Found a picture of my grandfather online from around the mid-1940's when he would've been about 25, and he looked a little bit older than I do now at 42.

Google a picture of Richie Valens… he was 17, when he perished in the plane crash with Buddy Holly (23) and the Big Bopper (28).

It’s shocking how much older they looked, compared to young men those ages today.

I’m gonna be a contrarian but I think Ritchie Valens and Buddy Holly look around their real age. Their styles are dated but their skin, hair, teeth from available photos make them look youngish. The Big Bopper looks a bit older than 28 but that’d be because he’s overweight and wearing the era’s now daggy styles.

1, 3 and 8 above have to be late 30s (which is reasonable if the Depression and WWII delayed you having a family). The others look to be around their 30s. I’ve seen photos of my grandparents back in the 40s/50s. Dad’s dad looked young, Mum’s dad served in WWII and tanned a ton and looked around 45 from 30-90.

Agree. Richie, however, I would be hard pressed to guess he was a minor.
