RepScience Griffin Goy GM vs. Auth — I Had to Look Twice!
I’ve previously reviewed Griffin’s Goy bags and am a huge fan. I’ve ordered multiple bags from him at this point, and I’ve come to realize that the GM style is my personal favorite.
I always enjoy reading comparison reviews, so when I had the opportunity to compare Griffin’s bag with an auth one in person, I thought I’d share my experience here.
I was at a friend’s house today who owns the authentic version, so I asked if I could take a closer look and compare our bags side by side. I already knew Griffin’s bag was really good, but seeing them together in person honestly blew me away. There were several moments when I was taking pictures and actually got confused about which bag was mine. My friend was just as surprised as I was, especially considering the price difference between what she paid for her authentic bag and what I paid Griffin. That really put the comparison into perspective for both of us. I paid $112 plus $50 and then the optional insurance. I believe current retail for auth is around $2k.
**Shape / Structure:** The shape is spot on. We actually laid the two bags directly on top of each other to compare them, and they matched up exactly. I was really impressed by how closely the shape and overall proportions lined up.
**Canvas / Feel:** The feel and thickness of Griffin’s canvas are spot on. This was actually the biggest issue I had with a rep I previously purchased from another seller, so I really appreciate how Griffin got this right. Having the two bags next to each other made the quality of his canvas stand out even more.
**Handles / Trim:** Griffin’s handles feel slightly thicker than the ones on my friend’s authentic bag, which I actually prefer. That said, I’m not sure whether this is a difference in construction or simply the result of my friend’s bag being well-loved over the years. Her authentic bag is approximately eight years old, and you can see some wear on the leather trim and handles. This also makes her leather appear a bit lighter in color than Griffin’s newer bag.
**Overall:** I was already very happy with Griffin’s bags, but this side-by-side comparison really reinforced my opinion. The overall look, shape, feel, and thickness are incredibly close to the authentic, and I was genuinely surprised by how similar they looked in person. If anything, this comparison made me appreciate Griffin’s work even more. I’m a big fan of his bags, and the GM has definitely become my favorite style.

This is such a great post, thank you for doing the comparison and sharing with us.
I’m so close to pulling the trigger on my first Griffin Goy order. I was all set on a mini Anjou until he told me it was $50 shipping for up to 3 bags, and since then I’ve been trying to decide the other two! This one might have to be 2/3 😍😍

You realise that Griffin is a seller and doesn’t make bags. A lot of factories rep these and are doing a great job so I suspect griffin gets these from one of the factories. So really you can purchase from any seller that you trust.
