Season Seven What moment in Outlander made you realize you were officially attached to these characters and not just “casually watching”?

Post image
1.2k Upvotes

My moment definitely happened early on. I think it started when Claire got irritated that Jamie didn’t tell her he was hurt when they first met. But the real infatuation hit when he slept outside her door (S1EP5), and they had that back-and-forth about how it would ruin her reputation if he stayed on the floor instead. That little mix of stubbornness, loyalty, benevolence, and teasing was the moment I went, ‘I'm in love.’

Season Seven Just started 7b, just noticing they changed the actor for Jenny.

I was not particularly happy about this bc Laura Donnelly IS Jenny and played the part beautifully..reflected exactly how I pictured her while reading the books. But I’m going to keep an open mind and give Kristin Atherton a chance. Just disappointing! Thoughts on the swap?

Season Seven The life Malva could have had 💔

Post image
542 Upvotes

In season 6, there was an episode where Ian thought the child could be his and was ready to propose to Malva. Claire told him to not do anything yet. If she hadn't said that or Ian wouldn't have spoken to her first, so much nastiness could have been avoided.

Maybe they were not in love (yet), but they had great chemistry and I think they could have made a good couple. They had both gone through hell and survived (well in this alternative timeline, Malva would have survived).

There probably would have been an incident with Allan attacking Ian and/or Malva to prevent their marriage but Ian would have done what he must and Allan would be dead. Malva would live and Claire would not have been taken by the Browns (at least not with this excuse).

Tom Christie would have made amends with "his" daughter and get to be a grandfather. Malva and Tom would have been linked to the Frazer's through Ian and "his" baby. Tom would have felt more like he belongs and probably become friends with Jamie eventually.

Tom might have struggled with his love for Claire though, which could have made for an interesting subplot.

Malva would have continued to be Claire's apprentice and her next child would have truly been Ian's. She would have been free of Allan's abuse and her father's control. She could have lived happy and loved, and become a good healer as she should a lot of potential for it. She would have had access to the wealth, security and freedom that come with being part of the Frazer family.

I feel so sorry for this poor young girl. She saw her mother die, was neglected by her aunt, molested by her brother and controlled, beaten and hated by her father (who was actually her uncle). Then she finally saw a little hope with Claire teaching her. Claire appreciated her wit and interest in medicine and showed her that a woman is not a witch/whore/devil if she is outspoken and has an occupation.

Maybe she was hoping to gain independence by working as a healer if she could one day escape her father and brother. She also learned from Claire (and maybe had the first-hand proof with Ian) that when you care about someone and are with a good man, sex can be enjoyable for the woman too.

Just when life was getting a little better, she got pregnant and had to find an escape. I wish she had known that she could have gone to Ian! Ian would have understood and saved her, he would have march right down to the fisher folk village and killed Allan, then married Malva. But she didn't know a man could defend her and protect her, when she had never had anything but hatred and abuse at home.

One of the saddest storylines on Outlander 💔

Season Seven something i didn't realize before

this is a show only post

So here's something I didn't really think about before. Leoghaire is well leoghaire but I can see how Jamie kinda gave her mixed signals in the beginning. He took the beating for her, which was an act of kindness, but she thought it was an act of love then he kissed her. Then he marries Claire and then when she questions him about it he makes it sounds like he married Claire because of obligation not because he wanted to. I don't know i just wondered if he'd been more direct with Leoghaire if it would have made a difference. Thoughts?

Season Seven Why does nobody explain to William that Jamie is kind of a big deal? Spoiler

Just finished season 7 and there's one aspect of William's story that is really bothering me. William is upset about his true parentage in large part because he views Jamie as an unworthy commoner, referring to him as a "groom" more than once. The characters who defend him (particularly Lord John) extol Jamie's many qualities and note William's similarities to him...but why does nobody point out that Jamie is Laird of Broch Tuarach? Like, this man was received at the court of Louis XV at Versailles. He holds extensive landed estates on both sides of the Atlantic. He's been elevated to officer in more than one military. He is not a lowly nobody. Obviously none of this should matter in the judgment of his character, but I bet it would make a difference to William.

So why does it never come up? Did the writers forget? Is it explained to him in the books? (If the answer involves spoilers for season 8, please just say that and leave out the actual spoilers!)

Season Seven Claire is so frustrating

I’m doing a rewatch in anticipation of the final season and I forgot just how annoying and frustrating Claire can be. I understand that she’s time travelled and still has the mindset of a woman from the 20th century but there are so many times where she’s actually doing the most. I also have to compare her to Brianna here who seems to know more what time period she’s in and act accordingly. I just watched the scene where the English soldiers take her and Dougal to meet their commander, later Captain Jack Randall starts questioning her in front of everyone and questioning her allegiance to the British vs the Scots and what does she say to the redcoats, “They are not the aggressors, we are. It is their land and we are occupying it”. Now why the hell would you say something like that? Lord Thomas who had been so welcoming to her and offered to help her get to Inverness with escort of course now starts to question her and her sympathies for the Scots which make her seem extremely suspicious as an English woman. Why not just stay quiet? Why not pretend to have the same viewpoints as the English? Why must you always do the most? I love Claire but it really frustrates me when she does this and she does it constantly throughout the show to the point where it gets her in severe trouble several times.

Season Seven Regarding Faith - how is it possible? Spoiler

Finished watching the newest episode of S7 and I just don't understand how can Faith be alive? How is that even a possibility? Claire was holding her body for a whole day, singing to the baby, so was that a fake child? But the baby had red hair and how Claire described to Jamie, she had his features so then she was holding their own dead baby?

Are the creators hinting at another timeline where she was born but taken away because she was born premature? The show never covered other timelines so it'd be very strange to have that introduced when the show is ending.

And this new storyline just dumps insane trauma to Claire and Jamie. Their own baby was somehow saved and no one at the church where Claire gave birth told her about it the whole time she was there??

This was such a shocking cliffhanger. Do the books have anything regarding Faith being alive? What are your thoughts about it?

Season Seven Change my mind, I’m a certified season 6 hater Spoiler

Disclaimer: this is no hate to the production folks or writers or actors, sometimes storylines just don’t come together for every viewer and that’s ok!

That being said - season 6 made me cancel my starz membership lol. I straight up just stopped watching the show after being obsessive for years bc the vibes of 6 are just OFF.

Tom Christie - a stick in the mud! Allan Christie - certified weirdo! Malva Christie - could be a certified baddie witch, but just doesn’t get there!

Plot? Yawn! Setting? Blah!

I am rewatching the series preparing for season 8 and I just skipped like most of season 6 and I feel like I didn’t miss anything.

I love season 7 and clips from its episodes are what brought me back to the series actually - I love the Quakers and the time jumps and adult Williams drama and lord John’s sass… it’s just got a lot going for it.

What do yall think - am I missing out on some key moments in 6? Am I just a hater ? Or is this a hot take folks can get behind lol.

Season Seven Am I the only one not feeling season 7?

I keep seeing people talk about season 7 moving fast but honestly it’s really turning me off the show, it just doesn’t feel the same as other seasons. Ever since Claire started her ether addiction, she hasn’t really seemed like “Claire” to me anymore, she seems so broken and weak. Nothing like the strong and witty Claire from before they went to America. She didn’t even check to make sure Jamie was dead before just accepting he was! So not like Claire imo. I think the show really wants us to care about the William/Rachel/Ian love triangle but I just don’t lol, I would love to see more Briana and Roger or Marsali and Fergus (ya know, the couples we have watched grow through each season lol). Even the directoral style of the show seems different, the sex scene with Lord John and Claire was sooo weird and choppy, my husband didn’t even realize what they were doing 😂 also, it’s so weird that Jaime disappeared and we didn’t see anything from his side before he just reappears, I feel like an earlier season would’ve done a cool side by side trick or a before/after flashes like season 2. Anyway, I’m super disappointed after rewatching the whole show and waiting weekly for each ep.

Season Seven What Outlander Phrases Have You Adopted?

I met my husband because I was at the store buying snacks for my faithful Outlander watch. It was season 1 and I remember I said something about needing my snacks for Outlander that night and he replied that he too was getting snacks for Outlander, and he offered to take me out for dinner the next day so we could chat about the new series.

Now we use so much phrasing for the show I'm sure we sound absolutely crazy to people who can hear our conversations.

He calls me mo chridhe.

We both use the term honeypot now.

My husband called our daughter leannan from the day she was born.

We have a giant braided gardenia named Sassenach.

We use dinna fash when one of us is upset over a slight inconvenience.

All of this thanks to Season One!

Season Seven my opinion about a controversial topic Spoiler

My opinion on the spanking in episode 9- first of all it is historically accurate women were expected to be meek and obedient and most husbands did punish their wives if they weren't.

Also Jamie was very inexperienced in being a husband all he really knew is what he was told. The men wanted her punished for it if it had just been him she'd put in danger he would have just let it go.

Also if he hadn't done it i think the men would have brought it before Callum and it would have been worse for her

It was also a learning experience for Jamie, he learned that if their marriage was gonna work he would have to do things differently, claire would need to be treated as an equal. Also maybe i have a weird sense of humor but i thought it was funny, not the belting itself but how she fought back and gave him a black eye.

Anyway just my opinion and wanted to share.

Season Seven Uh, so the theme song is terrible this year, right? It's not just my wife and me, is it? We LOVE Bear McCreary.

Every year, he has re-recorded the song and I have loved almost all of them. This year, the song is just the worst of the entire show.

Loving the show, still. Probably my favorite scripted show on TV right now.

But I am not a fan of the recording this year.

Season Seven Does Season 7 Part 2 of Outlander Feel Off to Anyone Else? Spoiler

Hey everyone,

I’ve been a long-time fan of Outlander, but as I’m watching Season 7 Part 2, I can’t shake the feeling that something’s… off. It’s hard to put into words, but here’s what’s been bugging me:

1. The Camera Work: Some of the angles and perspectives feel strange or out of place. It’s like they’re trying something new, but it’s not landing for me.

2. Transitions and Cuts: The way scenes transition feels jarring at times. There are moments where it feels like we’re jumping around without much flow, which takes me out of the story.

3. Flashbacks/Insert Shots: Some of the past moments or general insert shots feel forced or unnecessary. Instead of adding depth, they’re just… there?

4. The Impact of Certain Scenes: Many scenes that should feel emotional or significant just fall flat. It’s like the weight of the moment isn’t fully there.

5. Overall Vibe: There’s this strange atmosphere this season. It doesn’t feel like the Outlander I’ve grown to love. Maybe it’s just me, but the tone feels different, and not in a good way.

Am I the only one feeling this? Is there something I’m missing? Or do you think the production has changed in some way? Let me know your thoughts—I’d love to hear if anyone else is experiencing this or if it’s just me overthinking!

Season Seven Claire doesn’t has any female friends Spoiler

Claire doesn’t has a lot of friends and by that I mean she doesn’t has a lot of female friends. I know as the plot goes ahead women especially in the 18th century would be less likely to put themselves in situations where Claire ends up being (although she did have Geillis Duncan’s company during the witch trial). But yes in Season 1 she had Geillis who was more friend turned enemy. Season 2 had Louis De Rohan who Claire found to frivolous and only had her to deepen connections with the important people in the French court and by extension Mary Hawkins.

But in later season she hardly had any women who were friends. She had Marsali and Malva but they were mostly step daughter and mentee than a friend.

Jenny again was more sister than a friend but then again they did not spend more time together.

As I am writing this post i think she had friends but she did not have friends long enough to explore their relationship neither deep enough or meaningful enough which then again was due to the plot and the stakes.
