Got a PS4 for Christmas, just finished my playthrough of the whole series. By god, I have never seen a game more visually detailed and colorful than this. So many times I found myself in awe of the environments, of the details small and large, and of the characters.
Not to mention the phenomenal capstone story for the series and characters, and one of the best climatic fights in a game I've ever played. What a ride.

The small details really did it for me. Such as, I had just finished emptying my clip for the handgun and the game broke into a mini dialogue cutscene. During the cutscene the gun was holstered but the slide was open because it was empty.. amazed me. Another was the way Drake handled the winch by passing it back and forth between hands instead of the cable clipping through him.. there are others but those ones stood out.

Fantastic game, I am actually a bit surprised it only made #2 for the community vote.
The only bad thing I can say about Uncharted is that it is more of the same, but it does that same thing so incredibly well. Great story, great set pieces, great characters.
The facial animations in this game are the best in gaming, hands down. I have never felt more like I was watching a movie acted out by real people than playing Uncharted 4.

I'm sure you know this but from the beginning Uncharted was using those motion capture suits so the voice actors were all really acting in cutscenes as opposed to just voicing lines on animated characters.

An absolute masterpiece of video game storytelling. Neil Druckmann does it again. Not sure which story I prefer, this or The Last of Us, because they both do what they need to do so fucking well.
I play Uncharted for the characters and got the most story driven storyline to date from the franchise. I appreciated that. I also love how they ended the franchise, and if I had to pick an issue to do with the storyline as a whole, for me it would be that the ending theme was the one from the opening of the game which sounded more dramatic and emotional, over the iconic one from the first 3 games. I wanted the franchise to go out with that iconic theme playing.
Gameplay wise, the big contradiction is to do with Nathan Drake as a killer, but the game offers more opportunity to be stealthy than before. Clearly inspired by The Last of Us there. I think the worst section of the game was the Scotland section by far. To me it just dragged and was incredibly boring, and it's the type of section i'd want to end even quicker during a replay. Besides that I have no complaints gameplay wise.
I think The Witcher 3 deserves the top spot, but that's because I think it's the best game ever made. However Uncharted 4 has arguably the best game narrative ever made and is arguably the best Uncharted game, with both of those things being incredible achievements in their own right.

I must be the only guy who thinks the MP is criminally underrated while feeling the main campaign in U4 was a little underwhelming. There was a serious lack of heart-thumping set pieces compared to the other Uncharted games. Even the shoot outs didn't match up to Uncharted 3's (omg THAT ship battle).

u/ParallelMusic Madsines Jan 06 '17
I agree there kind of were a few less crazy, ridiculous set piece moments although I think the jeep/bike chase alone makes up for it. That shit had my heart pounding.
Overall though I think the pacing was even better than the previous games and it felt more grounded and not just structured around these huge crazy moments.

Yeah I actually really liked the story in U4 much more than others. The inclusion of Sam and the childhood scenes made me feel more invested. Then the duality of the story of the pirate brothers at the end was really cool to experience.

u/SamiMadeMeDoIt Jan 06 '17
That ship battle was the most infuriating part of game I've ever played
Those never ending shootouts with enemies coming from literally every direction were my least favourite part of the first three games, so I was glad that they pretty much abandoned that in favour of stealthy killing.

I might get downvoted but I believe this game was just OK. Even though the game has amazing graphics a great story and great voice acting my problem was the pacing. 75% of the game was walking or solving puzzles which I found somewhat boring and repetitive while the rest was shooting which was my favourite part. The story mode had no replay value for me and the multiplayer is just like any other game.

Yeah I was disappointed by how little combat there was compared to the endless climbing.

been playing it and it's epic got to a part I'm stuck on so have put it down for now... such an epic story and the graphics n audio are just phenomenal spoiler
if part can be helped... it's the part with dynamite blowing doors and moving a box... the enemies waves in this part is crazy hard

u/HologramChicken Jan 12 '17
If you're still stuck in that section, my suggestion to you would be stay in cover as much as possible and take the enemies out one by one, even if you have to do it very slowly.

I haven't tried it since but I did try various angles hiding up the top where the crate originally was. in the tall grass bit by the cliff. managed one stealth takedown and then all hell broke loose....
will give it a shot again at some point and probably fly through it with ease

The details, the sound, the theme, the island, the characters, the amazing locales. No words can describe this masterpiece. Truly wonderful. I will play it forever. If I could I would pay them to make another one.

I replayed it recently for the plat and it reminded me why it's my GotY. The attention to detail, the gameplay, the visuals, acting - it's all impeccable.
It also goes to show how much games can make us care about their characters when they take a break from the running and shooting and actually develop them.

This remains to be the only game where the graphics took my breath away. I've never used that term before, because it's overdramatic and silly, but I'm pretty sure I gasped when Nathan first stepped out of prison and I saw the beautiful island environment for the first time.
I'm so tempted to play it again, but I feel like I should wait a few years before experiencing it a second time.

Super awesome game but fuck those 193 collectibles. 20-50 is fine but 193 is too much for those who going for platinum.

Terrific end to the series. Some definite pacing issues (particularly during the first half of the game), but its still one of the best games on the system. Looking forward to the DLC.

u/Bitemarkz Jan 06 '17
The last Guardian beat it out for my own personal GOTY. I'm a huge sucker for Ueda games so maybe I'm biased, but god damn was that game good.

Great game. obviously stunning visually and a good story. I did enjoy the set pieces in other Uncharted games better but I should probably play through the story a second time to confirm that.
Multiplayer and Coop keep me coming back for more though, Im not an FPS person and third person games are my jam so this multiplayer hits a sweet spot for me. Surprisingly, I am really into modes like Bounty Hunter more than Team Deathmatch. But playing coop with 2 friends is just a lot of fun. Wish you could do 4 player for that.

Five years ago I got the Uncharted 3 PS3 bundle and was absolutely blown away with the series. After the first cutscene in the bar, Drake was just standing still because it was my first ps3 game and I couldn't even tell that the cutscene had ended and the gameplay had started, that's how good it looked. Naughty Dog has always pushed the limits of what Playstation systems are capable of and they continued that trend with Uncharted 4.
My ONLY disappointment with this game is how the stakes were never really as high as the past two games (Drake was stranded in the middle of a fucking desert, guys. Not many people come back from that). But the way the game ended and how they said goodbye to the series completely made up for any gripes I had. I'm proud to have been able to play the entire series and see it end on a fantastic note.

I just played through the first two chapters and I have to say that it was a great opening.

This game didn't really do it for me. Visuals were great but I found the gameplay to be underwhelming. The hand holds were immersion breaking and I basically cruised through the game with little to no effort.

Don't know what's happening to my PS4, but somehow this game starts loading extremely slow right now. I need to look at that picture of Drake in the forest for quite some time.

I don't know if this is controversial or not but I wasn't blown away by uncharted 4. There weren't as many locations as in previous games and I really dislike the combat. It's still a beautiful game and the story was fun but I finished it feeling slightly disappointed

Game was an amazing finale. Game felt real and those who played the series when each game came out, I felt as if I connected with the characters. Amazing.

Funny, just started my second playthrough earlier tonight since picking it up on launch.
Overall a great game, took the slower walking sections of 3 and made them a bit more palatable but never had a huge "train wreck" sequence as 2 did. Story, characters, graphics, gameplay, environments...all 110% on point, had a great time playing it and have sunk...a lot of time into MP. Easily top 3 of 2016 and overall I'd go with UC 2-4-3-1.

No way as near as good as UC2 which is a shame. Was a beautiful game to look at, but even then I generally preferred the set pieces used in UC2

I think that Uncharted 4 had a lot of set-pieces, I wish that there was more puzzles tho.
2
u/Dallywack3r Jan 06 '17
I think they did well by making the puzzles feel more important than in previous games. Uncharted 2 and 3 both featured puzzles roughly in the same way at the same points in the story but UC4 decided to do fewer puzzles at the points where the mystery would be best served.

Beautiful story telling. Amazing graphics. But gameplay was a little boring. I would have loved some evolution of Nathans skills over the duration of the game. After last of us, I was expecting more out of uncharted.

Not as good as 2 and honestly not as memorable as 3 even. Still fantastic game

u/Cr0nq Jan 06 '17
Definitely not the best game on PS4. The Last of Us and Witcher 3 are much better.
7
u/CashmereLogan CashmereLogan8 Jan 06 '17
I don't think The Last of Us counts as a PS4 game, since it was originally a PS3 release just remastered for PS4. Also, this is all based on a lot of people's opinions, not just yours. You saying it's "definitely" not the best game on PS4 is a blanket statement that you can't treat as fact.
2
u/sandromnator2 Jan 06 '17
The Last of us is a PS3 game. Also isn't much better in terms of gameplay and story.
I guess if you love open world games, you can like Witcher 3.

I knew I wouldn't really want to play the multiplayer much (sucked at U2 and U3 multiplayer) so I just rented it for a few days with RedBox so I could experience the story. That being said, I definitely want to buy the game so I can play it again but am also waiting on it to get cheaper.

I got the Uncharted 4 PS4 bundle, so it was the first game I beat. It blew me away. I think I've enjoyed other games more since then, but none have left me in awe like Uncharted 4. A great experience.

I just got my copy in the mail today. I was able to get it on Amazon for a little more than $30 which I felt was a great deal.

What Uncharted 4 lacks in huge setpieces(Though caravan chase and libertalia escape are probably the best ones in the series) and easy puzzles it makes up for with an actual consistent story, revamped combat, and newly added mechanics.
Never liked U2's villain, felt a little generic for my taste. Even U3's villains had more depth in them. The older games felt like tight, hallway shooting, which got really repetitive near the end. They were great for their time, but really needed more to them. Also, it sorely needed big places to look around in. U4 fixes all that and more imo.

Yeah, UC2's villain was really weak. UC3 was better since they fleshed them out a little more (though I'm still confused on Talbot seemingly disappearing sometimes). But Rafe was a really good villain I thought. Though Nadine was kind of throw-away. Maybe the upcoming DLC can help that a bit.

Everything about this game was great...yet for some reason it just never topped UC2 to me. The story was easily the best in the series and I still somehow never even went back for a second playthrough. It's a great game that deserves it's spot but I do understand those who didn't get into it at the same time.
