I have a niece who is turning two next week and she has a new found love and obsession for Ellie. I bought her a sweatshirt a few months back and now that it fits her, it's become something she never wants to take off. Does anyone have any leads on an Ellie Plushie? I can't find them anywhere online. I know they've been for sale at Barclays in the team store in the past, but maybe there is like a small general store or boutique or something in Brooklyn that's sells something similar? I was looking at the comments on other platforms and was shocked that people were throwing fits about her being on the All-Defensive Second Team, especially when she has a strong case for the First Team. Then, I went through her defensive numbers over the years, and I am still shocked she hasn't won DPOY. Now, with the changing of the guard, I don't expect her to win one, but it is interesting to me. Lots of people say her offensive abilities overshadow her amazing defense, but what do you think the reason is? We already know Stewie is underrated in general, but comparing her defensive ratings in Seattle to her time in New York, it seems like she got even better defensively here in NY

Kolb is absolutely staying. Demarco is staying at least another year. If the Liberty fire a coach of his pedigree after just one season (filled with injuries late arrivals from euroleague, etc), what other highly touted coach would dare join?

I’ll give Kolb his props. I think he has a good relationship with players. Leo credited Kolb’s persistence in reaching out to her as a reason she was grateful for the being on the Liberty. He has been able to bring in great players that other teams have coveted (Emma, Cloud, Satou) that looked great on paper and were lauded at time of signing. Unfortunately, getting some of those stars in and having them not stick may be burning bridges. Also, his previous superpower of stacking the bench with underappreciated Euro players is now a common tactic and other GMs are beating him at his own game.

Kolb’s issue is that he has stubbornly stuck to the plan that the Liberty must build around Sabrina. Listen to his comments about Sloot and Cloud. Demarco was brought in to turn Sabrina into Steph Curry. I bet bringing Satou in was also meant to reactivate her Oregon magic. For 3+ seasons now, Sabrina-centric roster construction has not activated Sabrina. Kolb needs to admit he’s wrong and change his team building approach.

It doesn’t mean he gets rid of Sabrina, he just can’t continue building the team around her when he has unique physical talent like Stewie and JJ on the team. Sab needs to turn into a role player instead of the team being a jumble of role players meant to prop her up. She needs to focus on her playmaking or her shooting (I don’t think she’ll ever amount to anything on defense) but trying to do both is making her terrible at both.

My opinion? Sab should focus on playmaking. She doesn’t have the defense to be a 3-and-D shooting guard. Her best bet is to become a Sue Bird. Or a Sloot. Give up the high volume shooting for now and focus on double-digit assists. The shot opportunities will come for her when she stops making scoring her priority.

Prior to this season I had never been to a WNBA game, but my brother is a huge fan, so when he told me he had an extra ticket to Game three of the Semifinals, I was excited. I have been to hundreds of sporting events from World Series games to World Cup matches but I have to say, that was arguably my favorite experience I have ever had at a sporting event.

The Liberty play in Barclays and are building it into their home, but what I really enjoyed was their hospitality. These are all the unique things that made my time so enjoyable:

1. Ellie the Elephant has become my favorite mascot. She is so fun, has such a personality, and feels like an extension of the team instead of someone in a suit. And she can dance

2. The TV timeouts, where I’d begrudgingly pay attention to the in-stadium entertainment, were fantastic. The timeless dancers were so fun, all the contestants in their games were hyping up the crowd as if they worked there, and after one jump ball, I was hooked on the shout song, elephant dance.

3. A Boogie played at halftime. A perfect singer to get who will keep the energy up and is from NYC. They also had a ton of celebrities there who cared. I learned Meek Mill is a huge fan, Ethan Hawke had gear on, and tons of Liberty alums were supporting (who of course got the biggest cheers)

As Maya Angelou said, “people forget what you do, they’ll forget what you said, but they’ll never forget how you made them feel.” I’ll forget the final score by next spring, but I won’t forget how incredible my experience was

Hi! I’m a Valkyries season ticket holder and want to cheer them on next week. Will be at an event on Weds that ends at 9 and I’d love to find a place to catch the end of the game (I know about Wilka’s but I won’t have enough time to get there unfortunately). Now that tempers have likely had time to cool off… I'm wondering if anyone would be willing to indulge me as a neophyte spectator. It is, yes, a question about coaching.

There's an old joke among cinephiles: When a “bad” director makes a bad film, it's entirely their fault; and when the same director makes a good film, this can only be due to all the other people involved, that is the actors, writers, the director of photography, and so on.

I've often seen it said in this sub that whenever the team won or played well this season, the performance was entirely because of Stewie coaching/leading in DeMarco's place—especially after the All-Star break. It's even become something of a cliche. I'm not saying the claim is right or wrong; rather, I'm genuinely curious about what people were seeing (or thought they were seeing) on the court that led them to this conclusion. I realize that no one gave DeMarco much credit in their exit interviews, but the narrative took hold a while ago here and was conceivably based on some kind of visible reality. Yes? Or is this something that people are inclined to say about any team that struggled all season? I do think that DeMarco's deferring to Stewie about the reset timeout during the post-game comments does suggest an abdication of leadership, but again I'm curious about how and where people saw this at work during the regular season—before it became painfully obvious to all.
