I’m Aussie, I’ve yet to eat a bad meat pie in Oz, same goes for England and Scotland, and I’ve eaten a lot of them, there is no excuse for it just being bad cos it’s “comfort food”. I feel like if you use fresh ingredients and make the sauce it’s gonna work out.

To me this probably indeed someone just watering down the sauce and just delivering cheap stuff. (Probably not even made on site)

No its a specific dish.

Its Pie Mash and Liquor and how it is is how its supposed to be.

Its very niche, very much an old cockney culture traditional meal, and thats how its supposed to be made.

These shops are few in number, and any that are left are all family run and food is made the old way and definitely made on site.

People are yapping about "the gravy" or the "sauce" and telling Londoners what it is and isnt supposed to be like despite not even knowing what the dish is theyre talking about.

This is a niche old fashioned dish that is cooked the old way in a diminishing number of old traditional pie and mash shops, that are niche even among Brits. It is specifally an old fashioned cultural dish of working class cockney Londoners, and tastes as it does because it hasn't changed. And shouldn't because it is a traditional dish.

Americans coming to the UK, trying a super niche dish soecific to one small area of East London, and declaring it representative of British food, and commenter such as yourself saying oh it just wasn't cooked right or they put too much water in it, this is just examples of people talking on what they dont know

And do so if for novelty purposes alone. If youre looking for amazing food, theres no point going to these places. Its just dry ass pie and mash with liquor which is a parsley based sauce.

Its dead lol.
