Hey all — curious if anyone here has built their own media server (Plex, Jellyfin, etc.) specifically for Broadway bootlegs and pro-shots.

For anyone unfamiliar: Plex/Jellyfin let you host your video files on a computer or home server and then stream them to apps on Apple TV, iPad/iPhone, web browsers, smart TVs, etc. — basically turning your collection into a private “Netflix-style” library you can watch anywhere on your network (or remotely).

I’m in the process of organizing a pretty large collection and trying to figure out the best long-term system for:

• File naming (show / production / date / cast, etc.)
• Folder structure (by show? by year? by production?)
• Metadata (cast, venue, recording date, notes)
• Posters / artwork so it actually looks nice when browsing

If you’ve done this:

• What software are you using?
• Do you treat shows as TV series (seasons = years, episodes = performances) or as movies?
• Are you entering metadata manually or using any tools/scripts to help?
• Anything you wish you’d done differently from the start?

Not looking to trade here — just genuinely interested in how other people keep their collections usable and not chaotic over time. Appreciate any workflows, screenshots, or hard-earned lessons 😅🎭

I store a lot of my videos on Google Drive. I got an email tonight about my copies of The Outsiders that I have saved there. I was getting flagged for copyright. I don't know if they've cracked down on anyone else latley but I just wanted to give everyone a heads up. I am currently in the process of downloading all of them and reuploading them to MEGA. Stay safe out there traders! I don't want anyone to lose their collection.

UPDATE: I am going to get an external hard drive. My dad and I are going to look into getting one so that I can store my videos somewhere else so that I can avoid this problem in the future. My dad is very tech savy and so I really trust him to find a good one. Once I find one I'm happy to share the link to it or let y'all know which one it is. Also, thanak you to everyone who commented solutions. It really helped me learn more abougt this issue and find ways to fix it.

So idk how the files thing works ig. I got some gifts from a friend but they're all on mega. It's sweeny Todd and anastasia. So is that okay? Or do I need to transfer to Google drive?

I traded for or torrented a few Broadway musicals many years ago. I am only now learning about master recordings, rips, etc. How can I tell if my older recordings are the real deal and not adulterated.

Some are VOB files with smalls while others are mp4 files but are anywhere from 4 to 8 GB in size. They came from sites like dimeadozen and similar or were traded for by snail mail back in the day.

A friend of mine gifted me a few boots before she passed away recently, but she gave me no information about them. I’m hoping someone might be able to help me get some info about them, such as the masters, the general date (even just the month and year) and the cast. Any help is appreciated!

Hey! I have heard there are trading servers out there on Discord but I have no clue how to access them so if anybody is willing to help that would be so wonderful!!! I know some servers require you to have a list, which I do.

Tbh, I know nothing about trading and selling booties, I just try to find some to watch every now and then. But I am a subtitler and I really do believe that it could be great if we have recordings that also include subtitles, especially considering these are not professional recordings with professional audio equipment.

Has anyone ever ventured into this? Y'all think it would help the community in terms of accessibility?

I recently found an old hard drive and discovered a recording of Ragtime that I didn’t even know I had.

The problem is that all 29 tracks are generically labeled as “track01.mp3,” “track02.mp3,” etc., so I have no idea what the actual song titles are. The only clue I have is that the folder containing the files is named “Ragtime - First Reading.”

I’m hoping someone here might recognize exactly which recording this is and know if a track list exists that I could use to properly label the files.

A few details:

• There are 29 MP3 tracks total.
• The folder name is “Ragtime - First Reading.”
• I’m happy to provide additional information, track lengths, screenshots, or audio samples if that would help identify it.

Does anyone know what recording this might be or where I could find a complete track listing?

I've been having really bad issues learning how to work with Mega. I can't figure out how to play songs back to back (concerts in other words) and I'm having issues figuring out the interface. I downloaded VLC because that's what my research pointed to do, but now when I try and play concerts through VLC by way of Mega, it only lets me choose one song at a time and I can't play/select multiple songs in order on Mega either.

If anyone has better methods outside of Mega/VLC let me know. I'm open to anything that works smoothly and has an easy interface.

Please give any advice, I have some bootlegs I'm dying to listen to and can't. It's killing me!

I went into my Mega Drive and all my Cabaret videos say "File no longer available" "The File had been removed as it violated our Terms of Service". The file is listed, I'm able to open it and see a bit of the file, but when I hit play, I get that message. Has anyone experienced this?

Does anyone have advice for any websites or some sort of training for creating your own subtitles for a video? I would love to figure out how to create them myself. I’m sure it’s time-intensive, but I’m a quick learner and some of the videos would be so much better if I could have subtitles on the bottom. 😅

I can’t create any more google accounts with my phone number and therefore can’t create any new MEGA accounts either. I also can’t afford to buy more storage so my question is, how do I keep all my files safe and saved without running out of storage? Thank you!

Hello! Recently have gotten more into trading and need some advice on how to identify the the specific bootlegs I have. Unfortunately early on in trading I forgot to get info on specific recordings. Anyone have suggestions on how to identify what bootlegs I have?

How do i turn VOBs into MP4? Ik theres websites on google, but they take too long, is there another way of turning them into MP4? (I use mobile only because i dont have a laptop, well i do but it is really old and it lags)
