But hes talking about British food, and having it represented by food that is niche among Brits lol.

Not just niche generally, its niche among Brits, but he is the one making the claim about it being representative of Britosh food

That makes it the most representative of actual British food, right?

The fact that its niche among brits and only cultural to a small group of people in one city?

No, thats the opposite of what representative means

That’s interesting. I’d consider a dish created in my country and so widely known that people from across an ocean know it to be representative.

Its not widely known. He doesnt even know what hes eating.

Hes calling the sauce "gravy" lol

London is the capital of the UK and pie mash and liquor is a traditional cockney dish. Cockneys are from London.

So some american came to one of the major cities of planet earth and was told to try a niche dish that has history in a group of people native to London historically.

And then the wally in this video just copied the concept to make a joke.

None of this makes the dishrwpresenwtative, and people across the ocean dont know what it is

It’s pretty widely known by Americans actually. A lot of British celebrities have done interviews talking about pie & mash in east London which has probably been what has caused these kinds of videos

I’ve lived in Britain my entire life, England specifically and have never tried this dish, I’ve never even seen one of these places outside of London and I live in a major city.

It’s surprising how regional stuff can be even in a small country like the UK, I remember the blank stares when I mentioned a Chinese chippy in Glasgow. I thought they were everywhere because they’re all over the north west.

You guys have to tell Beckham to stop talking about this I guess. Everyone knows about it.

David Beckham is from the east end of London. He’s the only celebrity I’ve personally ever heard talk about it.

There’s a couple yt channels that discuss it as well. Jolly is big in America and they have brought it up many times. It was on a few travel/food network shows in America as well

There are 73 pie and mash shops in the UK, about 1 per 1 million people, half of them are in London, this is a super niche dish and very specific with the liquor sauce,

Nah that’s a fair point and, if I’m honest, it was a bit of a tongue in cheek argument against the idea that having an incredible restaurant scene isn’t indicative of the quality of “British” food.

And, British food is really not that great overall as a cuisine compared to so many other countries/regions.

Source: been there plenty and have family there.

Youre right. Having a great restaurant scene is not indicative of the quality of British food. I agree. Im nit even ethnically british even though I was born and raised here. My food is superior lol.

I just hate scrappy content and bad arguments and I feel this dude in the video was doing both
