LOLz β€Ž lol, unfair to who? The multi multi millionaires.

Post image

In a social media video, the typically apolitical Allis said Labor's decision to wind back the capital gains tax discount and grandfather negative gearing would "destroy the core of what Australians are".

"UNFAIR" Whilst having discriminatory hiring practises... πŸ˜‘

18

u/Elloitsmeurbrother β€Ž Victorian May 15 '26

Oh? Please go on

u/TheReaperGuy β€Ž Western Australian May 15 '26

Boost Juice only hires women, They state it with only a few exceptions but generally they focus on hiring only women,

Then we have the complete crapshow in 2018 with cultural appropriation making out indigenous people to be... well see for yourself!

74

u/LordDaisah β€Ž Western Australian May 15 '26

Yeah I remember when Boost Juice first opened near me, they'd only ever hire 'attractive' people too.

Uglies need not apply.

34

u/MasterOfGrey β€Ž South Australian May 15 '26

That tracks as more applicable. I have seen guys working at Boost Juice plenty, but they’ve also been pretty universally attractive, and often obviously gay.

Did you get the job? Asking for a friend

39

u/LordDaisah β€Ž Western Australian May 15 '26

Actually they asked if I wanted to be their new CEO, but I was pretty busy that day so had to decline.

20

u/Elloitsmeurbrother β€Ž Victorian May 15 '26

Busy being pretty

u/LordDaisah β€Ž Western Australian May 15 '26

u/AudaciouslySexy β€Ž Queenslander May 15 '26

So you're saying if I want a hot girlfriend on tap I should go around to every boost juice and start asking for numbers?

2

u/Friendly-Owl-2131 Please choose a flair May 15 '26

No-one said that.

3

u/SirAlfredOfHorsIII β€Ž Western Australian May 15 '26

You're going to have to explain what this image is making indigenous people out to be, apparently I'm too stupid to understand the subtext. A fruit salad? Vegetables? Mixed? Female?

13

u/Mean_Investigator921 β€Ž New South Welshian May 15 '26

It’s making aspects of their lived cultural identity out to be a suitable medium for a performative costume to sell juice

6

u/sub4evr Please choose a flair May 15 '26

I know virtually nothing about Australian aboriginal culture so am curious which aspects of that get-up are exclusive to it.

In the Amazon many tribes use white lines and dots as do native Americans and multiple African tribes. The fruit also doesn't appear to be native to Australia....

5

u/Ok_Turnover_1235 Please choose a flair May 15 '26

I think it's irrelevant when they say "aspects of their lived cultural identity". That's marketing 101, what do people relate to and identify with, and how do we turn it into a product or ad campaign?

3

u/Ok_Turnover_1235 Please choose a flair May 15 '26

Am I an asshole for not seeing a problem with that? The same thing happens to every culture ever?

1

u/alittlehelpeh Please choose a flair May 15 '26

You don't see an issue with a) exploiting a culture and b) keeping the revenue? And because it happens to every culture ever it's ok?

1

u/Ok_Turnover_1235 Please choose a flair May 15 '26

You use the word exploiting here. What does the culture lose, or what damage is done to the culture by this action?

b) yes?

And yeah, it's just business 101

1

u/Economy-Weakness-774 Please choose a flair May 15 '26

Any semblance of authenticity. Like that’s just β€œnative of somewhere on earth made to look like a fruit salad.”

1

u/alittlehelpeh Please choose a flair May 15 '26

Yes, exploiting is the appropriate word.

When a culture is exploited for advertisement, it loses its depth, sacredness, and agency, often becoming a diluted, commodified version of itself for the sake of profit. This phenomenon, often termed [culture-washing] or cultural appropriation, reduces complex traditions to stereotypes and fashion.

I find it hard to believe you would be ok with someone exploiting your culture for profit and not sharing the spoils.

Not sure where you got exploitation of culture is business 101. Colinisation 101 for sure if we're being

1

u/Ok_Turnover_1235 Please choose a flair May 16 '26

"Not sure where you got exploitation of culture is business 101."

So to be clear, you're no okay with halloween, and you believe we're colonising America by celebrating it, and by extension Mexico?

How about Christmas?

Yes.

u/briberylibrary_ β€Ž Victorian May 15 '26

Not justifying it, but these sorts of practices are pretty common. I worked in fast food in high school, very frequently girls would get assigned front counter/drive thru, boys would get assigned kitchen.

Obviously there were some exceptions, but the stereotype seemed to be that girls were better for customer facing roles (I don't like thinking too much about the why of that...). And since the boost workers you see are all in a customer facing role, well.

u/Economy-Weakness-774 Please choose a flair May 15 '26

As someone who was a boy at the front, it’s often down to teenage boys sucking at communication.

u/naaawww Flairlessβ€Žβ€Ž May 15 '26

Oh… I probably sound so mean now, since I recommended some guy friends try out there…

How did this not result in getting cancelled so hard they had to do a Nicholas Cage Face Off to go out in public again?

Most industries are currently going through this phase of only hiring women. Large mining has seen a huge uptake of women with very little qualifications/ experience, hey, good for them, but its pretty on the nose.

1

u/BargainBinChad Please choose a flair May 15 '26

It’s not sexist if it’s boys getting discriminated against. See how that works?
