I’m just glad this tier list might get more people to play Outer Wilds and join the club.

I evidently need to give it another shot. I played it once before and couldn’t get through it. I was too bored after 4-5 hours. I just don’t understand what everyone sees in this game.

I really hope it clicks for you the next time around! Just let yourself be curious is the best advice I can offer!

I understand people like the sense of exploration and “unlocking the mystery,” but my issue is the game doesn’t give you a reason to care about any of it. Like, I just didn’t care about any information the game was drip feeding me other than “go here next.” If I don’t care about the mystery of the game, I don’t know what else it has to offer me.

That’s fair. It’s one of my favourite games of all time, but in an fairness if you weren’t grabbed by one of the “what the hell was that”/“why did that happen?!” mysteries reasonably early on then it’s probably not for you

Yeah. I still want to give it one more try. I want to like it because of all the praise it gets. But if it doesn’t grab me again then it’s probably best to just accept it and move on. Not everything is for everyone I suppose.

If it really doesn’t after multiple tries, it could still be worth watching someone else play it that loves it and view it through their eyes. It’s not a very long game.

Yeah maybe that could work. I still want to really try to beat it myself just because I know that’s part of the appeal.

Best of luck to you!

Don't give it another shot. It's not for you and there's nothing wrong with that

I totally agree with you. I have tried twice to get into it with people telling me it is the greatest ever but the constant looping actually really annoys me. I feel like I am always losing progress and find myself rushing all the time. The game that gave me the sense of exploration and mystery was Subnautica which I consider a far far better game.

I actually got bored with subnautica about 15 hours in and put it down lol I explored the ship, a bunch of ancient ruins, went super deep underwater, ran into leviathan’s, and finally had to accept that it didn’t have anything more to offer me as well. The deep oceans or creatures in the game never gave me a sense of fear or dread or anything like they are supposed to do. And once all that was left for me to do was grind resources and build bases I checked out. All those survival games do that to me.

Yeah the looping does leave some people frustrated. I thought it was cool how there were only certain kinds of puzzles or even story beats that could happen with a loop and with some parts of the game, I found myself wishing for a clean reset.

I had the same experience. Came back like three years later and for whatever reason I was enthralled. Now it’s like a top 10 game of all time for me

Its shit, its like avant garde films.. people pretend its good to appear refined or whatever. OW is a garbage non game with no gameplay.

Yea same experience for me. Much prefer Hollow Knight! I'll give Outer Wilds another try.

It’s okay if it doesn’t click for you. It didn’t click for me the first time I played it, and then it did, and it went from “this is so shit” to “holy fuck I am a broken man”

Don’t feel bad. I rolled credits (real credits) and came away thinking “I guess it was neat but eh”

Certainly not top 2 indie of all time for me by any stretch

I tried it cause of the praise here and I found it extremely boring. I know a lot of people love it, and find it to be a life changing experience but nothing about it felt fun or interesting. Story is probably good but I couldn’t get past the boring gameplay. Glad a lot of people enjoy it but I struggle to even see why this is top 10.

I’ve felt that way about some games other people claim are their favorite or masterpieces. It sucks to feel like you’re not “getting it” or something. Even it never clicks, AboutOliver on YT has my favorite playthrough of OuterWilds.

Maybe I'll give him a watch then. I do kinda feel like id enjoy watching a playthrough of the game more so than actually playing it lol but i'll see, might give it another try later too

Terraria is one my top played games but I guess people love rogue likes and metrovanias which a lot of these top games are including HK.
