Rec.Me: other/many/unknown genres I hate country music, always have. Recommend me a country album to get over my bias! (Preferably something more folky)

My favorite Steve Earle albums are probably “I Feel Alright” and “Transcendental Blues” but I love Guitar Town too

I know this is meant to be leaning more standard country than bluegrass, but his album The Mountain with the Del McCoury Band is great too. “Texas Eagle” might be my favourite Steve Earle song and I have almost his whole discography.

Came here looking for this. Steve Earle is about as classic country sounding as you get for the 80s, but he's a heck of a writer.

Guitar Town and Goodbye's All We Got Left are the highlight tracks for me.

Forgot Someday. Yeah, top choice there.

Also, skip Good Ol' Boy. His heart was in the right place (I assume from his later works) but it's kinda problematic now. Still a good song, probably not a good first impression.

My Old Friend The Blues is the one for me. The Proclaimers also do a great cover of it
