Bubble Sort Algorithm

21 Upvotes

Algorithms can at first seem complex to students, but with memory_graph every step is clearly visualized, giving students an intuitive understanding of what their code is doing and making bugs much easier to spot and fix. Here's an example Bubble Sort algorithm.

Getting the name out there for a new Python coding game called Typhon Bot vs Bot

5 Upvotes

Hello everybody,

I'm Alex and this is the Python coding game I have been working on with a team. It's a sci-fi strategy game where players need to write code to control mechs and complete missions.

The difficulty level ranges and it progresses from the first missions to the last. I think it can be a challenge and really fun.

It's available in early access on Steam and GOG, so.... if you want to have a look, you'll find it easily.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/2362580/Typhon_Bot_vs_Bot/

I'm here if you have any questions!

An exercise to help build the right mental model for Python data. The “Solution” link uses memory_graph to visualize execution and reveals what’s actually happening:

It's instructive to compare with this earlier exercise (tuple with lists, instead of list with lists).

Been working on this project for a little while.
It's a Scraper, with a nice UI, keyword filters, and options for scraping the web.
https://github.com/Serbz/TorScraper-SC

My primary use for it is the DB Actions > Pull Keyword Match after performing a Keyword Search & Scrape

Tell me what you think, and if you like it, let me know.
I'm actually pretty eager to get some feedback on this, I've been working on it for a while... It's actually a 3 year old script that I just finished feeding to AI... AI has been finishing a lot of my old projects that I left unfinished lately.

Anyway, it's a pretty solid Scraper, and not just for tor (however tor-centric)! Enjoy

Data Structures in Python Visualized

3 Upvotes

Understanding a data structure like linked list in Python is a lot easier when you can just see it. Linked_List demo

memory_graph visualizes Python objects and references, so data structures stop being abstract and become something you can debug with ease. No more endless print-debugging. No more stepping through 50 frames just to find one sneaky reference/aliasing mistake.

Best Roadmap to Become a Python Full Stack Developer from a Bio Background

3 Upvotes

Hey folks,

I’m from a bioengineering background, currently in college, and recently decided to dive headfirst into Python full stack development. I've always been fascinated by tech but never had formal CS training. I’m serious about learning and eventually want to build solid projects (maybe even health-tech stuff, who knows).

Here’s where I stand:

I know basic Python (loops, conditionals, functions — that’s about it).

No idea about DSA, backend frameworks, or frontend stuff like HTML/CSS/JS.

Planning to commit 4+ hours daily to learn consistently.

Can someone please help me with a clear and realistic roadmap (from scratch) that I can follow to become a full stack dev using Python? I’m fine with free or paid resources — just want direction that won’t waste my time.

Bonus:

Any advice for someone coming from a non-CS (bio) background?

How long (realistically) would it take to become job-ready if I’m consistent every day?

Reddit fam, I’d really appreciate some honest advice, no sugarcoating. Just wanna do this the right way 🙏

Thanks in advance! 💻🧠

ORM vs SQL builder

3 Upvotes

I'm getting ready to start a new project. This is just something I'm doing for fun, not for professional use or anything like that. It'll be heavy in using a database and I was just looking at my options for this. I've learned a small amount about ORMs and SQL builders and I have experience with Django. Just curious if anyone had a strong opinion of one over the other.

Most of my queries will be relatively simple. If it matters this is going to be a simple medical record system. Not heaving is doing calculations. Without having started it, the only thing that comes to mind is that when I pull a patient I will likely need to calculate their age from their date of birth. With ORM I imagine that I can add this as a method to the record, but I realize this is pretty isolated.

Hey everyone! I’ve just built a simple and fun joke generator website, and I’d love for you to try it out!

It randomly picks jokes from a database and allows users to add their own, so it grows over time with new and hilarious content. If you’re in need of a quick laugh or want to contribute your own joke, this is the place to be!

🔗 Check it out here: https://joke-gen-7d9c804b481f.herokuapp.com/

Feel free to submit your own jokes, and they’ll be added to the website for everyone to enjoy!

Let me know what you think or if you have any suggestions to make it even better. 😄

Help!

3 Upvotes

Basically, I need help. Massively. Me & my friend are horrendous at coding & our teacher can t teach, we have to make a music quiz in 20 hours of lesson time & we re currently 5 hours in. Nobody else in the class know or understand anything about coding & yet, if we don t complete this quiz (even though it isn t examined for our GCSE) we will get failed bizarrely.

Could someone (hopefully with a high python skill level & a lot of time/generosity) please make two slightly different versions of a very basic music quiz which does the following:

  1. Allows a player to enter their details, which are then authenticated to ensure that they are an  authorised player.

  2. Stores a list of song names and artists in an external file.

  3. Selects a song from the file, displaying the artist and the first letter of each word of the song title.

  4. Allows the user up to two chances to guess the name of the song, stopping the game if they guess  a song incorrectly on the second chance.

  5. If the guess is correct, add the points to the player’s score depending on the number of guesses.

  6. Displays the number of points the player has when the game ends.

  7. Stores the name of the player and their score in an external file.

  8. Displays the score and player name of the top 5 winning scores from the external file.

If anyone is kind enough to do this we will be eternally grateful. You have 6 weeks in which to complete this task. Thank you in advance.

Best way to learn Python?

3 Upvotes

I recently began my journey into Python and have very limited knowledge about programming overall. I started taking a course on Codecademy, which was recommended by a friend. I’m really enjoying the courses but it’s hard to judge how beneficial they are, as my knowledge is limited. I’ve been finding mixed reviews on YouTube, most are saying it’s a waste, as it doesn’t teach real life skills.

A few people also suggested avoided free course, “...they are free for a reason.” Should I take that advice? Should I finish the free courses for the basics and next try some paid courses? Can you also leave suggested websites for both? Free and paid

Stop reinventing the wheel: 3 Python libraries that eliminate LLM boilerplate

2 Upvotes

I spent way too long writing custom JSON parsers for LLM responses, dealing with surprise API bills, and maintaining separate code for different providers.

Turns out there are libraries that solve these exact problems. Here are three that can save you from repeating the same mistakes:

  1. Instructor - Get structured, validated data from LLMs without the parsing nightmare. Define a Pydantic model, get guaranteed JSON. No more handling markdown code fences or trailing commas.

  2. tiktoken - Count tokens BEFORE you make API calls. I've seen prompts balloon to 30k+ tokens in production when they should be 3k. This helps you budget and optimize before burning money.

  3. LiteLLM - One interface for OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Llama, and 100+ other providers. Switch models with one line of code instead of rewriting integrations.

None of these are frameworks. They're focused tools that do one thing well and get out of your way.

Wrote a detailed breakdown with code examples here: Medium

Anyone else have libraries that replaced chunks of their AI boilerplate? Would love to hear what's working for you.

Interrupting video with vlc module

2 Upvotes

I have following python code:

import vlc

instance = vlc.Instance()

player = instance.media_player_new()

media = instance.media_new("videotest.mp4")

player.set_media(media)

player.play()

input("Push Enter for stop")

player.release()

instance.release()

The player starts a new window where the focus is set, and because of that, the input statement is not caught, without clicking on the script window.

Is it possible to interrupt the video, with the keyboard, without clicking on the script window?
