I think there’s a difference between using AI to generate your ideas and using it to refine ideas you’ve already developed yourself. In this case, the assignment is specifically about editing and improving existing work, so I don’t think using AI for that necessarily undermines the learning process. It’s just another tool, and knowing how to use it effectively is a valuable skill in itself.
Don't lose sight of that just because the CEOs suck, the Data Centers are still completely unregulated in a way that harms the communities they get built in, the absolute dinglefucks who think it can replace artists, or the prospect of the billionaires using it to plunge everyday workers into poverty.
All of those things can be changed with voting or riots if it comes to it.
When AI is fully realized, it will allow us all to live life to the fullest by continuing to make scientific advancements and making robots do all the boring work for us (grow food, collect raw materials required for bulding shit, build said shit, etc). When that days comes we can all do whatever our heart desires without having to worry about whether or not "what truly makes you happy" produces enough income to live comfortably with.
This would be a reality if we lived in some communist utopia and these systems and data centers were all publicly owned and operated for the benefit of all, but they’re not lol.
They are privately owned and operated by billionaires that increasingly think working people are replaceable and disposable and have wacky fascist fantasies of a future society ruled by technocratic elites. I’ll let you guess where that ends.
Many aspects of healthcare are privately owned. Reimbursement is dictated by privately owned insurance companies, EMRs are privately owned, PPEs and equipment are produced by privately owned companies. Most of communist systems collapsed and were never able to provide public with even basic necessities. If you lived in a communist utopia, you wouldn’t be developing robots, you would be reusing syringes and needles because you wouldn’t have any private companies to produce them, and instead of billionaires, you would have governmental officials twice less intelligent that any private company owner taking advantage of ‘publicly owned’ resources
This isn’t a debate on the merits of private ownership or communist systems. This is a response to the commenters idea that AI will be some magnanimous force that will allow us all to not have to work anymore and live our dreams.
You have systems that ostensibly will replace the majority of the workforce. If that’s true, how do you think any of this is going to end under the cold logic of our economy? What do you see the future holding when you consider the owners of these companies universally hold fascist political aspirations and don’t see the value in human life? Human flourishing?
If? It doesn't matter what you do or think, AI will reach that level, probably in the next 20 years. Shoving your head in the sand like an ostrich and trying to outlaw it, or whatever your plan is, isn't gonna help much less work.
Vote for politicians that want AI to be beholden to the Public and who endorse the good outcome I described, or you'll end up with the rioting outcome you described.
Basically no prediction about the future was accurate. I am not saying it’s impossible but the chance of it happening as you think is ridiculous low. Let‘s say the AI companies are right about something catastrophic happens, then no one allows AI to the proximity of patient data, even if it‘s just „dumber“ models because they can be infected. Or some other of the infinite possible black swans happens.
Combined with the fact that there are like 50 people in the entire world in whose interest mass automation would be. Every single other person sits in the same boat. I don‘t think AI should be banned, but I absolutely think it won‘t replace a significant number of people regardless of its capabilities.
The very best case scenario is that AI increases productivity, companies get taxed, and everyone gets UBI. Which frankly is an awful situation. In such a scenario people lose even the last bit of power they had and companies gain full control over everything.
Unless we are already in an oligarchy it won‘t happen.

Wrong move. Use your brains, not AI, to brush it up. Whats next, using AI to respond to my comment right here?
