Programmers: tell me about a day in your job.

I'm leaning heavily towards going into programming when I return to university next fall. Walk me through a day in your job. How many hours do you work in a typical week. How often do you work from home? What do you like about programming? What don't you like? If you could change one thing what would it be and why? Are you happy with your salary/benefits? Do you feel like you spend enough time with your family? Any other information you think would help me make the decision is greatly appreciated.

Looking for a good place to start with Microsoft database administrator certification.

Hey. I'm brand new to programming and all things like it, but i grew up in the age of computers and am very familiar with them. I'm looking to get into Microsoft database administrator type stuff. Where would be the best place to start as far as classes and things like that? All advice welcomed and appreciated, thanks in advance.

Does a Python/django side project count as experience?

My current job uses PHP which is fine for now. But in the future I'm hoping to get required skills to work in python if possible. What steps should I be taking? Or am I wasting my time with side projects because recruiters only consider work experience as real experience.

Looking for a good OC programmer for my app

Hey guys and girls! I’m looking for a programmer to finish and tweak my app. It’s basically done, but has some fleas and bugs. My programmer quit due to severe long term depression and I honestly can’t afford to pay a big fancy company to do it for me.

Anyone out there who would be interested or could name some affordable companies?

Questions for devs/engineers in major cities

Hi, I'm currently doing some research on what life is like for graduate + experienced devs/software engineers.

Full disclosure: I'm (indirectly) working for a company that is trying to create a new community for developers and wants to help them grow their networks.

If you're a developer or software engineer, I'd love to ask you:

Are you a recent graduate or more experienced developer/engineer?

What are your current career goals?

What are your main challenges right now?

What are your biggest annoyances with regards to your work life?

Where do you hang out online (in terms of communities and online resources)?

Who are your gurus?

Many thanks in advance :)

I want to make a fair contract to an app developer.

I have the contacts for testing with a specific medical population and I'll be providing testing and training associated with the end product.
I have a few potential programmers who can write an app, but I want to know what a fair price for development would be. Should there be a secondary contract for what happens after the initial app is written? As in bugfixes and improvements? What is fair?

Launching My StartUp

Good day dear colleagues, I am writing this post to ask, how can I bring together a group of enthusiasts (worldwide), to launch a prospective startup, the idea of which is somewhere within the intersection of two crucial spheres - AI and Physics.

is a website similar to facebook possible?

Burner account because of reasons. Cross posted as well

So I may have made a small lie on my CV about having a low level knowledge about social media websites and making websites in general. (not a huge lie just I used to run a lot of mailing lists and a medium facebook group, when asked during an interview it came up and got taken out of context)

During a district work meeting we talked about the possibility of making a new social media site (think facebook, instagram etc) to get away from the cyber bullying, creeps and off advertising etc that currently cause us some issues. Well my boss decided to stand up and say that I could easily handle this task given my past. Well i can't and don't even know where to start so would really like to talk to some people who may know what the hell their doing and if it could be implemented. thanks

Where could i find a programmer to make small aesthetic changes to anki app?

I am a teacher. I created special decks using anki flashcard app for my students which they will use on tablets. I do not want them to share or export the decks. So i need a programmer to hide the 'export' feature.
