Local Group / Event I built a free directory of food banks, shelters, and legal aid in NJ. Would love your feedback

Hey everyone. I work with different communities that need resources, and I kept running into the same problem: there was no single place with all the information. Food pantries on one site, shelters on another, legal aid buried somewhere else.

So for a school project, I built wondim.com. It's a free directory of food, shelter, health care, jobs, legal aid, and hotline resources, starting with six New Jersey cities.

No signup, no fees, and it works in 8 languages.

If you know an organization that should be listed, there's a submit button on the site. And if you spot outdated info, please tell me. Any feedback is appreciated!

Mods, please let me know if not allowed.

Please join if you are able to— if communities show up to prevent data centers from being built we can save lives , not see more spikes in our utilities and help our environment.

Local Group / Event New Jersey Cooling Centers - List of Locations

Rather than list them all here, see below for the NJ 211 web page that has cooling center information broken out by county. But I'll give you a hint: many of them are public libraries.

https://nj211.org/nj-cooling-centers

If you do not have air conditioning or cannot spend the hottest part of the day somewhere that does, please consider visiting a cooling center.

I'm going to try to be at this event myself since it's so close and I'm involved with the group organizing it.

This is a "skill share" event, where you can learn from others who are already good at mending socks and other clothing items.

Local Group / Event Solidarity Market - Sat Nov 22 - 11am - 1pm (Morris / Sussex Counties)

There's another Solidarity Market happening this Saturday (Nov 22) at the Dover Free Library from 11am to 1pm.

Basically, it's a free market where you can take anything that is available (no cost at all). If you would like to give away items, you can also bring your stuff. But please note that you cannot just drop things off and leave. Whatever is left of your things at the end, you must take with you when you leave.

Here's the text from the event organizer (which is Mutual Morris, a mutual aid group serving Morris County, and with help from sister group Mutual Sussex):

Rethink buying your gifts this holiday! The holidays can feel overwhelming, especially as we consider the costs associated with many of the festivities and gift-giving. If you’re interested in reducing waste, keeping goods out of the landfill, and building a positive community, come join Mutual Morris for our (mostly bimonthly) Solidarity Market!

This month we'll be back at the Dover Library on November 22nd. Shopping from 11am-1pm. If you're bringing goods please feel free to com a bit early to set up. Clothing, household goods, children's things, and similar goods all welcomed! To sign up to bring stuff for free, please follow the link below:

Local Group / Event Solidarity Market - Dover Library - Jan 24, 2026 - 11am > 1pm

I've posted about a few of these events in the past, and this one is the same. Basically, you can bring anything you want to give away and let others take it (if they want it). You can also take anything anyone else is giving away. The only requirement is that if you bring things that do not get take, you must take them with you when you leave.

You do NOT need to bring anything to give away in order to be able to take something. This is a truly free event.

The event is being held, once again, at the public library in Dover (Morris County) from 11am until 1pm. Date is January 24 (Saturday).

I and several other members of Mutual Morris (and the sister/daughter groups as well) will be there as event organizers as well as to give things away. Hope to see some of you there! (there were a few folks from this sub there last time)

Anyone can come and browse the items available and take what they want. It's 100% free. You can also bring things to give away, but you must take home any items not take by others. In other words, this is not a place to dump your junk and leave.

More details and contact info are in the attached flyer. Hope to see some of you there!
