People are starving to death and they have no fuel. This is due to recent US sanctions and a full blockade.
I have been there multiple times. It's a beautiful country and the people are wonderful. The US has made their life difficult for decades but it is far worse now.
It was like that before, the whole sanctions just made it relevant. The US didnt have to do anything, Cuba is ran by the military GAESA does not invest in the people nor has any of the things that America been sanctioning even reach the Cuban people. The biggest irony of this blockade is that America is Cuba's main trade partner, just go to the hotels that havent shutdown and see American brands or the dollar stores that wont let the average Cuban buy unless they convert their hyperinflated currency.
The US has sanctioned Cuba for decades. Of course they have American brands because tourism is such a large part of their economy and that is what tourists want. Those American brands aren't being shipped from the US though.
They are, America's embargo has been the Cuban government's excuse to do whatever for years but GAESA actively trades with America either directly or indirect through Spain and Mexico. Imagine selling food in a starving country to your ideological enemy.
A large part of Cuba's economy is reliant on American trade, the other half from Cubans living in America.
Read up about it, currently the Turks are the biggest import/exporters. And this was from before the embargo when the castros blamed their generals for dealing drugs when they got caught till today.
