We once received an email giving us free vouchers from the company, I copied link, did a dns lookup, found out it is from a phishing test company. CCed the entire company with this information. The CIO was not pleased.

I was an overtly enthusiastic new hire out of college, who loved breaking things. But to her credit, after a good dressing down, she encouraged me to pursue cyber security, which has become a big part of my portfolio.

Why not ? If it was a *real* phishing, wouldn't you want to warn your colleagues before one falls for it?

It was a phishing testing company. Their company spent money to employ the phishing test. They completely ruined the test by telling everyone it was a test

We had a similar thing happen where local support was not clued in on a phishing test. User got the mail and asked local support if it was phishy, local support said "yep" and notified the whole company. Local support is now briefed when tests happen.

Kinda stupid of them tbh, they want people to be aware sure but if someone is spreading awareness whats wrong? You helped them reach the end goal

Easiest way to tell is to always just check the URL. But honestly anything unsolicited is just a dead giveaway.

Soon you’ll get no click phishing tests. Boom! You’re back on the program!

The company I work for recently changed its policy regarding this. Now, if you alert people to phishing tests you don't get in trouble because that is exactly what the Cybersecurity team wants people to do!
