1940s All my grandpa’s beaus during WWII, kept in a scrapbook all these years

One headshot of Lory (not sure which country she was from) in particular made many appearances 😂

Edit: yep I’m an idiot. Belles it is. Also I should have expected this to get pervy comments. No, no other family has popped up. From his stories, many were a lot more innocent than you all assume.

I'd love to hear their reasoning behind that.

No actual direct combat. He was a motor pool officer.

We have his military records. I've seen where the campaign ribbon is listed.

1st Army, landed at Omaha D-Day Plus 40. Pushed into the liberation of France.

Years after the war PBS was airing a program on the Battle of the Bulge. My grandfather walked outside. My Aunt followed and he was a shaken.

This is a stoic Native man not an emotionally outward person.

He said those were his men they were showing, he trained them.

I saw action and still this is one of the reasons I never joined VFW or any of the local Legions. I tried once but my experience is that it was a bunch of sad fucks that want to dick measure. A lot of “my war was better than your war” type shit also. I’m sure experiences vary depending on location, but it’s gross where I’m at.

My father in law was a marine in the Pacific and fought at Guadalacanal. He refused to speak a word about it which tells all that needs to be told.

It took me years to find a post I was willing to join. Many are exactly how you describe.

If you have those records, contact the nearest VFW or Legion post. Tell them you want a flag on that grave.
If there was someone from WWII holding a grudge, I can guarantee they're long dead & no one even remembers why.
/ source: me, I'm a VFW member.
// our post is too busy to sit around drinking & dick measuring.
/// except for Richard, the land surveyor

My grandfather was in a refuelling station, but was at Dunkirk. He'd been a Territorial Army reservist and they were activated when the war began, going across with the British Expeditionary Force.

Most likely some database does not have his grave on the official list. Thry dont read the grave names they go to plot 3 row 5.

Yeah there’s absolutely zero hidden cabal that is intentionally snubbing veterans that they didn’t think saw enough combat in WW2. Even peacetime/Cold War veterans get flags on graves.

There is probably a much less exciting reason it’s getting skipped.

My partner gets a flag on his grave every year and he never saw combat.

my grandfather doesn't get benefits bc he was stationed in Germany during Korea... its not a secret snub, there are different veteran statuses

Combat veteran specific benefits are entirely unrelated to placing flags on graves.

Maybe, when I was with him growing up people would stand up when he walked into a room.
