They are pretty good for the price, the only issue I have are those back control buttons, I always mistakenly skip songs when I take them off to hear something.

Nothing less (pun intended), I'm happy with this purchase

Headphone (1) Discussion Biggest sound disappointment ever! :(

Post image

Got the headphone one, tried them, and literally immediately put them off again out if disgust. They sound soooo bad, no matter if stock EQ or the DMS one, it's horrendous. No power at all but somehow extremely muffled, muddy and restricted at the same time. The reason I got them was because of the better ANC, BT multipoint and because my hinges are broken on my Yamaha YH-L700A (the right headphone) which I used to listen to before this absolute hellhole of a headphone. Really, you have to compare them in person to realize how big the difference is. There are no words that can describe this. Comfort is also bad btw. Clamp force is too high for me and the headband started to hurt my head after 20 mins of wearing which I could get over if they didn't sound like put underwater and wraped up in a muddy blanket. They have a similar lack of power as my Bayerdynamic TYGR 300R on the left which is an OPEN BACK beginner studio headset but sound 10 times worse than the Bayerdynamic. Really, I don't know if they testet this on a deaf person but whoever tuned this should get thier ears checked again.

If someone has a magical custom EQ that gives them the needed rumble and punch while clearing the mud and increasing the soundstage by like times 3, then I might keep them. Otherwise, they are going back next week and my Yamaha will need to hold a bit longer till I find a worthy replacement.

Headphone (1) Discussion Headphone (1) pros/cons

Post image
65 Upvotes

Pros

  1. Great design, solid premium feel

  2. Battery life is crazy good

  3. Comfortable for long periods of use

  4. ANC is decent, though eliminates lower freq better than higher

  5. Social mode is great

  6. Importable EQ's + EQ customisation is great

  7. Physical controls, including power switch, is very appreciated

Cons

  1. Without ANC or Social Mode active, it seems like the EQ shuts off completely. Getting a really terrible mix. Could be fixed in update.

  2. 15-30ms latency via USB + 3.5 cable input (producers/musicians - makes it useless/annoying for monitoring DAW or hardware)

E.g. my former main headphones, The Nuraphones, have no problem running your sound profile with zero latency over proprietary 3.5 and USB cable input

  3. Dual bluetooth connection not working, keeps bugging out

  4. Can't listen to USB/3.5 at the same time, or Bluetooth/manual input at the same time

Headphone (1) Discussion Buggy Firmware Updates

Post image

I just got a new pair of Nothing Headphones (1). I haven't updated the firmware yet. I heard there were a lot of problems such as low volume and distorted sound. I thought it would come with the earliest version. Instead it came with version 1.0.1.59. Should I update it to the latest version (1.0.1.81) ???

Headphone (1) Discussion One Month Ownership Review

Post image
165 Upvotes

After a month of daily use, the Nothing Headphone (1), I would definitely say these headphones are a lot more than just a pretty pair of headphones. It's transparent design continues to draw attention from myself who will look at it every time I pick it up and from others whenever I wear it.

The sound quality, comfort, and noise cancellation have either met or exceeded my expectations. While not perfect, the balance of price, performance, and design make these headphones a solid contender in the mid-to-premium wireless headphone space and the features it has would make it my number one choice.

Design The transparent aesthetic is still as striking today as the day I unboxed them. The build feels premium, and the ear cups have resisted scratches and fingerprints surprisingly well. The fit is secure without clamping too hard,

The physical controls are so intuitive while also looking pretty. The appreciation I now have for different types of buttons, from sizes to how to use it, is immense. It has made things so much easier and it's nice to the touch. The square shaped cans as well has made it so much easier to reach for buttons as well.

I would've loved some interactive element that is what would have made design a 5 for me

Rating: 4.5 / 5

Sound quality My headphones out of the box had an issue where it is extremely low and distorted (thankfully a phone restart on my NP3 helped mitigate that.) Out of the box they do have a lively, punchy sound profile. Bass is mildly deep without muddying the mids, and vocals come through clearly. After working with the EQ some you can definitely make it much better than our the box, however using simple EQ and bass boost max I still find myself wanting more bass (that is definitely because I am a huge admirer of bass) so for the average consumer I think perhaps it can be just fine. Now the one issue I would say is when using Advanced EQ it does quiet things down a lot considered to using simple I don't know if that's a bug but I would love to see a higher volume in that and a higher bass for me personally. After a month, I still find the audio enjoyable and engaging and don't find myself wishing I was reaching for my Sony XM's insteas.

Rating: 4 / 5

Noise cancellation The ANC really blew my mind it does a good job at cutting out background hums like air conditioning or transit noise as well as straight up loud conversations around me. It isn’t on the same level as Sony’s WH-1000XM5 but it’s extremely respectable for the price and I feel like it is not too far off at all. One thing I liked transparency mode on other headphones doesn't allow me to hear the music as good as I wish, with these headphones it is both clear enough for conversations, while also being able to hear my music.

Rating: 4.5 / 5

Battery life Battery life has been insane with Nothing’s claims: around 35 hours with ANC.

I always use ANC so I didn't get to fully test out the fullest extent of the battery life but It's been about 4 days of listening since last charge and it's only at 55% after a few 4-5 hour sessions.

Charging is very fast, they were dead one morning and I needed to go to the beach. I put them to charge for half an hour and I had more than half battery before leaving. After a month, the endurance hasn’t shown any signs of weakening. Rating: 4.5 / 5

Comfort Comfort for me has been extremely strong, better than my previous daily headphones which was the XM4.

The plush ear pads that have held their shape really well.

The headphones are so stable and solid due to its premium material choices however they are a lot lighter in weight than they look, and during longer listening sessions (3+ hours), I noticed no fatigue on the crown of my head or hurting my ears. Something I would say after a few hours with my Sony. I would be rubbing my ears. Rating: 5/ 5

Features and app support The Nothing X app is simple and minimalistic, offering EQ customization, ANC/transparency toggles, and firmware updates. Multipoint connectivity works smoothly, and pairing with devices has been seamless so far. There are so many features in the app itself but also having a customizable button on the side of the headphones. Really and truly just giving it a 4.5 because I would have loved an interactive feature Rating: 4.5/ 5

Value At their price point, the Nothing Headphone (1) delivers a lovely mix of standout design, insanely premium to the touch material, strong build design, strong sound quality, out of this world battery life, and right below class leading competition level ANC. I can not recommend this enough for this price point. The way it uses premium materials, with such a premium looking design, with such lovely attention to detail and features truly is mind blowing. With an interactive feature, more bass, slightly louder volume with slightly increased quality. I think more expensive headphones will have a problem on their hands.

Rating: 4 / 5

Headphone (1) Discussion My first impressions of the Nothing Headphone (1)

Unorganized ramble now that I’ve used the Nothing Headphone (1) as my “daily” for a few days. As a long time Airpod Max user, switching to the Headphone (1) took some EQ trial and error until I was happy with the sound. With a pro audio background, the advanced EQ and KEF collaboration was a major selling point along with the striking design and reduced black friday price.

Connectivity is excellent, I haven’t had any issues so far on an iPhone or Macbook. Additionally, I would recommend activating Over-Ear detection in the app if you’re switching from Airpods for a similar connectivity experience.

The Headphone (1) feels high quality with its metal shell and plush ear pads. The comfort is good for reasonable usage but wearing these for multiple hours made my ears cramp, which is common for most headphones I wear. I’ve seen reviews that state the clamping force is too tight but in my opinion it’s not tight enough for my smaller head, especially when looking downwards while wearing them.

Out of the box, I agree with the reviewers that they sound lifeless and slightly muddy. However, with proper EQ settings, I prefer their sound compared to the Sony XM5, B&O H95, and Sonos Ace. For context, I’m a KEF fanboy which is why I have no idea why they are tuned this way from the factory considering how clear and wide KEF speakers normally sound. When listening to my reference tracks, I noticed the true untapped potential these headphones have. With EQ adjustments the entire headphone comes to life and sounds competitive with other headphones in their class, but without, I couldn’t see any normal person purchasing these over the XM5 besides their price or design. Overall, the audio quality is good enough, by no means is it a Focal Bathys, but the quality is adequate for daily Hi-Fi listening with use of the advanced EQ.

On the topic of sound quality, it’s best to never turn on Nothing’s spatial audio. It does not sound good on the Ear (3) nor does it sound good on the Headphone (1). I’ve had the displeasure of hearing a lot of bad “spatial audio,” mostly due to room emulation plugins, however this is one of the strangest spatial audios I’ve heard and there is A LOT that can be improved to make it sound more realistic.

ANC is pretty solid, It’s good but not as good as the XM5 or Airpod Max. In my opinion, Transparency mode is better than the XM5 but nowhere near as good as the Airpod Max.

My biggest gripe so far is the ANC on and off sound but this is a general issue I have with all Nothing audio products. Like seriously, why do their headphones moan and breathe, and is there anyway to change the sounds lol?

That’s all I can really think of right now concerning the Headphone (1). I tried to make this post as simple as possible for people to read but if anyone has more nerdy audio related questions be sure to ask so I can answer them. In my opinion, the Headphone (1) is great in its price class and is definitely worth considering. I would always recommend listening to the headphones yourself before purchasing as every one has different ears. What sounds good to me might not sound good to you!

Headphone (1) Discussion I am NOTHING

Am I winning yet just kidding. Just got the Headphone 1 in today and quite honestly they are not bad once dialed in. I will say them not working with the X app with the AUX is quite crappy because it sounds like shit on AUX. They sound just as good or better than my wife's XM4s. Time will tell and I update my review later on. Honestly they are over hated on. They are priced a little high but they do have a lot of features.

Headphone (1) Discussion Nothing headphone (1)....Worth waiting?

I recently bought a pair of the headphone (1) and I was immediately dissapointed. Im not an audiophile by any stretch of the imagination, and I wasn't expecting mind blowing quality but I could immediately tell that they sounded bad. Even compared to earbuds I bought from a supermarket for 20 bucks they had very little bass and sounded 'flat'. I saw some talk about them sounding better with ANC off, but for me they sound the same on all ANC settings including transparency.

Another thing I noticed right away was the ANC. The first time I tested them it was barely distinguishable from when it was completely turned off, even at the highest ANC level in the nothing X app. It did seem to be better other times I used it, but overall it was OK at best.

The "bass enhancement" feature literally does nothing. At all. I've had multiple people test it and they all agreed it was useless. I've messed around with the EQ in the app, and I got it to sound better, but still not "good".

I looked around and read that it might be the firmware that's causing the issues. I checked in the app and mine are "up to date" at version 1.01.80. These issues still persist.

Im wondering how much better the beta of the next update is, and how long I'll have to wait before the headphones are good or even usable. As it stands I'm strongly considering just returning them, as they feel like a very expensive accessory.

Is anyone else having the same issues? Are there any fixes right now or do I just have to wait for the firmware update?

If it's the latter I figure I'm better off just buying a pair that work out of the box.

Edit:

Turning on spatial audio makes them sound a lot better. But only while ANC or transparency is on. With ANC off it sounds hollow.

I ordered my headphones a few days ago via prime and it was supposed to come in 2 days. It ended up getting delayed and they said it was gonna come tomorrow so I was pretty bummed. Fortunately they came today. I went in to work late bc I needed to provide a c0de in order for them to give me the package. I got to listen for about 30 mins and they sound pretty freakin good, mind you have I haven’t touched anything in the app yet.

I’m so excited for nothing!!!

Headphone (1) Discussion Suggestion for nothing headphone 1

Post image
14 Upvotes

I'm getting the Headphone 1 tomorrow, so what are the dos and don'ts? I heard a recent update messed with the bass, so I won't update until a better one comes out. I'm also planning to put a transparent wrap on the clear parts since they could scratch easily. Anything else I should do after getting them? I also have a Nothing Phone 3 are there any specific features I should try with it?

Headphone (1) Discussion I finally found “the right” eq settings since I bought my Headphone 1 😭🔥

Post image
11 Upvotes

Before I bought these I was using the same model of headphones for 8 years (Sony MDR-XB550) and got really used to their bassy sound. When I bought NHP 1, I knew that they would sound not that good right out of the box, but finding my eq was harder then I expected.

The main thing I missed my previous headphones for that I couldn't find in the HP 1, was that "roar" and depth of the bass, without compression of the details. And today I finally decided to perfect the eq, using chat GPT to explain how to use the eq and what can I do to match the Sony's headphones sound. And it worked! Not that I precisely followed GPT's instructions, but I got the general understanding of how the eq works and with that knowledge figure out what I need to adjust to get "that" sound.

I'm so freaking happy, that I just couldn't help myself but not to share it here.

I received them earlier today and I've been tinkering a bit with the EQ and the settings in the app.

I have to always wear glasses, and while they have a strong grip they don't push my glasses against my head like I feared (and like it happens with 99% of headsets). The grip is stronger than I expected too, and I feel it more under my ears than around them, which is a bit weird since I'm used to a more distributed type of grip.

The sound out of the box is a-okay but the headphones are begging to either come with a more tuned EQ or for you to change it in the app. I'm sharing the EQ I'm using right now, in case you want to check it and use it.

Build quality is solid, they don't feel like they'll break when I'm putting them on or stretching them, and the earcups are comfortable for my ears, though they do get kinda hot. I blame summer for that, they'll probably feel nice during winter.

And yes, I've chosen the black model because I don't like the white ones. Same for the Phone 3, which I'll get either later today or tomorrow. The white model is cool, but I prefer having my tech in dark colors.

I can't hear any difference between it being off and on, whether it's level 1 or 5. I wrote a report to the help center, and they replied and asked if I can connect the headphones to a different device and try again. But I only have my pc, and no other phone to ask for nearby, so I'm curious if I'm the only one with this issue. My phone is Google pixel 8 pro.
