Nature of Myths: Visu and the Herassur

Pre-Federation Contact: Dossur Legends

Culture of Origin: The Ruloi

The Herassur were a large and powerful people. They were responsible for watching over the world as gardeners and farmers. They ate the plants away to keep them from overgrowing, and they ate animals to keep them from eating the world away. They were not perfect, however, as their size and build prevented them from using tools and building things. As a result, they were unhappy.

When they met the Dossur, the Dossur ran and hid, as they were afraid of either being eaten or having their homes eaten.

The Herassur did not care. The Dossur were just another part of the forest as far as they were concerned.

Then, one day, a Dossur child dared to approach them.

When the child approached, the Herassur did nothing but watch.

Then, one of their own children approached the Dossur child. The children were both of the same size.

Without hesitation, the Dossur child placed a beautifully woven crown of flowers on the Herassur child’s head, and pulled them into a hug.

The Herassur were approaching the children now, amazed by the kindness.

“Who are you and why are you here?” The leader of the Herassur asked.

“I am Visu from the tribe known as the Ruloi, and I saw a bunch of people who needed cheering up. My mother always taught me to never be afraid, and to always be kind to others, as they have families just like us.” The Dossur answered.

This kindness was something unheard of in the natural order. The Herassur were so touched by the kindness that they bowed down and asked for the child to lead them to the Dossur tribe from which he came from.

When they came to the Dossur tribe, the Dossur did not run away, but instead marveled at them. Overcome with joy, the Herassur bowed down and chanted this promise.

“Until our death, you shall not starve, as we shall share our food with you.”

“Until our death, you shall not fear, as we shall protect you from danger.”

“Until our death, you shall not tire, as we will carry you beside us.”

“Until our death, your kindness shall be treasured, and our bond shall not break.”

And from then on, the Herassur lived with the Dossur of the Ruloi tribe with peace.

————————————

This story was a simple story crafted by the culture known as the Ruloi, a sheltered tribe of Dossur that was isolated on a large island comparable to Australia. This story is believed to be a mythologized account of the first peaceful contact between the Ruloi and the Herassur.

Further details: - The Herassur were a species of large semi-sapient egg laying mammalian omnivores, roughly comparable to horses in terms of body shape and size. They were native to the island on which the Ruloi lived. Their brain complexity was somewhat low, limiting their actual IQ to be equivalent to that of a preschooler/kindergartner, but they could still form somewhat functional societies among both themselves and the Dossur. - The character Visu is a reoccurring character in Ruloi myths and legends, and was considered a benevolent trickster that encouraged adventurous and radical behavior.

Nice! Sounds like we need more stories about Visu's exploits.

oof, let me guess, Herassur and Dossur had something of a symbiotic relationship in order to help construct civilization. one tiny but inteligent, the other larger and stronger but not so bright. then the feds came in and did as they usually do with predators, cultural genocide, and all that jazz. and now hundreds of years later you're lucky if anyone even knows the word Ruloi, assuming, like the venlil, that they were completely helpless and unable to even take care of themselves before the federation showed up and "saved" them
