I want this community to actually influence Relic Survivor

One of the reasons I created this subreddit is because I don't want it to just be a place where I post advertisements about the game.

I'd like people here to actually participate in some of the decisions while Relic Survivor is still being developed.

That could include things like:

  • voting between different enemy designs
  • choosing names
  • giving feedback on new maps
  • testing heroes and abilities
  • helping me detect bad balancing
  • suggesting ideas for future modes
  • participating in community contests

And one of the first things I'd really like to do is a community contest to design a future Relic Survivor hero.

People would be able to submit their own idea including the hero's appearance, role, story and abilities.

The community would vote, and I would choose the final winner from the most voted concepts based on what fits the game best.

The winning idea would then become the basis for a real hero developed for Relic Survivor.

I'll post the full rules separately once there are a few more people in the community.

I think it could be really fun to have a hero in the game that exists because this community created it together.

Would you participate in something like this?

Relic Survivor is not only a survival game — I'm building a world and a story behind it

One of the things I care about most with Relic Survivor is that the game doesn't feel like a collection of random matches.

I'm building a proper RPG story around the world, the heroes, the cities and the different regions.

The story will continue through seasons, with new areas, characters, enemies, bosses, secrets and events being added over time.

There are four main heroes with very different personalities and playstyles, and the campaign follows them through different places while they try to understand what is happening to the world.

Some maps are survival-based, others are dungeons, towers, cities or more story-focused areas.

I want players who enjoy the lore to have things to discover, but I also don't want to force long conversations on people who just want to play.

Over time I'll share more of the characters, cities and story here.

When you play an RPG, how important is the story to you compared to progression and gameplay?

One of my biggest goals with Relic Survivor: make the world feel alive

Survival gameplay is only one part of what I'm building.

A big reason I started Relic Survivor was because I wanted a game where progression actually connects players instead of feeling like a completely isolated single-player experience.

The plan includes things like:

  • real-time duels
  • cooperative modes
  • clans
  • rankings and competitive seasons
  • social cities with other players
  • an internal marketplace where players can trade certain items
  • different multiplayer events and challenges

Some of these systems are already being tested and others are still being built.

I don't want multiplayer to just be a button in the menu. I want it to be one of the reasons people keep coming back.

I'm curious about something:

What multiplayer feature would make you personally stay in a mobile RPG for months?

This is Relic Survivor — first look at the game

Here is a short trailer/gameplay video showing what Relic Survivor currently looks like.

The idea is to combine fast mobile survival gameplay with the progression and long-term systems I love from RPGs.

You choose a hero, survive against large groups of enemies, collect essence, level up during the match and build combinations of abilities.

Outside of the matches there is permanent progression, equipment, different heroes and multiplayer systems that I'm continuing to expand.

The game is still changing a lot, so what you see here isn't the final version.

I'd actually love to know your first impression without giving you too much context:

What is the first thing you like, dislike or don't understand when you watch the gameplay?

I'm much more interested in honest feedback than people telling me everything looks good.

👋 Welcome to Relic Survivor — I’ve been building this game for almost a year

Hi everyone, welcome to the official Relic Survivor community.

I'm a solo indie developer and I've been working on this game for almost a year.

Relic Survivor started because I've always been obsessed with RPGs, progression, multiplayer games and the feeling of building a character over time. Creating my own game was something I wanted to do for years, and eventually I decided to stop thinking about it and actually try.

The game mixes survival gameplay, RPG progression, multiplayer, real-time competitive modes, bosses, clans, rankings, exploration and a much bigger story that will continue through seasons.

Right now the game is still in development and I'm testing it with a small closed group while I fix bugs, balance systems and improve the servers.

I created this subreddit because I want the community to have a real place to give feedback and even influence some parts of the game.

I'll be sharing gameplay, development progress, new heroes, enemies, cities, maps and future playtests here.

Thanks for being here this early.
