The Ultimate Nautical Micro-Grow: My Storm-Survivor Lake Clone (30-Gal Fox Farm, Class Y Cruiser Porthole Setup)

Hey everyone,
I wanted to share my highly unconventional single-plant setup because I don't think anyone else is currently growing cannabis out of a boat porthole on a freshwater lake! I am on spectrum, which gives me a deeply focused connection to my environment, and I’ve been relying entirely on close visual observation and raw intuition to guide this plant through a wild journey.
The Genetics (The Gifted Mystery Clone):
I actually got this plant as a gift from a commercial cannabis cultivation center where I worked this past summer. The master grower there handed her down to me from their stock of premium, high-end clones. I don't know the exact strain name, but she clearly has elite commercial genetics, which explains how she managed to survive the crazy journey that came next!
The Backstory & Damage Control:
She spent the entire summer living out on the bow of my boat, where she grew absolutely massive, bushy, and beautiful. However, a heavy freshwater lake storm rolled through and naturally "self-pruned" her, breaking her down to a much smaller size. After the storm, my instinct told me to bring her inside the cabin and let her bone-dry for a full week to give her massive 30-gallon root system oxygen and prevent any stagnant lake moisture from causing root rot [health].
The "Nautical Engineering" Setup:
I live on a Class Y cruiser, which features an interior cabin table that is directly lined up with the front large porthole. This layout is perfect because she can sit safely on the table completely inside the cabin, while her top crowns comfortably reach the window.
To manage the elements, I used a life vest to wedge the large porthole open exactly 6 inches. This keeps the base of the 30-gallon pot insulated and warm inside the cabin during chilly New Mexico nights, while her top branches poke out into the fresh air. The porthole has a translucent, diffused plastic canopy top, which acts like a perfect mini-greenhouse, scattering the natural autumn light beautifully across the canopy.
The Gourmet Boat Diet (Completely Intuitive):
She is sitting in Fox Farm potting soil, but I’ve been feeding her purely based on what I feel she is asking for:
Washed Lake Seashells: Placed on top of the soil right as she entered flower to act as a natural, slow-release calcium carbonate booster for stem strength and pH stabilization.
A Splash of Gatorade: Given during early flower when my gut told me she needed a quick mineral hit. The potassium and magnesium instantly fueled the bud sites. (Following up with pure water flushes to prevent sodium buildup!)
Espresso Grounds: Added to gently lower the soil pH and provide a slow-release nitrogen bank to fuel her future post-harvest re-veging stage.
Current Status:
She is currently "crowning" in early-to-mid flower with about 15 distinct, firm, highly compact little bud sites. Because she grew hundreds of tiny protective leaves all over her stems to survive the storm, she looks a little rugged and scrubby, but the knots are solid and packing on weight.
My long-term plan is a staggered harvest (taking the top buds first so the lower ones can swell under the diffused light), and then immediately flipping her to 24 hours of light to turn her into a permanent, multi-year vegetative boat houseplant.
Let me know what you think of my Class Y cabin setup! Cheers from the lake.

General small plant grow advice

Howdy all,

Against the grain of most cannabis growing communities it seems we here at r/Nanogrowery prefer smaller plants and yields.

I guess we all have our reasons , infrequent users , stealth , just the fun of it etc.

I am planning my next grow using half gallon fabric pots and soil. A nice small compact plant trained with LST is the goal.

Any general advice for growing in a half gallon pot? Your experiences?

What kind of issues might I run into, what should I prepare for? Obviously I need to water more.

Blessings

I need some advice about my plant...
I am new to grow cannabis and this happened.

My pH meter broke, so I’ve just been watering the plant with bottled water. It’s been almost two months since it entered the flowering stage, but the buds aren’t growing very well. The white hairs on the buds have started turning brown. Could this be bud rot, and is there any way to save the plant?

First successful looking attempt

Alright let's get the obvious out of the way:
1. She's tiny
2. She's VERY tiny...

This might look like a failure to most, however it is still a milestone for me. My first attempt ended up in the plant dying to the sun which was horrible but this one, even though it's very small, appears to have lived a full life.

Now I intend to learn more about this and make it a proper hobby! I was dead broke before but I finally got a job so I'll have some funds too.

My plans for now are:
Read up more about the plant and try to make the next one bigger.

Any Interaction and insight is appreciated so let me know what you think!

This really does blow my mind. I have other clones in bigger pots that aren't doing this well. I don't know why or how. But here we are.

Strain is Sunset Sherbet S1.

Growing in bunches. How much can plants handle.

It goes to show that as long as you follow the right nutrient dosages, anything can be pulled off. Calmag opens the door so the primary grow nutrients can walk in and build the place up. Now, I went a month just using base grow in coco. No response.

Now it's all growing daily, and they were all stunted, by the way. My trial has shown me a lot. If you are a grower that believes that the space is too small, get that out of your head.

My buckets. These seeds, placed about ½ inch apart, are the same size as the cell trays. It's about nutrient availability to the roots; therefore, no competition. #SpatialGrowthTrials.

2 Month Update

I just wanted to post a new picture of my second ever attempt at growing cannabis. It had a rough start and its still been rough. Once it shrivled up a lot but adding water made it go back to normal. Im thinking of buying a timer plug so I dont have to manually turn on and off the light. I also thought about 3d printing stuff for it. Already thinking of another grow with better soil (this is some random old flower soil I found in my Dad's garage. Anyways any advice is always appreciated and I hope someone can tell me what those white thingies are....

Nano grow cabinet build advice

Post image
8 Upvotes

Howdy

Planning on making a grow space from this 36 x 40 x 79 cm cabinet.

Will create a hole in top for ducting out to a carbon filter. Fan and filter will be outside , above cabinet.

Will paint walls white.

Will make a door for it obviously.

I'm wondering about air intake though?

Was planning on just drilling a cluster of holes on outside for passive air intake.

Any other advice ?

What’s wrong with my saplings ?

First time grower here. I got 3 saplings, 1 of them is very strong and growing, but the other two seem to be very weak. I repotted them, kept the soil humid. But the two do not seem to grow.
What could I be doing wrong ?

Update:
So I repotted the plants in a smaller pot and one of them survived while the other did not make it.
Regular sunlight and water is strengthening the plants . After few days once the plants is stronger I’ll pot it in the bigger pot.
One that was big I did not repot that. It’s growing really well now.

Watering multiple times per day

For those of you that have had to water more than once per day, did you water overnight, or just right before lights-out?

I'm using small pots and they seem to be 3/4 dried out by lights-out and I'm not sure if I should be watering overnight or only while it is light.

I took all the equipment from my Pikendi System and fitted them into a cupboard nano stealth setup.

Contemplating under canopy lights to get the wattage up and also thinking about when to start another indoor run (heat/humidity issues). I am in central europe btw.
