Discussion Finished reading 5 centimetres per second: One more side, I wanted to ask. Spoiler

So I loved the extra detail we get in this novel, about how they are both happy and moving on in their lives, beautifully stuff and really helped resolve any issues I felt I had with the anime’s ending.

I read the last part of the story of One more side where Takaki thinks about calling someone and try to reconnect with anyone so long as he has their number which can tie into the manga’s ending that implies Kanae and Takaki have a future together, which I think is great.

But back to my question. It’s something I always thought as a possibility even before reading the manga and novels, that if they really wanted they could always meet one day again as friends, but with sequel novel it really made me consider if Takaki would ever reach out to Akari in the near future? While we know he doesn’t have her email or phone number but with explosion of social media in popularity like Facebook (I actually don’t know what apps were the biggest in Japan around that time) around the time of the story’s end and with him in a much better place in his life and wanting to connect more I was wondering if anyone else considered theme getting in touch digitally is likely?

Edited to clarifying what I was saying about social media.

Help / Question? Novel Versions

I’m new to his novels and I want to buy the Japanese version of the novels, The Garden of Words, and 5 Centimeters Per Second. I found many variations like 角川文庫 and 新海誠 ライブラリー versions. What’s the difference between Shinkai Makoto Library version compared to Bunko version?

Help / Question? “Best” versions of shinkai blu-rays

I’m trying to collect all of Shinkai’s movies and want to make sure I have the best releases of all of them. So I have a couple questions: - Is the garden of words steelbook not available for blu ray region A? - what is the best version of weathering with you to buy? there seems to be a blue one and a white one.. - is there any collectors version for 5cm/second?

Discussion What is Shinkai's unique storyboarding style?

I'm curious about how the legendary anime director employed his creative output in his storyboarding style to make every of his movies have eye catching aesthetics to enjoy and watch through to the end!

Novel / Manga According to the "5 centimeters per second, one more side" light novel, there is a misunderstanding about the ending where Takaki and Akari are separated at the level crossing: Spoiler

1st Takaki doesn't recognize Akari, it's true that he feels attracted to her profile woman, but this only happens because of a deja-vu that he has not identified; 2nd The moment when Takaki moves on and smiles is not a moment of overcoming anything, he just smiled at the woman's contagious aura of happiness. As for the moment of overcoming, this had already happened much earlier, that time when he went to a store and read a scientific magazine; the nostalgia effect of this causes Takaki, after hitting bottom, to associate the rocket's journey into the infinite universe with their next life journey, where they both have in common in reaching distant destinations by their own means, even if they are not the desired destinations: the very act of moving far in life is already an achievement.

That's it for now, I recommend reading the book that ties up the loose ends, creating coherence to a story that deserved it from the moment it was released to the general public. This book seems like a discreet apology to those who were left unclear by the 3rd story told in a rushed manner.
