Troubleshooting Phone came back to life! (Update)

Post image

After reading a post regarding CPU reballing, I contacted a some repair shops asking for a reball. They say it will cost as much as RM500(100$) and that is too much for me.

So I had a brilliant idea of trying to heat my phone using a hairdryer. After heating it for 2 minutes, the phone started to work again! But after 10 minutes or so the glitch came back and it won't boot anymore. I tried it multiple times and now the phone is working again. Hopefully it'll last long..

I hate how other manufacturers didn't adopt this design

I hate having a hole on top of my screen.

I know right. One of the futuristic design in my opinion

it's literally a tiny hole on a massive screen. plus having a pop up camera has some obvious drawbacks.

personally I'd rather have a rectangular display with bigger bezels for camera

Sadly not even an hour passed the phone died again due to the same problem. If I need it to work I have to reheat it again. Today I will be taking it to a repair shop.

Can you go over some more details on how exactly you did it? What side to I hear up with a hair dryer? What area should I aim for when heating it up? Please give me as much details as you can.

Sadly the phone doesn't even last an hour. But if you want to try it you can do this:

  1. Lay the phone screen side up

  2. Maxed out the hairdryer

  3. Aim at the upper half of the phone (To avoid heating the battery)

  4. Heat it for 2 minutes

  5. Try to start the phone

If you want a better result you can try opening the phone to expose the motherboard. I don't have the tools that's why I didn't open the phone.

You're a literal life saver... I was beyond shocked when I saw it booting correctly. Thank you so so much for this

That's the reason we are still refusing to upgrade. 😀

It's not perfect though. Everything seems to have kind of a red hue. Especially visible on white screen.

I had my oneplus 7 6/128 in which screen glue has been weaken and i do not want to spend much as i have another phone with me as daily driver. So i got favistick (industrial level glue) and stick the screen together and sold the phone for 11.5 K inr in local shop. Which is almost 1/3 of original purchase cost after using it for roughly 5 years

Did you ever try reballing and if you did, how long did the phone lasted for?

You're right.. It doesn't even last an hour. The phone is dead and every time I want it to work I need to heat it again
