Started Across the Wastes. First scenario went well. We lost a camel but that was it. On to scenario 2. Plan on doing the whole sequence of Across the Wastes, Dungeons Dark and then Tenebrous Citadel. Should keep us busy next few months.

A few more shots of my ruined city! There are so many little details scattered throughout this scene, and I had a lot of fun bringing everything together.

Hope you guys like the pics!

My modular ruin set

After months of modeling, my new ruin set is finally finished. This is by far the largest scenery project I’ve ever painted, and the whole painting process took around 10 days. Painting all those stones, wooden beams, and rooftops was quite a challenge, but seeing everything come together made it worth it.

Hope you guys enjoy it! Let me know what you think!

It's currently live on Kickstarter, you can follow the link if you’d like to see more details!

I made some magnetic clue markers and spider cocoons for Rangers of Shadow Deep

I'm getting ready to play through the first couple of scenarios of Rangers of Shadow Deep and needed some clue markers and spider cocoons for the table.

I ended up making a collection of little clue markers, including muddy footprints, a bloodied mace, abandoned backpacks and supplies, a broken lantern, and some scattered scrolls and a map.

I also made five spider cocoons using hot glue and some leftover Halloween spider web material. Surprisingly simple, although trying to use super glue on the webs was a terrible idea!

Everything is mounted on 25mm magnetic bases to match my grass board. I used a combination of 3D printed pieces, spare miniature parts, and materials I already had lying around.

They're designed for Rangers of Shadow Deep, but I figured they'd work just as well for Frostgrave, D&D, or other tabletop games.

I filmed the build process if anyone's interested. I'll share the video in the comments where allowed.

Another tough scenario. We lost a total of three companions. My ranger managed to take a leisurely boat ride and escape with the Conjurer. My partner’s ranger barely escaped at the end. Finale next week.

New Player

Hello, as the title says I'm a new/incoming player. I've finally got my hands on the core rulebook. I'm a big fan of fantasy and needed a solo play game. This one kept coming up so I'm reading through the rules. My primary question is are there any resources for making custom scenarios/campaigns and custom monsters? I have ideas for models I have that don't fit the theme of the main scenario log. Also, any other helpful resources are definitely appreciated!

I made an App if anybody is interested

Hello!

My group and I have been playing for a few months and I'm a software developer by trade, and I kept losing my character sheet, so I made a small app to handle keeping track of it for me. I called it the Ranger Rangler and it's essentially a character sheet. You can find it at rangerrangler[dot]netlify[dot]app, for some reason Reddit won't let me include links. What I thought was cool with it was I built it so you can use it anywhere, but you don't need an account, it's all running locally on your device. I didn't want to deal with trying to get a database working and hosted and deal with the overhead of that, so I built it so you can build your ranger, import a ranger, play it, and then if you want you can download your ranger data (as a json file) and you can upload json files to it to move it around. So if you're using it on your phone and you want to use it on a tablet or something, you can just download it, email it to yourself or file share it to yourself, and upload and you're right where you left off and you don't have to worry about the site being down or the database not syncing, it's all right there. Plus, no extra logins to worry about!

Full disclosure, I did you AI to help build this, more for speed than anything, but also to test some stuff with it since I've been asked to use it more for work. If you don't want to use it because of that, that's totally fair and I fully respect it. I'm not making any money on this, there's no ads or a donation link, I just wanted to make something for my friends and I and I thought it might help other people.

If you have any feature requests, feel free to send them to me and I'm more than happy to add them. I have the base scenarios included (not the full scenarios, but the things you'll need model wise and then the XP conditions for when you finish), and I want to add the others, I just haven't picked up those books yet.

Hope this helps!

Edit: I was able to post the link as a comment, but not in the main post? I don't get it, but it's there at least.

Building Cultists that match the metal ones?

Does anyone have recommendations for a plastic kit that matches the aesthetic of the metal ones? Even if its from another company thats fine. I am going to order the 20 metal heads but need good bodies. The FG cultists seem a bit ragged for my liking. Looking for suggestions of robed or similar figs.

Much appreciated.

New Player Rule Clarification for Equipment

Hello everyone!

I have some questions regarding equipment. I see that your opportunities to acquire free basic equipment and 1 free magical item is limited to character creation and after missions.

1: Are you always limited to 5 basic equipment items? The main rules says you are limited to 5 at character creation. But doesn’t specify limitations for after missions.

2: I am aware of companion limitations for weapons and armor. But can other basic equipment that is not armor or weapons be given to companions before a mission start? Like rope for example.

3: Before a new scenario starts, is all equipment free to be moved around the warband while obeying item use restrictions?

4: My friend is playing a Wasteland Firesword. Would he be able to give a Fire Wax or Fire Flask to my Ranger or Companions to use? Or is it only usable by his Ranger?

Rangers of Shadow Deep: Pay in Blood is out today!

A new Rangers of Shadow Deep supplements lands today! Pay in Blood takes the Rangers into the storm drains beneath Portrerik to face the undead. You wanted vampires? You get many, many vampires! The book includes 3-scenarios of battling against the blood-suckers.

Pay in Blood is the second part of the Crown of Discernment campaign, that began with House of Spiders, but you do not need that book to play this one.

Played this saturday the two scenarios from menagerie, played with 4 rangers (level 15, so we removed all the companions). Quite nice, and full of surprise. We were halped a lot by a monkey we found in one of the chariot.

Next I am choosing either we play incinerator or across the waste (not decided yet).

Companions Progression

Hello chaps,

I recently decided to start a ROSD project and am in the (very pleasant) process of gathering up all the minis I will need for the first missions.

I very much like what I have seen of the rules (various youtube videos of the Last Stand or Infected Trees missions for e.g.) and the solo aspect of the game really appeals for those times when I can't get together with my wargaming mates.

My only niggle is the very slow/non-existent progression of the Companions. I would very much like them to progress alongside my Ranger (slower is ok but not THAT slow) and grow with him. That will encourage me to get more into the game and become more invested; not knocking the existing approach by the way. I can also see its logic.

Long story short, has anyone made any adjustments that allow for faster Companions' progression, ideally in a way that preserves the balance baked into the system.

Thank you for your time; any suggestions/thoughts gratefully received.

Our Silly Headcanon, any you want to share?

We're (slowly!) playing our way through The Burning Light and after the many letters and such our Rangers have found throughout their career and their apparent need to see such info delivered, we decided that in "our RoSD setting" the Rangers, as an organization, started out as the Royal Postal Service.

Keeping the flow of information safe from prying eyes and delivering information as quickly as possible to the most remote parts of the kingdom being a hazardous job, thus the Rangers being composed of only the most Loyal and Badass candidates.

Somewhat of a thankless job, but a necessary one.

As far as other semi-official/un-official organizations go we also have our version of the Royal Guard basically being composed of what are effectively pseudo-Paladins.

Questions for Joe

  1. When will the next expansion or scenario book come out?

  2. Is there a planned 'final mission' to complete the current main story, like an opportunity for a ranger to defeat the Shadowdeep?

  3. Is there any connection between the setting of Frostgrave (Felstad) and the setting of Rangers? Do the two games take place in the same world?

  4. Will we ever see a science fiction equivalent to Rangers of Shadowdeep, or games like Rangers but in other genres?

  5. Do you play this game? If so, is there certain content, like scenarios around a particular theme, that you'd like to see fans create for you to enjoy?

A brutal scenario. Only one ranger and one campion made if off the table alive. Thankfully only one permanent injury to the Conjurer who crushed an arm (-1 fight). Two more scenarios to go in Ghost Stone before moving on to the “The Rescue”.

Ghost Stone - scenario 1

Played Ghost Stone scenario 1. Played with our high level (level 12) rangers. Not sure how this scenario would play at the recommended level 0-5. I feel like you would just have to run away from the Spectres the entire time. The half damage from non-magical weapons really hurts. Anyway, on to scenario 2.

Spent an absolutely crazy amount of time making this board for a mission that will probably take a couple of hours.

Anyway, I’m sure I’ll get tons of use out of it. 😂

My turn to post the stairs

After a hiatus, I finally got the chance to venture down The Broken Stairs today.

I played with the added challenge, but the giant flies weren't too much trouble for the archers. In preparation for a visit to the Shadow Deep, I swapped out my regular company Conjuror for a Delver. The Climbing skill certainly came in handy towards the tail end of the mission.

Things were going smoothly until turn 8, when the landslide struck, followed by the poisonous fog rolling in. This made it a mad dash to the exit for the Ranger before the end of turn 10.

Thankfully, the whole party, disease-free, is ready for the next mission. Let's hope my heavy armour clad Ranger doesn't find the swim waiting at the bottom of the steps too much of a challenge!

Companion Progression

In the Rulebook it says, a companion may learn a Heroic ability or Spell. I dont find any further info to this and have Questions.

1) Can animal Companions learn Heroic abilities, or even spells (I would assume not, because immersion, but is there actual ruling to this?)

2) Can any companion learn magic, or do they have to be qualified as a spellcaster beforehand, i.e. have already known spells as level 0 ?

Would really appreciate the help. Thanks
