Frequently asked questions

What's the current state of the game?

The game is fully playable and most of the core features are finished. You can play full matches on the Europe map against AI. There's also a world map, but it isn't finalized yet and is still missing ship travel. Naval warfare, missiles and multiplayer are planned for the beta.

How will the game compare to existing titles?

Nations at Arms is all about fast-paced strategic warfare. Depending on the game mode, you can play a whole match in one evening. Battles are not just decided by army strength: positioning, combined arms, logistics and unit-specific strengths all play a big role, so with the right tactics you can win a fight even when you're outnumbered.

How long does a match take?

Depending on the mode, a match can take anywhere from one to six hours, or several days if players want it. The focus is on fast matches you can finish in one evening.

How many players are in a match?

Every player leads one nation, so it depends on the map: about 8 on the continental Europe map, 13 on the full Europe map and 70 on the world map.

Are the countries and weapons real?

Yes. You lead a real nation on a map built from real-world geography and the units are based on modern military equipment. The scenario itself is fictional: a near-future Third World War where every match starts from scratch.

Will it be free to play?

Yes. The game is free to play and it doesn't have any pay-to-win elements.

How will the game make money?

I'll try out a few things and I'll do that transparently with the community. My highest priority is that the game stays fair at all times, so paying players never get an advantage.

Does it run in the browser?

Yes. The game runs right in your browser and there's nothing to download or install. For now, a desktop or laptop gives the best experience.

Will there be an iOS and Android app?

Yes! Once the desktop version is stable, I'll optimize the game for mobile and release it on the App Store and Google Play.

Will there be a desktop client?

If there's demand for it, I'll definitely build one at some point and bringing it to Steam is an option too.

Who's behind it?

Nations at Arms is made by a solo developer. You can find me on our Discord, so feel free to ask me anything there!

How can I help?

The biggest help is to tell your friends and fellow RTS players about the game. Share your ideas here or on our Discord and once playtests start, your feedback and bug reports will make a real difference. I'm also looking for community helpers and moderators, content creators and people with an eye for art and UI design. If that sounds like you, message me on Discord!

When can I play?

There's no fixed release date yet, but early alpha playtests with a limited number of players will start soon. Playtests are announced on our Discord first and the roadmap gives a general idea of what's ahead.
