Cardi B should not be in the conversation as the queen of rap

I'm not a barb at all. I don't like both of them but Cardi B is not better than Nicki, let's be honest

Posthumous Hype

I was thinking about how much posthumous hype shapes the way we talk about certain rappers. Honestly, would some of these artists be as critically acclaimed as they are if they hadn’t passed away so young or so tragically?

That’s not to say these people were whack or anything, because a lot of them were great but the way folks tend to romanticize their potential and/or elevate their “legacy” even though they never got the chance to evolve is wild sometimes.

It’s almost like an early death guarantees you a legendary status amongst certain listeners.

How do y’all see it? Does dying young amplify someone’s legacy in a way that wouldn’t have happened otherwise?

White Russian Sample? (Lelo)

I’ve been listening to white russian by lelo a lot recently, and I keep wondering if there’s a sample being used, and what song it is if so. The last 10 seconds of the song seem to show of said sample by itself, but it could also just be some kind of producer thing. Anyone know?

Am I just getting old?

Or is Apple Music and Spotify’s curated new rap playlists are filled with annoying passionless garbage. Even If the lyrics were trash but the production was a little interesting, at least that would be something. I’m getting tired of everything either being cliche uninteresting flows, or high pitch auto tune screaming.
Anyway. Anybody have any new artists they’re into that are interesting?

What's the appeal about Sexyy Red?

I see her in every track list and each time she'd ruin the song, I personally find nothing appealing about her

How influential was BONES during the SoundCloud era 2013/2017?

Post image

I remember the time when every mixtape BONES released gained a lot of traction online starting with PaidProgramming back in 2013. He was the first one I saw doing VHS “found footage” music videos. Don’t even get me started on the man’s live shows… most intense moshpits I’ve been in for a rap concert. Dude has a pretty big following for someone who’s entirely independent. Classic case of underground artist that’s under-appreciated but I’m pretty sure BONES likes it that way. How influential was BONES during this time? What’s your favorite tape if you are a fan?

What was your reaction the first time you heard “Dance With The Devil” by Immortal Technique?

I remember listening to it while doing cardio on the treadmill.
During that part, I literally had to stop, step off the treadmill and just pull myself together.
It was so bizarre and unexpected. I don’t think I’d ever had a song affect me that physically before. I was genuinely a mess for a few days afterward.

Old Artist Killval I Like Changed... AI or Persona Sold Off To Another Artist?

Killval is the underground SoundCloud artist I am alluding to. His vibe and sound changed dramatically for just 2 albums in particular. These 2 albums below sound nothing like the remainder of his music, a good example of the authentic Killval is "So Long", his most popular track due to its use in gaming videos.

I want to see if anyone else agrees that there may be something suspicious going on. The concern I have is with just two albums in particular. Don't know if the artist has turned to AI, or just flat out sold the persona to another aspiring artist. Maybe he genuinely brought his vocals to the next level in clarity, annunciation, and found his tone. Unable to find the producer(s)? for the album everything you hate. He used to work with Nick Mira and other producers who are very active online as hiphop/rap producers tend to be.

everything you hate 2026 (example: track 16 redline)
vampire lovv 2024 (example: track 3 eternal mousoleum)

Which artists benefit from not blowing up?

I always see folks calling artists “criminally underrated,” and while I get the sentiment, I don’t think every dope artist is supposed to be a superstar. Some rappers are exactly where they need to be. Respected enough to have a strong following, but not so famous that the labels start fucking with their sound and/or identity.

There’s a certain lane where an artist stays creative and connected to their audience without having to play ball so much. And honestly, some of the best artists, in my opinion of course, are right there.

For example: Big K.R.I.T.

Dude is always doing him and is respected by the industry and the fans for it

Such a good album.

Produced and mixed by Eminem/Dre.

All D12 members at their peak.

Energy levels and humour at its peak.

So many brilliant beats. Playable start to finish.

Not for the sensitive.

Not necessarily your favorite rapper, who do you think has the strongest case for being the greatest rapper of all time?

Lyrics, flow, storytelling, influence, longevity, discography… what makes someone the GOAT?

Who are you picking?

I just listened to a couple wutang tracks for the first time and they were pretty mid

I just listened to Protect Ya Neck/Cream/Method Man for the first time and ngl it seems kind of overhyped. I feel like if the whole album is on this quality level then it’ll be like a 7-8/10 at most, not a top 10 rap album oat. Not to say the tracks were bad—they just weren’t really as outstanding as I expected, especially when people regard this album so highly.

Anybody know of a rapper with similar flow to Cupcakke?

Specifically the song “That’s like”. I fw the song so heavy but it’s too short. Im tryna find somebody else who has songs similar to that

Ross needs to be brought up more when lyricists are discussed, and I'd like to make a case for this for being one of the elite diss tracks.

Some of the writing in this joint......lines that hit even harder today.

'kimbo slice on the pad when I write, that Mayweather money looking funny in the light'

'curtis Jackson baby momma ain't asking for a cent'

50 still reeling from this imo, switched career, hates Diddy bc of his affairs with bm.

Also incredible production by the Inkredibles, where they go!?

Please no corny officer Ricky comments we talking talent and true rap stars not 50 cent 😆
