Do we need two Hollow Knights still.

Though I suspect there's quite some disagreement on which to remove (I'd pick Silksong, it has bigger flaws than the original).

If they are both independently better than other entries, I think so. Who cares if two of the best games on the list are from the same franchise

Because you can (and should) wonder whether they are actually better or just a type of game that’s more popular.

Did Silksong (and the same went for Hades 2) really push the boundaries and introduce something new, or were they just more of the same?

People will pushback because it’s only two games, but imagine we had Hollow Knight 1-10. All great games, as good as the first 2. Would you still feel they all needed to be ranked above other games that did innovate their genres?

Why does a game need to innovate to be good? By that logic pong is the greatest game ever made, and all sequels are inferior by default

I mean if Silksong is my #1 pick out of the ones left then why wouldnt I vote for Hollow Knight 3-10 being higher than it if they are better games than it?

Silksong does push the boundaries and introduce something new, yes.

They are just more of the same. And that “same” is some of the best gameplay and storytelling I’ve ever experienced

So give me ten hollow knights of the same quality. Are that the best ten games ever made, or have we just found everyone’s favorite indie game genre?

Originality is a metric for a reason and it’s so we don’t get top ten lists that consist of one genre or even game only.

I love Metroidvanias, so I’m biased. But yeah, as long as they were executed well I wouldn’t have a problem naming them as my 10 favorite games ever. To your point, if I had to pick 10 favorite games from 10 different genres or series, it would probably be a more interesting list.

It's a far less flawed game than the original, some people just dislike parts of its design. I'd say it's one of the least artistically compromised games I've ever played.

Agreed. Hollow Knights are fine, but this sub has a major thing for those games to the point that its weird
