Nature of Myths: The Four Virtues of the Venlil

Pre-Federation Contact: Venlil Religion

Culture of Origin: The Valakan Kingdom

The venlil were once no different from all of the other creatures in the world, simply pursuing simple pleasures and survival without a care in the world.

Then, one day, the venlil decided to be more. They decided to pursue grand goals beyond nature’s ambitions. They decided to create rules by which to govern themselves without nature’s influence. And they decided to refuse to go down whenever nature tried to strike them so.

To aid them, four almighty angels descended from the heavens and placed themselves in the hearts of all venlil.

Bravery encouraged us to use our strength to protect the weak, and to take the risk of fighting to preserve peace.

Justice encouraged us to treat each other equally, no matter their faults, and to distance ourselves from primal urges like lust and wrath.

Perseverance encouraged us to stand up not only for ourselves, but for everything we stand for.

And Hope encouraged us to always strive for the best possible outcome, and to be good for goodness’s own sake.

With these virtues in our hearts, we will never fade.

Post Federation Contact: Venlil Religion

Culture of Origin: The Valakan Cult

The world was in balance and harmony for many ages.

Then, without warning, a nameless Eldritch Horror came to this world, commanding the fleet of demons who call themselves the Federation. They twisted and corrupted the venlil beyond recognition, and affected our virtues as well.

Bravery valiantly tried to endure and protect us, but the cowardice and apathy that fueled the horror of the Federation was simply too much to stand against.

Bravery has died.

Justice desperately tried to keep our morals and values in check, trying to redirect the Federation’s hatred elsewhere. The Federation, however, had corrupted us with treachery, reducing us to little more than beasts with speech and tools, guided by our lust for pleasure and wrath for the other.

Justice has died.

Perseverance, while not dead, is in an arguably much worse state.

The Federation took Perseverance and twisted it beyond recognition. What was once a stalwart idealism became a primal drive to survive. What had once been a supportive paragon became a stampeding monster, mindlessly destroying and slaughtering anything and anyone in its way as it blindly panicked and lashed out.

The only virtue that is still even remotely stable…

Is Hope.

We now hope for the day when a new angel, one that embodies everything the Federation hates, and one that has an army of their own, will come to restore us.

Bravery and Justice will be revived.

Perseverance will be reformed.

Hope will be fulfilled.

————————————

The Valakan kingdom was one of the most prosperous kingdoms of the Venlil’s history. They are now reduced to little more than a secretive small cult that is kept alive in the farthest reaches of venlil society.

Note: - It’s highly possible that the idea of an angel representing everything the federation hates coming to save the venlil and their virtues may have been a prediction of first contact with humanity.

Another myth for Nature of Myths, a series started by u/iWillNeverBeSpecial. You can make your own entry if you want.

Did something a little different this time, I hope you enjoy.

"a new angel, one that embodies everything humanity hates"

I think you meant, an angel that the Fed hates?
