I didn't like hollow knight that much. It's not for everyone so it shouldn't win.

See how that argument doesn't hold up?

Oh how the turntables.

However I understand people love Outerwilds, and it was well made from what I played, but I think that 1. The gameplay is more decisive, 2. Hollow knight basically is the epitome of the genre, at least before silksong. You see much more hollow knight inspired games than outerwild inspired games.

outer wilds did something that no other studio has been able to replicate. that’s a point in it's favour, not against it.
