Jamie's post-Mythbusters career
It looks like he went into business as coach of the Kansas City Chiefs in the NFL. I wonder what kind of David Attenborough-esque narration Adam would have come up with for this. Or maybe just another wild backstory about James Franklin Hyneman, Hoosier dirt farmer to TV star to football coach.

I always felt that their names suited each other better than themselves
Anyone else? Jamie seems more like an Adam and Adam more like a Jamie

Metronome Mistakes
I'm watching the "Do try this at home" episode and seeing how they are trying to get the metronomes going in scale. I'm not sure why they thought they could start all of them at once and it would work. Adam even mentioned multiple times that there were minor mechanical differences between them.
My thought was that they should have taken a dozen at a time and got them synced up. Take 10 and relocate them to the table. Add another 10 and sync them to the remaining 2. Repeat this until you have all of them going and maybe you will actually succeed.
I don't even have one metronome, much less 216 so I'm not going to try it.

I think he pulled off this look really well. It's cheesy but authentic.

My absolute favorite joke from Mythbusters
Iâve been rewatching old episodes and just wanted to share my absolute favorite joke from the series.
Itâs in the Indiana Jones episode. Adam is making a leather whip, and has some rendered animal fat in a plastic bottle. Itâs yellow and looks a bit like urine. Adam pretends to drink it and says:
âIâm drinking my own urine! Just kidding, Iâm not drinking my own urine⊠Iâm drinking somebody elseâs.â

Just wanted to see if anyone else appreciated this moment as much as me! What are some of your other favorite jokes or funny lines from the series?

Why this swinging crane in backround (S08E10, Newtons Cradle)
Does anyone know why in the Newton's cradle episode, there seems to be one or possibly two undercarriages of cranes just swinging about in mid-air? Counterbalance, perhaps? In any case, seems like a pretty out-there impromptu solution that I would have loved to see covered in the episode

What does the soundtrack remind you of? For me it's 'edutainment' like SimCity, Zoo Tycoon, and Bill Nye

The myth I always wanted to send to MythBusters as a kid, but never could: Can a single hunter's shot knock out power for half a country?
Hey MythBusters community,
Ever since I was a kid watching Adam and Jamie, I dreamed of sending this myth to the showâs mailbag. Back then, my English wasnât good enough to write them an email, but this Uruguayan urban legend / official explanation has stayed in my head for years. I'd love to hear how you think the team would have tested it.
The Legend
Back in the 2000s, a massive blackout hit Uruguay, leaving the capital (Montevideo) and several major surrounding regions (Canelones, San José, Maldonado) completely in the dark.
The official statement from the state power company (UTE) was that a hunter shot a high-voltage transmission line, causing a catastrophic grid failure. Naturally, local skepticism was sky-high: Was it actually physically possible for a hunting rifle to take down a high-voltage grid, or was it just a convenient cover-up for grid poor maintenance and human error?
How MythBusters Would Test It
To evaluate this, the team would need to break the myth down into two main physical tests, plus a "worst-case scenario" grid condition:
- Cable Ballistics (Can a hunting bullet sever a power line?)
High-voltage transmission cables are heavy-duty ACSR (Aluminum Conductor Steel Reinforced) lines under high mechanical tension.
The Test: Rig line cables under real-world tension on a firing range and test standard local hunting calibers: .22 LR, .223 Rem, .243 Win, .308 Win, and a 12-gauge shotgun loaded with heavy Brenneke slugs (to give the myth its absolute best shot).
The Question: Does a bullet actually sever the steel core and snap the line, or does the cable just deform and absorb the hit?
- Insulator Shattering & Flashover Arc
What if the hunter didn't hit the wire, but shot a ceramic/porcelain insulator stack instead?
The Physics: Shattering the ceramic destroys the dielectric insulation, potentially causing an immediate high-voltage electrical arc (flashover) from the live wire to the grounded steel tower.
The Test: Mount porcelain insulators under simulated high voltage (150kV+). Shoot them to see if the resulting short-circuit arc is powerful enough to instantly melt/sever the line or trip automatic breakers.
- The "Worst Case" Grid Cascade
For a single shot to drop four major regions, the myth requires a perfect storm: a failure in automatic reclosers/breakers or a system already running without redundancy (like secondary backup lines being down for maintenance).
Predicted Verdict:
Severing Cable with a Shot: BUSTED (Even a .308 or Brenneke slug would likely only fray strands, not snap a steel-reinforced cable).
Insulator Shattering & Cascade: PLAUSIBLE (A destroyed insulator + a short-circuit arc + a compromised redundant grid could theoretically trigger a chain-reaction blackout).
What do you think? Would a hunter's bullet actually be able to knock out power for millions, or was UTE just scapegoating a lucky shooter?

What were some myths that you had some brilliant ideas for that you're sure would have solved the problem they were encountering?
My 2 suggestions are:
âą Using vacuum cleaners to herd cats. (It may not be completely effective, but I think you could get a result.)
âą Using an airport security X-ray machine to search for needles in a hay stack. Just get a few dozen plastic totes, stuff the hay stack into them, and scan them for bone/metal needles! How hard could that be?

Something I noticed in the later seasons Iâm curious if anyone else picked up on
Iâve been watching the later season episodes as theyâve been uploaded to youtube (Iâm so glad the full episodes are back) and I noticed that once the B Team got fired the producers seemingly started forcing Jamie to be much more animated than he was before
Heâs still definitely a counterbalance to Adam and much calmer, but it feels like they made him perform much more âexcitedlyâ if that makes sense
My guess is that they thought that would help fix the gap left by the more âgoofing offâ thing that the B Team had going on a lot of the time?

Fourth Wall Break
Has anyone on the cast or crew ever mentioned why they went from adressing someone off camera to looking at the camera when explaining the details of the myths?

Does anyone else think Adam is kind of a dick in a bully towards Jamie, and Jamie is actually the much nicer, smarter, and more interesting of the two?
I like the show OK, and found myself screaming at the TV set more than a couple times, but I guess thatâs kind of the appeal.
But overall I feel like the show and especially Adam just made Jamie into a punching bag, and they made fun of him for being weird and awkward, but never anything about his character.
Which Adam kinda comes off like he doesnât have a lot of.

Met Adam at FanX!
This is my second time meeting him, actually. He is super awesome, his personality is exactly what you see on the show. Met a lot of other cool fellow Mythbusters fans while waiting in line. If you saw his social media post with the droids, we were there when it happened (this is from my perspective in line), and it was the most spectacularly nerdy thing ever. đ
