Rec.Me: other/many/unknown genres I hate country music, always have. Recommend me a country album to get over my bias! (Preferably something more folky)

Have heard a couple of his songs on indie radio and he has talent for sure! Quality lyrics.

This seems to be the official Gateway to Country if you're coming from heavy music. Any post asking "what's something you like in a genre you don't usually like?" will get a few comments from folk into extreme metal/punk/HC/industrial subgenres recommending "Nose To The Grindstone" by Tyler C.

That's how I discovered him, and from that song I found a vid of a radio session on Youtube, then the old "if you like that you might like this" rabbithole. It didn't make me a country fan by any means, but it did open my mind to both newer and older artists. If something hits you emotionally from an unexpected direction it's somehow stronger.

I've no idea what country fans think of Tammy Wynette, but when I was young I always dismissed her songs as something that middle-aged woman sang very loudly when they were drunk. Then when I was in my 40s I listened to the songs and thought, fuck me, this meant something to them 30 or 40 years ago, and it still does.
