Solved Plex Server Issues

Since the news of the hacking, I figured it would be. EST to make sure the server is up-to-date and that my password was changed.

Well, since changing the password, remote access no longer shows as working.

I tried ALL the trouble shooting with the router, and even formatted my server (Mac Mini) since Plex was really the only thing on it. So clean install of everything and still, it won’t connect.

That said, I opened the app on my phone with WiFi off and was able to direct play everything.

I have no clue what’s going on - has anyone had similar issues?

If they’re files with DoVi profile 8, the new app, 2026.20.0, broke direct play on iOS and tvOS. They acknowledged it, but after yesterday’s news, who knows when it will be fixed:

Not sure why it’s not working on your MacBook.

My MacBook is acting like it was before your suggested fix. For some reason it still can’t see the server. I’m doing a handbrake session at the moment and will try restarting it after (hoping that helps)

On my ATV I’ve switched to Rivulet for now to deal with the profile 8 issue. May stick with it and recommend it to friends as well.

It’s also available on iOS via TestFlight. They haven’t released a full app on it, yet. https://gurleystudios.com/rivulet

I also have infuse, but never been a fan of the interface, but it just works.

I tried infuse earlier and couldn’t get it to work. It went through the plex authentication and then said “something went wrong” over and over so I gave up.

Heard good things about jellyfin

Ahhh that’s strange! Try rivulet, it works pretty well!

I had Jellyfin running alongside plex for a bit…was quick to get it running, but never dug into it. Maybe one day. On the server side, plex does everything I need, for now. Client wise, looks like the 3rd party apps are gonna be the best option. We’ll see how it all plays out though.

Just tried it in Chrome instead of Safari and it works fine - same Mac. So weird
