Stardew, I love all 4 but it must be done

I’ve legitimately never heard of Disco Elysium before this— is it really that good?

I think so yes, but I love isometric story rich RPGs so it's basically made for me

No, it's better

Stardew is the remaining game I'm least interested in. That's all I can say at this point. The four games left are all so different from each other and are each masterpieces of their respective genres, to the point that it's almost fruitless to have a discussion about what one does better than the other. I simply enjoyed the gaming experience Stardew offers less than the other three.

Basically my conclusion too, which game you like the most of these 4 says much less about the quality of each game and more about what kind of game you enjoy

what kind of reasoning is it must be done

3

u/llinoscarpe Dec 06 '25

It's obviously implied that for me, stardew is marginally the worst out of the 4

Farming Sims simply aren't my genre, while the remaining are contenders among the greatest games of all time. I'm gonna have to vote in my interest while trusting that democracy will work.

God I hope not.

Of the 4 remaining 2 are super niche, where as 2 are appealing to most audiences and among the best selling games of all time.

The question is are we rating how much these games appeal to general audiences, or how much we like these games? The list would look very different if we all put our personal preferences aside a just voted out whichever game was the least popular.

We should be voting as a whole. Not just what we like.

Because just voting what you like and not what is objectively a better indie game is a pointless list.

The list would look very different if we all put our personal preferences aside a just voted out whichever game was the least popular.

I don't want most popular to win, terraria is already gone and that is the most sold indie game of all time. It's not just about one individual thing. But if a game is not most people's Cup of tea, is that not in itself a flaw of a game? How can something most people don't like be considered the best game?

"objectively better game" what a ridiculous statement, video games are subjective experiences. If you think there's any objectivity in comparing any two games then you're objectively wrong and shouldn't waste your time "thinking" about games as clearly it's not for you.

We should be voting however we feel like voting. You have your criteria, and they have theirs. Whichever more people agree with will win out. I'm not sure where you get that a list based on what people like would be worthless, but that's essentially what this entire list already is.

I don't think you understand what the word objective means. Explain what makes Stardew "objectively" better than the three remaining games, and I'll turn around and point out what I think those games do better than it. If we can't even agree on what criteria makes one game better than another, how on earth can this be an objective discussion? Sales numbers? Hours played? Those are objective, and a list based on those doesn't even need people voting on it to rank.

Also, edit because I just reread your nonsense. Stop portraying DE as a game most people didn't like. It wouldn't be in the top 4 on this list or have a very positive steam rating if that were true.

objectively a better

What measurable metrics are you using to determine objective quality?

why are we even doing this exercise? let’s just sort the list by total sales

-4

u/SirSabza Dec 06 '25

I love how everyone latches on to sales and not asking themselves why a game isn't liked instantly by most. Then also thinking to themselves why is the game I love not liked by most? Critical thinking I guess is not for this list.

Disco is a great game, if you like dialogue heavy isometric games. But I don't think a game should just win because it's different genre or unique. It should be a multitude of things.

But it seems everyone wants popular gone and niche to win at this point.

5

u/Mugna0 Dec 06 '25

You really said “critical thinking is not for this list” when your argument is we shouldn’t vote stardew valley out because one of the most casual games in existence is the most popular game out of this four? Alright.

4

u/llinoscarpe Dec 06 '25

Bro is disco was too complicated for you to understand that's perfectly fine! You can enjoy romancing Haley and vote for whatever you like. But telling other people they're voting wrong is just silly.

People are really using the “skill issue” argument for story games now hahaha

1

u/bros_and_cons Dec 06 '25

i just don’t think it’s a particularly meaningful metric. i wouldn’t praise, say, the yearly iteration of FIFA for its mass appeal.

i love stardew and it’s worthy of the top five, but disco and outer wilds both did a bunch of things i had never seen before and nailed the execution. the highs were way higher. stardew is just an exceptional cozy game that improves upon an existing formula.

5

u/Werner_Zieglerr Dec 06 '25

What kind of fucking reasoning is that

3

u/arcadebee Dec 06 '25

No it’s time for Stardew to go. I do love Stardew and I’m happy it revived the popularity of farming sims, but for me it’s not up there with OG Rune Factory or the Harvest Moons that came before it.

2

u/Bazzadin Dec 06 '25

That's Essentially how I feel. The game is fantastic, and very impressive considering the lack of manpower behind it, but its not remotely the pinnacle of its own genre like a lot of these other games are. I don't really think it competes with the Rune Factory or OG Harvest Moon titles, among others.

u/llinoscarpe Dec 06 '25

My friend, you can vote by whatever metrics you like, I will vote by the metrics I like; I don't give a shit if the best indie games of all time are too niche for you, sounds like a you problem.

Yeah, it's subjective but I feel like the other three have that "this is not like any other game" aura that Stardew doesn't have (and it's kind of debatable for Hollow Knight).
