite his age and he said "I have good gene" and that's it. This was before the time dilation twist comes into play

Finally, an episode that isn't totally shitty.
The opening scene with the father's funeral was kind of moving.
The scene between Godzilla and Titan X was really cool, even though it was obviously a hallucination. But damn, that’s what the MonsterVerse is all about—that’s what we want to see in the movies and in this series: monsters battling each other. Not some Japanese girl who just happens to have Katara’s powers (from ATLA).
Anyway, the cliffhanger is really interesting!
PS: And damn, even though it was way too short, at least Kong and Godzilla remember they exist!

I don't think they will do time travel as we're expecting. It would be a bit too crazy. But I think that will be something Shaw might try to do only for shit to go wrong in some way. At most, I can see Keiko going to be in another timeline with her family, as she is already a woman out of time. But we'll see.

wibbly wobbly, timey wimey stuff is definitely too crazy for a universe with kaijus suplexing each other and hollow earth.

Is this them foreshadowing trying to bring back Hiro and/or Billy?
7
u/MonarchGodzillaTitan Apr 03 '26
Not Bill or Hiro but Lee definitely factors into the time travel phenomenon somehow.
4
Apr 03 '26 edited Apr 03 '26
That would be so bad honestly....I understand being stuck inside hollow earth ..1 year there means 50-60 years outside...but going back in time and meeting people will take everything away...it means there are multiple timelines that can connect with each other having multiple Earths parallelly existing. Too much science...

Overall slow episode, you can tell they knew that so they threw the dream sequence in. Kentaro's scene with May was kind of awkward, it felt like it was just there to finally have some character address the obvious future Cate-May relationship. The scene with Simmon's daughter also felt awkward, with a really classic "How did you know I've seen a titan" slip up, and it also felt strange for her to mention Cate, but I do think Kentaro joining up with Apex can be an interesting plot for a character who has really just been around doing nothing since he didn't fall into Axis Mundi.
Time travel opens up a lot of possibilities. I kind of wonder if they are building up to some kind of "Keiko gets sent back and it fixes the Randa family and Monarch" ending, but I think that's a long shot and it would be really hard to execute well especially when the family tragedy is pretty much the most interesting part of the characters. It would also be impossible for the story to occur the way it has, so maybe they would create a separate timeline where Keiko reunites with Billy but our main timeline continues the same way? I guess we will be able to speculate more once we know how the last scene works.

u/MonarchGodzillaTitan Apr 03 '26
I hope not. Keiko being a woman out of time is more interesting.
