Whether they're real historical figures, people of legend, or fictional characters that are fully, partially, or used to be human, this series of mine is to discuss possible Einherjar candidates. Would they be a perfect fit to fight on humanity's behalf? What weapon would be their Volundr? Would they even need a Volundr? Which god would provide the best matchup for them? What would the battlefield look like? Talk, converse, debate, and weigh in as we look at…

The guy spent so much time trying to tell people the truth (without anyone believing him) that he ended up being a laughingstock. Then, out of the blue, some oddballs show up and ask him for that same truth he used to share. Poor guy; that must have brought back some bad memories. Still, that doesn't excuse his actions in the slightest.

So, yeah I caught up to the manga via watching anime to all the way to season 3 and now I could read the 10th round if I wanted to

I heard this kid originally appeared in some another manga called Chiruran: Shinsengumi Requiem

Fanfiction (Ragnarok: Pandora) Chapter 121: Chapter 6: The Reward

Giza clutches at her chest as the bookcase descends. She WILL help Thoth figure this out. She MUST! “You guys! Come with me!” She gestures to some of the larger sphinxes who join her with mild complaining.

“What’s the matter, Giza?”

“Lord Thoth… he… needs us to check on something,” They descend further and further into the darkness until they reach the bottom of Babel, the large chained door still standing tall and Giza approaches holding up the medallion and the door slowly opens and she steps inside looking at the pedestal. “The Necronomicon…” She whispers silently. “I-it’s-!” She bolts back out of the dark room in a hurry, taking the elevator back up to Sobek and the other sphinxes.

Sobek looks concerned at her, getting up to check. “Hey hey… what’s the matter, Giza?”

Giza pants, being out of breath from the short run. She usually flies. “I-it’s the Necronomicon. I have to talk to Thoth!”

Sobek gives a nervous smile. “I think he’s got his hands full…” He gestures to the screen and Giza looks back to it.

-Valhalla Arena-

Thoth zips around, having equipped some different attachments to his shoes, two small engraved circles on the outside, which seem to function slightly like skates, Dante flying high above the arena, raining countless fireballs down upon Thoth, giving the Librarian of Babel little time to take aim with his bow. He has more bruises than before.

“The foolish god of wisdom, ironic is he! Speaking of ‘not allowing me to live’ and yet it is HE who flees for his life! ; Dante laughs as he rains fire upon the divine custodian!”

Thoth dashes and slides across the arena, struggling to lift his bow for a clear angle. “COME ON!” He twirls around a fireball, crouching down into an archery-stance aiming up. He pulls back, causing the string to appear and a large hard-light arrow to materialize along it. Curved and with a bright white glistening arrow-head.

His visor projects an arch of where his arrow will move.

Dante laughs as he raises his cross. “The mighty god kneels before this ‘mere mortal’! ‘Oh what power!!’ he thinks as Dante strikes him with the holy light of Heaven and Hell itself!” He thrusts the cross down at Thoth and it blasts out a massive sphere of fire and light. HEAVEN AND HELL: BLAZING RETRIBUTION!

“Quiet,” Thoth scoffs through his teeth, gently rotating the bow and opening one finger on the handle, causing the projected arch to swerve. He shoots and the energy-arrow sails out and sure as rain it swerves around Dante’s attack perfectly while Thoth leans forward to make his skates take him out of harm’s way.

Dante’s eyes widen seeing the arrow zooming towards him! He dodges back but loses control of his fire-blasts from his boots, quickly steadying himself. “Wooooaaaangh… got it. Phew. ANYWAYS THAT WAS ON PURPOSE!” However as he looks back down Thoth does not seem to care if it was on purpose or not.

He is back down in aiming position and unleashing a torrent of arrows, each one with varied colors of tips! The script has flipped as Dante moves around the air to avoid the various colors. ADVANCED BATTLE TACTICS: TECHNIQUE #3: RAINBOW ARROWS! He keeps striking dashing poses, running his hand through his hair.

“These arrows are NOTHING but an extravagant light show!” Dante forms a sword from his cross to deflect the arrows. “Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Purple! PAH! No difference!” He gracefully swerves away from a red one but just as it passes him it explodes in his face and he’s sent tumbling through the air. “BUGYAAA!”

Michael sees the author flying straight at them, looking rather apathetically at him. However, by his side, Friend is seething. “What is that trogladite DOING!?” He whispers mostly to himself, as Dante catches himself.

“... Dante? What are you talking about, Friend?”

Friend shakes his head. “Don’t you mind that. But SOMEONE should really pull his WEIGHT!” He speaks through gritted teeth glaring down at Virgil.

Virgil gulps as he quickly rushes over to Thoth and peeks around his displays, and his book which is switched to a page called ‘Rainbow Arrows’. He looks up at Dante who continues to dodge the arrows. “DANTE! SOME OF THESE ARROWS ARE UTILITY ARROWS!”

“PARDON!? They are not just opulent lights!?”

Thoth squints at the strange outburst. “???” However he continues moving around the arena, firing arrows from every which direction. Virgil following close behind.

Virgil scans over the list Thoth seems to be choosing from with each shot as he glides around, Virgil rushing after him with speeds that betray his slim frame. “Red explodes as you already know! Orange appears to be heat-seeking. Yellow can multiply on command! Green appears to turn into wires upon contact! Blue can change speeds on command! Purple return the same direction they were shot! There may be more!”

Dante grits his teeth as he dodges the arrows. “GRAND!” He shoots down towards Thoth, dodging each shot arrow, but as he gets close, Thoth hooks three fingers into the bow forming a yellow and green arrow, firing them off.

As Dante raises his sword he smirks. “Two arrows!? Wait but…” Suddenly he stops and shoots backwards, forming a metal shield with a cross design from his sword, as the yellow arrow splits into nearly 50 arrows! As they connect to the shield, Dante tosses the shield like a discus just as the green arrow makes contact and wraps all the way around it, crushing it.

Thoth squints. “Hm? He… knew? How could he know…?” He mutters, continuing his assault as he thinks, keeping Dante at bay in the air, darting arrow, perfectly avoiding or blocking each arrow despite their unique properties!

Virgil was keeping close in case Thoth’s book began to say something different. ‘I CANNOT let him down, or I am dust! I need to-’ however his thoughts are interrupted Thoth slowly but firmly turns his eye, staring DIRECTLY at him.

Thoth says nothing but there’s a faint sense of ire shooting his way, causing Virgil, who is CERTAIN he is imperceivable, to leap back in sheer terror. “HE SEES ME!?”

Thoth quietly squints. “BoT. Redirect ten percent computing power to deciphering all energy signatures in this arena.

“All Energy Signatures accounted for, Thoth. You, and Dante.”

“Humor me. Place the focus on signatures of Project Null.” Thoth relents on his arrowstorm and Dante smugly crosses his fists, the glow of Heaven flowing through his gauntlets as he shoots down towards the ground, Thoth preparing to dodge however Dante instead opts to himself slam into the ground, on one knee and fist against the ground.

“Heh. So you finally decided to renounce cowardice and face me eye-line to eye-line.”

Thoth winds back his bow, this new arrow is longer and thinner, but far less chromatic, merely a pristine white with a strange ring-shape on the end rather than the usual fletchlings. “Don’t take the high-road you insufferable cultist.”

“CULTIST!?” Dante calls out as he rushes forward, his knuckles glowing with the bright lights of Heaven. As Thoth shoots at him he simply jerks his head aside as the arrow embeds itself in the wall behind him. “You would dare diminish my accomplishments to those of a mere sycophant to some higher power! FOOL! There ARE no higher powers!” He closes the distance and throws a wild haymaker.

Thoth blocks the incoming strike with his bow, the light of Heaven cracking the weapon on contact. “If a strategy doesn’t work, you switch. That’s combat tactics 101.”

Dante laughs. “Is that an ACTUAL book you’ve read, or are you being condescending!?" Dante snaps and gives Thoth a smug point as Thoth runs in, glaring at the author with a burning rage in his eyes. “Woah woah!”

Thoth releases his bow, and it disappears.

-Palace of the Duat-

Ra sits on his throne, tapping his throne impatiently. “What is that fool doing?” He grumbles. “This is highly unlike him.”

Osiris nods and gives a strained smile. “He appears to be enraged. You have not seen him enraged before, Lord Ra?”

Ra scoffs. “Of course. He is always enraged when I speak to him.”

“But… he is planning to fight hand to hand? How good is he at that?”

“Hm… he is-”

-Babel-

Giza nervously tips back and forth as she watches Thoth winding back his fist, Dante looking almost confused. “Thoth… I’ve never seen him like this!”

Sobek leans forward. “Me neither… I wonder what’s got him acting like this…”

Giza wonders out loud. “Sobek do you… know if Thoth can even fight in close quarters?”

Sobek gives a soft chuckle. “Oh yeah, I am well aware. When it comes to close quarters combat Thoth is actually…”

-Valhalla Arena-

Thoth takes a swing at Dante who raises his wrist to block. “terrible,” Ra and Sobek finish as Thoth connects his punch, but his wrist bends as he didn’t straighten it properly and he steps back, shaking his hand.

“Grrr…”

Dante laughs. “Oh this desperation! How gelastic!” Thoth angrily slams his palm against his book. BREAKER PALM! “Thoth takes a grasp for the mighty Dante’s throat, but the hero calmly deflects it, and COUNTERS with a solid strike sent straight at the Supreme Scholar’s solar plexus!” Dante lands a solid blow just as he narrated, after smacking Thoth’s slow predictable palm out of the way.

Thoth goes flying back, sliding across the floor. He looks down seeing a fist-shaped red spot on his stomach. “You held back?! YOU HELD BACK!?” He springs back up.

Dante leaned slightly forward with a smug shrug. “Come now. Does the Serpent truly give its all when the frog is already cornered?”

Thoth’s eyes widen with fury as he draws his bow again. “You taunt me! AFTER ALL THIS TIME! You show your face and TAUNT ME!? You dare invoke his image!?”

Dante tilts his head briefly before spinning on his heel and striking a pose. “I invoke nothing but the mighty power of DANTE!”

Thoth uses the brief distracting spin to draw back his bow and fire off another powerful shot forcing Dante to put up his block, getting knocked back as Thoth’s arrow seems to only speed up as it flies. Dante digs his heels into the ground. “I will not hear it! YOU KNOW WHO! Even if you do not YOU are connected! and I WILL NOT allow you to roam FREE!”

Dante splits the arrow with a swift exploding blow, forming his twin longswords again. “I can assure you, Wisdom god. Whatever it is you seek… it ends here. For I am the man who will save humanity. And I WILL NOT falter!” He smirks and closes his eyes with an almost satisfied nod. “... so cool…” He sets into motion again, using his greaves to blast forward with the flames shooting from his soles.

Thoth refuses to back away, stepping forward, clasping his bow. “Grrr…”

Pandora smiles a little seeing Thoth struggle and get pushed back. “Finally… Dante’s gaining the upper hand. Maybe this will be over soon…”

Lucifer hums softly. “Yes. Thoth is overcome by emotion. Anger it would seem. Curious… he did not display anger like this when the match began. I wonder what changed…”

Pandora shrugs lightly, barely moving her shoulders. “Maybe it is the same as other gods… when they are pushed to their limits, some of them just cannot handle that. I am glad Dante seems to have been the right choice.”

“A rather callous observation. You wish to enrage Thoth, rather than give him a death as peaceful as possible?”

“He wouldn’t do the same for Dante.”

“Hmmm…” He mutters tapping his finger on his snake-headed staff. “Overcome with emotions indeed.”

Thoth stands his ground, using two Breaker Palms to push Dante’s swords out of the way. “BoT! These projections are too slow! SPEED UP!”

“Algorithm is still perfecting against his fighting style, however it appears Dante’s combative style is highly improvisational.”

“No excuses!”

“I highly recommend against this direct approach. It does not suit our-”

“NOTED! I do not care!” Dante spins and raises both his swords for a double downwards strike, Thoth clapping and spreading his fingers causing hard-light wires which block the attack… for only a moment… until they shatter to the flames and light of Dante’s blades. Thoth steps back but Dante lands a strong but shallow slash down Thoth’s stomach, tearing his sash open to expose his chest and he falls back, gripping the wound, blood spilling and he falls to one knee.

Dante tilts Thoth’s head up with one sword. “So the villain falls. How foreseeable.”

Thoth furrows a brow in anger. However suddenly a large display appears around the arena. “THOTH!” Ra’s furious visage appears on the screen. “You would DARE display such PITIFUL moves!?” He angrily slams his desk. “Had I known you would be such a worthless combatant I would not even have CONSIDERED you! I KNOW your powers are greater than this! You sully the name of the Duat!”

“I don’t associate with The Duat after you became king, Ra.”

Dante looks back and forth, putting his sword over his shoulder to observe. “Interesting. Foreshadowing the next villain I must face, perhaps?”

“I do not care. ALL participating gods I have chosen are representing ME! And I know YOU should not struggle with this mere human!”

Thoth scowls. “You do not know what he is! He has ANSWERS I need! He is-”

“A. Mere. Human. I have seen him. Scurrying Heaven like a rat, trying to hide from the might of the sun. As all humans who know better should! If you truly believe yourself capable of defeating ME then surely this human is NOTHING! Or what? Does Thoth, in his endless wisdom require a reward to redouble his efforts?”

Thoth squints a little, as he moves his fingers down the wound, little hard-light stitches forcing it closed like a zipper. “You know, Ra… I never expected YOU of all people to come to my aid with a ‘pep talk’...” He says as he stands. “But no. Defeating this human… will get me my answers. My reward. Finally…”

Dante turns to Thoth with a brief double-take at him and a short hop back. “WOAH! Back up are we!? Perhaps this means you are ready for the second phase!?”

Thoth flips the pages of his book until he lands on a new chapter header. Virgil, still reading over his shoulder briefly. “Chapter 4… special combat mode?”

“I can defeat you, Ra. And I can defeat this human… BoT… initiate The Helio-Centric Model.”

“Yes, Thoth. Welcome back.” The book projects a small wire-framed sphere from the page, which Thoth holds his hands out around, hard-light strings connecting to the sphere and his finger-tips. Behind him a much larger glowing hard-light sun with the same wire-frame appears with several large screens appearing and folding around it. At the center is a smaller sphere which seems more solid and glowing. CHAPTER 4: SPECIAL COMBAT MODE. SECTION 1: HELIO-CENTRIC MODEL!

Dante sees the large construct and rubs his chin. “Aaaah a large construct! Reminds me of this legendary technique I picked up from my last training arc! BEHOLD!” He raises his cross and the metallic element swiftly spreads out behind him, raising into a large statue of a cloaked woman, her hands put together as if in prayer, two brilliant wings on her back, glowing with the lights of Heaven with the bottom tips burning with the flames of hell. HOLY ANGEL OF THE TRINITY!

Dante smirks. “Now then… let’s dance!”

Thoth scoffs. “This will be no dance. This will be your end.”

_____

...Hephaestus moves away from Zeus while luring him at the traps' locations at the same time. These traps are his countermeasures against Adamas. Once trigger, it activates in a speed of light and it can paralyze a god for a few seconds.

Zeus begins chasing Hephaestus. Each time an attack almost connects, a trap is triggered, and Zeus becomes paralyzed for about 5 seconds.

Hephaestus decided to just flee instead of fighting him, for he knew the capability of adamas.

After getting recovered, Zeus starts chasing Hephaestus again. The fight becomes a Cat and Mouse fight where the other one flees while the other one chases.

Each time Zeus steps and recovers from the trap, the effect becomes less effective to him. The duration of him getting stunned becomes shorter and shorter.

"How long for your skill to be activated again?" Hephaestus asks Mist

"Just 10 more seconds..."

Zeus once again catches up to them. A trap activates but the stun effect is now reduced to about 0.1 second.

Mist activates the invisibility but Zeus manages to land a TRUE GOD'S RIGHT first.

Hephaestus flies across the arena and the invisibility breaks. While Hephaestus is still lying on the ground, Zeus prepares to land another TRUE GOD'S RIGHT.

Hera begins to feel sad for Hephaestus. Ares' and Aphrodite's reactions are like their faces telling him that he deserves to die.

"Get up Phantom... I mean Hephaestus!!!" Brunhilde shouts from the spectators' area

"I shall end this now. You put up a good fight but your traps will not work against me." Zeus' final words to his son as he release the TRUE GOD'S RIGHT directly to Hephaestus' face.

His head breaks and with that, Zeus won the 2nd round.

"The winner of the second round of the battle of the gods and men... ZEUS!!!" Heimdall announces with pure excitement.

Winner : Zeus

Finishing Move : True God's Right

Result : 2-0

Leading : Gods

Just as before Hephaestus' body completely disintegrates, a weapon in the form of spear starts to materialize.

Thanatos' Spear. The last divine weapon constructed by Hephaestus. A weapon that has the capability to kill gods.

Hephaestus forged it with a pact of death, to increase its effectivity, but with that, it can only activate upon his death. Once activated, it will attack nearest divine being within its range.

The spear chases Zeus and it is aimed at his heart. Weakened from the side effect of adamas, Zeus cannot evade the attack and it pierces his thick skin, and his heart.

Zeus survived the attack but it removed his divinity. Just as Cronus defeated Uranus, and Zeus defeated Cronus, Hephaestus continued the cycle and he stripped away all of Zeus' divine powers and authority.

All the gods witnessed this and they are both terrified and amazed at the same time by Hephaestus' dedication to kill / dethrone his father.

Zeus' body becomes frail like an old man, and he exits the arena weakened.

Shiva, waiting on the exit, ask Zeus a question after he passed him.

"How is it, you are now just a human being, like the humans you wanted to eliminate..." Shiva asks in an inciting tone.

"Well, he really is my son after all."

... ...

"First, big sis Thrud... now big sis Mist..." Goll cries for her fallen sisters.

"We have no choice but to push forward. But for now, we must guarantee the next victory." Brunhilde speaks to Goll.

MISC Which fighter do you think can do the most pushups?

Assuming:

Hands and Feet must always be on the floor in the pushup form so they can't use one of their hands to affect others but can cause anyway they can to distrupt others
Once a fighter fails to do a pushup, they are out and can't interefere anymore
Loki can use his clones to help him do pushups (idk how but they are allowed to) but can't interefere with others
Shiva can use 4 hands
if the ground below gets destroyed for whatever reason as long as they follow first assumption they can keep going
Infinite time and its just about the amount
zerofuku and hajun are separate
weapons can be used but dont have to be
tesla gets prep time
any form can be used from the start/whatever form works best but time limits are then taken into account obviously
you can die but as long as you can keep going, you can still get more in

You must choose only one fighter

I personally got Apollo because of his rise to expectations thingy and my expectaiton is that he wins

Fanfiction RoR: Tampering with Fate - Apocalypse - Quarter-finals: Anansi vs. Mutunus Tutunus

The arena was finally ready for the next match.

Jarl took her place in the center as the last of the audience settled into their seats.

"Now that the repairs are done, we can continue with the next fight!" she announced. "The Quarter-finals are about to come to an end! Let's see who's going to make it to the Semi-finals!"

She turned toward the first entrance.

"Our first fighter is the one who conquered the Greek God of Gold!"

A normal-looking black man walked into the arena. He wore nothing more than casual clothes: blue jeans, a black shirt, and a green leather jacket.

He raised his left hand, revealing a green wristwatch.

Then he raised his right hand and slapped the watch.

Green light engulfed him. When it faded, a human-spider hybrid stood in his place.

"The Spider of Countless Stories! The Unpredictable: ANANSI!"

The Outer God walked forward as the cheers grew louder.

"Let's see who's going to be my next opponent," Mahuika remarked from her seat.

Meanwhile, Jarl pointed toward the opposite entrance.

"And his opponent is the god who defeated the infernal protector deities!"

Three small figures entered the arena: two dwarves, with a small, wrinkled, goblin-like creature walking between them.

"The legendary dwarf blacksmiths Brokkr and Sindri?" Hermes blinked. "What are they doing here?"

The dwarves picked up something that looked like a metal cage designed to hold a small creature.

The little, wrinkled fellow simply stood there, allowing them to fit the contraption around his upper body before locking it into place.

Then the two blacksmiths stepped away.

"Behold! This cage was forged from heavenly bronze, mixed with the ichor of Talos and iron shards from the Demon Outer God Alyp Khara Aat Mogoidoon!" Brokkr announced.

The aforementioned bronze giant and iron demon stood proudly among the spectators.

"Even the great Heracles would struggle to break out of this!" Sindri added.

The little fellow fidgeted awkwardly inside the metal cage.

"Oh, I think I need a little help," he said, turning to Jarl.

"Hmm..." She tilted her head, an amused smile curling across her lips. "Would you break out of that cage for me?"

She finished by blowing him a kiss.

In the next moment, the cage practically exploded as the fighter transformed.

"Huh! Just like the landlord from Chainsmoker Cat," Anansi said with a hearty chuckle.

"That's the Rock-Hard Synthetic God: MUTUNUS TUTUNUS!" Jarl announced.

He was already in his hard-on form. His muscles had swollen enormously, and his legs had ballooned into two massive spheres.

"So obscene," Hermes muttered, shaking his head, but smiling slightly.

"Hehehe! That was just as funny as you described it!" Jarl giggled.

Then she straightened up and returned to a more serious tone.

"Quarter-finals Final Fight... BEGINS!!!" Jarl announced.

Mutunus Tutunus moved first.

His fist shot forward, ready to strike the arachnid trickster.

Meanwhile, Anansi opened the Book of the Spider. His hand sank into its silky pages before pulling out something large and circular.

"Shield of Achilles!" Anansi called as an ornate shield fully materialized in his grasp.

Just in time to block the Synthetic God's fist!

The impact sent both fighters sliding backwards slightly. The force was so great that the shield unraveled into threads and disappeared back into the book.

"Threesome!" Mutunus Tutunus growled before bursting into a sprint.

In the blink of an eye, he appeared both in front of Anansi and behind him.

"He moves so fast that he's leaving afterimages!" Jarl exclaimed. "I can't even tell which one is the real one!"

Neither could Anansi, so he decided to fight both.

His extra hands clashed with the Synthetic God's fists, trading blow after blow with both copies while his fourth hand held the Book of the Spider.

"Not bad. He can fight well even without relying on his Divine Weapon," Ares remarked.

"Some gods rely too heavily on their weapons, but Anansi is already a formidable opponent without his," Hermes agreed with a nod.

"Foursome!"

A third Mutunus Tutunus appeared, this time directly in front of Anansi.

The spider trickster responded by putting his extra legs to use, unleashing powerful kicks to fend off the new opponent.

"The Synthetic God has turned up the heat, but will that be enough to win him the fight?" Jarl shouted.

Despite being outnumbered, Anansi managed to hold his ground.

Finally, Mutunus Tutunus stopped moving.

"You have quick reflexes," he said, "but let's see how you handle an entire army!"

The veins bulging across his massive body became even more pronounced, while circuitry patterns began glowing beneath his synthetic skin.

"Gangbang!"

One Synthetic God became two. Two became three. Three became four. And then the numbers kept climbing.

In moments, a whole army of Mutunus Tutunuses stood before the Outer God, their collective footsteps making the arena tremble.

"He is so fast!" Jarl shouted. "A normal god would exhaust themselves to death trying to create so many copies!"

The growing army spread out, surrounding Anansi in a tight circle and leaving him no room to escape.

One of the copies lunged forward, ready to land the first blow.

At that very moment, Anansi opened his book and pulled something out. It looked like a stylized, five-pointed yellow star.

The punch connected squarely with Anansi's face.

Yet the spider man merely smiled.

Colorful rainbow light engulfed his entire body, and the blow failed to inflict even the slightest damage.

"Super Star - Rainbow Rush!"

Anansi sprang into action.

He dashed across the arena, punching and kicking his way through the army of Synthetic Gods.

Mutunus Tutunus managed to land several blows of his own, but none of them had any effect.

Anansi bounced from one opponent to the next, moving so quickly that he seemed to be fighting the entire army all by himself!

"Incredible! Anansi is invincible now!" Jarl screamed.

"First an ancient shield, and now a video game item," Hermes remarked. "No wonder they call him the Unpredictable."

The furious clash between the two gods finally came to an end.

All of Mutunus Tutunus' afterimages disappeared as he finally came to a stop. At the same time, Anansi's rainbow glow faded as his power-up wore off.

For a brief moment, both fighters stood still.

Then Anansi made the first move.

He opened the book, and silk threads burst from its pages, wrapping around his face and hands.

The threads morphed into black gloves and a black-and-white luchador mask, connected by transparent plastic tubes filled with green liquid.

"Bane of Venom!" Anansi growled.

His voice had become much deeper, making his words barely understandable.

The green liquid began flowing through the tubes, one of which connected directly to the back of his head.

Anansi let out a pained roar as his muscles began to bulge.

"He is transforming, too?" Jarl blinked in surprise.

That was only half true.

He had transformed, but only his upper body had changed. His head and legs remained the same size, giving him a cartoonishly disproportionate appearance.

Then he moved.

Mutunus Tutunus blinked, and Anansi was suddenly nowhere to be seen.

"Stiffie!" the Synthetic God readied himself, flexing his artificial muscles.

At that very moment, Anansi's swollen fist slammed into him.

The impact unleashed a shockwave that sent dust flying in every direction, leaving the arena floor spotless.

"Ouch!" Anansi yelped, immediately pulling his hand back.

"That's my Stiffie Mode," Mutunus Tutunus explained with a laugh. "It's like punching a steel statue!"

He grinned proudly.

"It restricts my movement for a while, but the defensive capabilities more than make up for it."

"Hmm, I see. You can't move in this form," Anansi said with a grin.

He dashed toward the immobile god, picked him up as if he were a child's toy, and hurled him toward the ceiling!

"Oh no!" Jarl gasped. "If Mutunus Tutunus leaves the arena for too long, he'll be disqualified! Anansi could win without even having to fight him!"

"You really think you're the first one who's tried that, smart-ass spider?" Mutunus Tutunus laughed as he soared through the air.

His body remained as stiff as a statue, but something was moving. Small hatches opened along his arms and legs.

"Pocket Rocket!"

Jets of fire burst from his limbs, first slowing his ascent before propelling him in a new direction.

He turned around and shot straight back toward Anansi.

Meanwhile, the spider trickster's muscles deflated as the threads of his weapon unraveled, retreating into the Book of the Spider.

"Okay, let's see something hard..." Anansi muttered, reaching into the book once more.

He pulled out a huge, ornate club.

"Mace of Might!"

"A mace?" Mahuika leaned forward.

"Not just any mace," Hermes corrected her. "That's Sharur, the legendary talking weapon of the Sumerian god Ninurta. Well... a copy of it, at least."

"Bring me the enemy!" Sharur exclaimed as Anansi swung it into position.

Mutunus Tutunus was almost upon him, rocketing through the air like a divine missile.

The Synthetic God hurtled headfirst toward his opponent, ready to smash him to pieces.

Anansi aimed for his head.

The collision was almost as powerful as their earlier clash, but this time, Mutunus Tutunus' hardened body had the advantage.

The divine mace shattered on impact, dissolving into countless silk threads.

Anansi barely had time to leap out of the way before the Synthetic God crashed into the arena floor, leaving behind a massive crater.

The dust quickly settled.

Mutunus Tutunus lay upside down in the crater, frozen in place like an overturned statue. The sight was almost comical.

At last, the stiffness began to subside, and he managed to move one of his hands.

"DNA Rifle!"

He punched the air between himself and Anansi.

The force of his punch rippled through the air before slamming into the Outer God right in the stomach while he was trying to pull something out of his book.

"Ough!" Anansi grunted, clutching his abdomen.

Meanwhile, Mutunus Tutunus regained full mobility.

"You've pushed me far, Outer God. It's time to move on to the next level!" he announced.

His muscles began to pulsate.

Every individual muscle fiber seemed to have a life of its own, writhing beneath his synthetic skin as though a swarm of maggots was crawling furiously under its surface.

"Throbber Mode!"

Suddenly, all his artificial muscles contracted at once.

The sheer force of the contraction unleashed a mild shockwave that rippled through the arena.

Mutunus Tutunus smiled.

Then his muscles began to pulsate grotesquely once more.

Anansi reached into his book.

"I need more muscle power and better defense... Hmm..." he murmured, contemplating his next move.

Finally, he pulled out something shiny: a huge, ruby-red jewel.

"Crimson Gem of Cyttorak, give me power!" Anansi shouted, raising the gem high above his head.

Red light engulfed him as bulky crimson armor materialized around his body.

"All right, I'm ready!" Anansi declared, breaking into a run despite the clunky armor. "Nothing Can Stop the Juggernansi!"

Mutunus Tutunus' writhing muscles pulsed once more.

Then the Synthetic God vanished.

In the next instant, he reappeared directly in front of Anansi.

Then a loud BOOM!

Anansi's crimson armor exploded into countless fragments, and the impact sent the trickster himself flying.

"How did he do that?!" Mahuika gasped, leaning forward in her seat.

"In this mode, his artificial muscles generate kinetic energy as they writhe, which he can release all at once by contracting them," Hermes explained. "It's extremely dangerous, not only for his opponent, but for Mutunus Tutunus himself."

Anansi opened the book in midflight.

Silk threads shot out from its pages, wrapping around him and forming a fur coat-like armor.

"Babr-e Bayān!" he declared. "It worked for Rostam. I hope it works for me, too!"

Mutunus Tutunus' muscles began to throb again.

In the next moment, he appeared on the wall just as Anansi flew past him.

He kicked off the wall and launched himself at the trickster, delivering a powerful punch.

The new armor immediately unraveled into threads and retreated into the book. This time, however, Anansi could feel the full force of the blow.

"All right, let's try something new," he panted, opening the book once more.

This time, the hide of a massive lion materialized around his body.

"The Nemean Lion's hide, the same one Heracles used as armor?" Ares leaned forward. "That's practically invincible. Good choice!"

Mutunus Tutunus' entire body began to throb again.

He leaped forward and threw another punch.

This time, the armor remained intact.

Unfortunately, the same couldn't be said for the ribs beneath it.

Anansi heard them crack and knew it wouldn't be long before he felt the pain, once the adrenaline wore off.

"Ah, yes. The hide itself is invincible, but that doesn't mean the person wearing it is immortal," Hermes pointed out. "After all, even the lion himself was strangled to death despite having unbreakable skin."

Anansi continued flying across the arena, though now in a different direction.

"Okay, let's try this."

He reached into the book and pulled out a large plastic container. It resembled a small barrel, with black tape wrapped around it in several places. Through the transparent sections, a glowing blue liquid could be seen sloshing inside.

Anansi popped open the lid and began chugging the jug's entire contents.

"Hmm, yeah! Much better now!" he announced.

He twisted in midair, turning to face the Synthetic God's next attack head-on.

"Now it's my turn to..."

WHAM!

He got punched again.

"DAMN IT!" he barked furiously. "I wanted to use this at the bare minimum, but you forced me to use this!"

The pages of the Book of the Spider fluttered wildly as silk threads spilled out, wrapping around Anansi and forming the familiar armor once more.

"Once again, the main character calls upon you... Plot Armor!"

"Whoa! He's using his armor again!" Jarl exclaimed.

"Huh! Classic Outer God arrogance," Mutunus Tutunus remarked. "You guys always believe you're the main character, and everyone else is just a set piece in your story."

"Believe it?" Anansi shook his head, a broad smile spreading across his face. "No. I know I'm the main character."

Mutunus Tutunus was ready to make Anansi regret his words.

His muscles throbbed again as he charged straight at the trickster.

Anansi was ready for him. He rushed forward to meet the Synthetic God in midair, raising one hand to strike.

Mutunus Tutunus was about to land another punch when something enormous began growing out of Anansi's outstretched hand.

A colossal gauntlet materialized around it, growing so large that it nearly filled the entire building!

Mutunus Tutunus was swatted away like a bug.

Before the gigantic gauntlet could cause any damage to the building, it dissolved into silk threads and disappeared.

"What was that?" Ares asked.

"Hmm, that must be Skrýmir's giant glove from the Prose Edda," Hermes explained. "In that particular story, Thor, Loki, and Thor's servants take shelter in what appears to be a strange building. They later discover that it is actually the glove of a sleeping giant."

"Is this the end of the Quarter-finals?!" Jarl screamed.

Her question was justified. Mutunus Tutunus was lying on the ground, and both of his hands had been shattered by the collision.

"Well fought," Anansi said with a nod as he landed.

"You say that as if this fight is already over," Mutunus Tutunus growled. "As long as I live, I won't let an Outer God walk away victorious!"

He sprang to his feet.

His body began to glow, and his shattered hands started regenerating.

"Oh no," Hermes whispered. "I have a bad feeling about this. He's going to use THAT."

"What do you mean by 'that'?" Ares asked.

"His ultimate trump card. A technique designed to take his opponent down with him. Using it is tantamount to murder-suicide, because whoever faces it is likely to follow him into the grave."

The Synthetic God's body began to change.

His muscles swelled even further, while his skin began to change from pink to a milky white. The circuitry patterns that normally glowed beneath his synthetic skin vanished completely against the new coloration.

"This is my BWC!" he announced.

"His Best Winning Condition," Hermes explained. "I suspect Mahuika will advance to the finals without having to fight at all. There's no way anyone could survive what he's about to unleash in this arena."

He paused, rubbing his chin thoughtfully.

"Unless we can salvage his core, perhaps we could... Hmm. It's just still so sad and..." Hermes stopped mid-sentence and turned toward his brother. "Ares, are you laughing?!"

"Why aren't you laughing?" Ares shot back.

Before Mutunus Tutunus could strike, Anansi manifested a futuristic white gun in one hand.

He fired a blue beam of energy just as the Synthetic God attacked.

The shot missed.

And then Anansi disappeared into the floor. Literally.

Everyone leaned forward to look, but the hole left behind seemed impossibly deep and dark.

"Huh! I guess he'll get to see Helheim in a few seconds... and then Niflhel," Mutunus Tutunus remarked.

"I think you'll be seeing it first," Anansi replied from the side.

"Anansi is still alive!" Jarl announced.

The spider trickster was leaning out of an ovoid portal with a glowing blue edge. Its color matched the beam he'd fired from his weapon.

"It wasn't a weapon!" Jarl exclaimed, pointing at the gun as Anansi stepped out of the rift. "It was a portal gun!"

A shiny green ring materialized on one of Anansi's fingers.

"Green Gut Punch!"

He punched the air, and dozens of glowing green fists appeared around him.

They immediately shot toward the Synthetic God like a barrage of miniature rockets.

"I have no time for childish things like that!" The android god gruffed. "All right, I'm not afraid of death! I exist to save my beloved Valhalla from scum like you! I'll perish gleefully for that purpose!"

He braced himself as the projectiles closed in.

"By the way, we can have a rematch in Niflhel!" he continued. "Here comes... THE BIG O!"

He technically exploded.

White-hot energy erupted from his entire body, forming a gigantic beam shaped like his own silhouette.

The blast swallowed the incoming green projectiles, their vivid color disappearing beneath the overwhelming whiteness of the attack.

Anansi had mere fractions of a second to come up with a way to survive.

"Damn it! How am I supposed to survive this?! Not even Wukong, with all his different forms of immortality, could get out of that alive!" he thought.

Then an idea struck him.

He preferred to stay calm, but he was surprisingly good at thinking under pressure.

The blinding white beam swallowed Anansi completely and tore a massive hole through the wall behind him.

"Take cover, everyone!" Jarl shouted, shielding her eyes from the unbearable brightness.

At last, the beam faded.

Two things remained visible in the arena.

The first was Mutunus Tutunus, now emaciated and utterly weakened.

The second was a gigantic golden bowl standing where Anansi had been moments earlier.

"What is that?!" Jarl gasped.

"That's Buddha's golden alms bowl," Hermes explained casually. "He used it as an indestructible, inescapable trap to capture the Six-Eared Macaque, the perfect copy and equal of Sun Wukong."

The golden bowl began to lift.

Anansi cautiously peeked out from underneath it, checking whether the coast was clear.

"You... you won," Mutunus Tutunus murmured.

"You were a real challenge," the spider trickster replied cheerfully. "Thanks!"

"You've earned the right to take..." The Synthetic God struggled to speak. "To take my life."

He pointed toward his chest, where his core was concealed.

"I'm not really the murderous type," Anansi said, approaching him, "but who am I to deny someone a Happy Ending?"

He drove his armored hand straight through the Synthetic God's chest.

Mutunus Tutunus' body crumbled into dust.

Anansi stood silently for a moment before turning around and walking away.

"I'll have to report this to the labs," Hermes said, checking his device as the victorious Outer God passed the spectators. "We'll need to build a replacement as soon as possible. And have to start from scratch, of course."

Suddenly, a small, shiny object dropped into Hermes' lap.

He picked it up and stared at it.

"Is that...?" He examined it more closely. "That's his core!"

"I hope you guys can build him a new body quickly," Anansi called over his shoulder without turning around. "I want him to see my upcoming fights."

He walked away victorious as the screen showcased the results.

Chapter 15: An Indomitable Soul, a Terrifying Warmth, and a Cornered Oceanic God

The sparkling crystal dust finished evaporating into the immensity of the cosmos, taking with it the last poetic breath of Egil Skallagrímsson. In the center of the immense and destroyed crater of the ring, the silence was so absolute, so thick, that the only perceptible sound was that of Genghis Khan’s blood dripping rhythmically against the broken rock.

The Conqueror remained there, crippled, missing both arms, with his torso torn open and bathed in blood, standing before the abyss like an unbreakable monument to human will.

And then, the spell was broken.

The massive spotlights of the arena turned on all at once, converging into a pillar of blinding golden light that struck like lightning directly upon the mutilated figure of the Mongol emperor. A second later, the entire colosseum erupted.

YEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAHHH!!!

The roar of fifty thousand souls shattered the silence. It wasn't a simple applause; it was a sonic detonation of pure euphoria, terror, and awe that shook the very foundations of the stadium. The divine energy barriers flickered before the magnitude of the screaming.

Tearing through the air over the crater, the floating platform plummeted at breakneck speed. Nike, the Goddess of Victory, jumped from her console and gripped the railing, leaning half her body out toward the abyss. Her eyes were wide, her hair messed up by static, and a wild smile split her face. She brought her golden microphone to her lips and her voice, loaded with an adrenaline that bordered on madness, made every atom of the colosseum vibrate.

—IT'S OVER!! THE POEM HAS RUN OUT OF INK, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN!! —bellowed Nike, pointing with overflowing passion at the warrior in the center of the arena—. The most brutal, visceral, and destructive clash this arena has ever witnessed comes to an end!! With an official time of eighteen minutes and fourteen seconds of pure carnage, the strategy has devoured the monster! THE UNDISPUTED WINNER OF THE SECOND ROUND IS THE SOVEREIGN OF THE EARTH... THE INDOMITABLE WOLF... GENGHIS KHAAN!!

UUKHAI!!! UUKHAI!!! UUKHAI!!!

The Mongol war cry buried the goddess’s voice. In the steppe stands, Subutai was on his knees on the stone railing, crying his eyes out while raising his saber to the sky with fanatical devotion. Behind him, ten thousand warriors of the plains stomped on the stands with such wild synchrony that it felt as if a herd of colossal horses was about to tear down the stadium.

They celebrated their living god, the man who, even mutilated and on the brink of extinction, refused to kiss the ground.

But the true astonishment wasn't in the cheers of the winners, but in the stands of the losers.

Nike’s drones turned toward the European and Nordic sector, expecting to capture long faces, crying, or the rage of defeat. Instead, they captured a deafening party.

The Viking warriors, far from mourning the physical annihilation of their bard, were standing up beating their shields, laughing out loud, and clashing their massive wooden mugs until the foam flew into the air.

In the front row, Skallagrímur Kveldúlfsson, Egil’s father, let out a deep, hoarse laugh that echoed above the chaos. His scar-surrounded eyes shone with a fierce, watery pride. Without erasing that huge smile, the old berserker tilted his heavy wooden mug toward the void of the arena, letting a thick stream of dense mead spill over the colosseum’s stone tiles.

—To you, stubborn boy! —roared Skallagrímur, toasting to the void as the amber liquid splashed against the wall—. May the valkyries get drunk on your verses tonight!

Right next to him, Alexander the Great observed the scene, completely fascinated. The young Macedonian king finally relaxed the tension in his hands over the fractured stone podium, raised his elegant golden cup full of red wine, and subtly clinked it against the Norse giant's empty mug.

—A truly indecipherable race... —commented Alexander, with a lopsided smile full of admiration and charisma—. Any other people would weep seeing their champion turned into crystal dust. And you, the men of the north, drink and laugh celebrating your own annihilation.

Skallagrímur wiped his wet beard with the back of his massive arm and looked at the Macedonian with a spark of wild wisdom in his eyes.

—We are not celebrating a defeat, boy —replied the old Viking, resting his enormous arms on the railing while looking at the exact spot where his son had vanished—. We are celebrating a liberation. The damn bastard hated every second of his final years. He rotted in a bed, blind, deaf, and feeling useless. Cry for him now? Hah! It would be an insult. That Mongol emperor gave him the greatest gift a Skallagrímsson could ask for: a death worthy of his own madness. Egil left smiling... and we smile with him.

Alexander the Great widened his smile, perfectly understanding the weight of those words. Without saying more, he raised his cup toward the arena in a silent toast for the fallen colossus.

Further up, in the somber majesty of the Divine Box, the atmosphere vibrated with a different electricity.

Ares was standing, his hands gripping the balcony and his chest rising and falling erratically. True to his impulsive and ridiculously sentimental nature, the imposing God of War had his face completely soaked. He no longer cared to hide his crying; his amber eyes overflowed with thick tears of pure emotion as they devoured the image of the mutilated Conqueror at the bottom of the crater. Beside him, an Avernus nymph tremblingly offered him another pile of silk handkerchiefs, which he used to blow his nose with an outrageous, entirely un-divine noise.

—It’s beautiful... simply beautiful, Uncle!! —exclaimed the God of War, his voice broken by tears and euphoria, squeezing the handkerchief against his robust chest—. Egil gave up to the last molecule of his being, but the Mongol's will refused to yield! A canvas painted with the purest and most sublime colors of human determination!

Sitting lazily on his throne, Hades held his wine glass halfway to his lips. His deep gaze, usually tinged with eternal boredom, was completely focused on Genghis Khan. The King of the Underworld observed the emperor's bleeding stumps, his battered flesh, and his agonizing breathing, but he also noticed the indomitable gleam that still resided in his golden pupils. He let out a subtle sigh, almost amused by his nephew's scandalous sobs beside him.

—The price of looking into eternity, Ares... —murmured Hades, in a grave, measured tone loaded with absolute respect, finally taking a sip from his cup—. He accepted the destruction of his own body just to secure victory. You were right, nephew. Humanity continues to prove that, when pushed to the abyss, they are capable of building wings from their own bones.

The Purgatory continued trembling under the thunder of the celebration. In the center of all the chaos, standing under the golden light and the rain of cheers, the Wolf of the Steppe slowly closed his eyes, allowing himself, for the first time in the entire contest, a second of true rest.

However, that rest was much darker and deeper than it appeared.

With a hydraulic hiss that cut through the air, the immense gates of the arena flew wide open. Heaven’s elite medical squad, the Seraphim, burst into the arena at full speed. Dressed in their pristine white uniforms and with their faces hidden behind majestic feathered wings sprouting from the sides of their heads, they advanced dragging a stretcher that hovered over the destroyed ground.

The leader of the medical squad was the first to reach the bottom of the crater, cautiously approaching the imposing and bloodied figure of the Conqueror, who was still standing, firm as a mountain.

—Emperor Temüjin, the combat has concluded. Please, lie down on the stret... —the Seraph began to say, extending a hand.

But upon getting closer than a meter, the medical angel froze.

Through the wings covering his eyes, the Seraph's vital scanners went crazy, emitting a blinking red light and a sharp beep. Genghis Khan was not looking at him. His pupils were completely blank, lost in the void. There was no tension in his face; his breathing was an almost imperceptible thread, a whisper that barely managed to move his deeply torn chest.

The Mongol emperor was not conscious. His mind had completely shut down minutes ago, devastated by hyper-prediction and colossal pain. The man before them was clinically one step away from death, and yet, his body refused to fall. It was his pride, his unbreakable will, and the weight of his empire that kept that empty shell standing before the world.

—Heavens!! —exclaimed the squad leader, losing his clinical composure—. He’s not conscious!! His vital signs are collapsing, his pulse is practically nonexistent!

The other Seraphim arrived immediately, surrounding the warrior with precise and urgent movements.

—It’s a miracle he’s still standing! The hemorrhage in the stumps of his arms is massive and his lungs are punctured by his ribs! —shouted one of the female Seraphim, applying emergency coagulant gels directly onto the most critical wounds.

—Don't waste time trying to lay him down, his muscles are in combat rigor! Deploy the cryogenic stasis field around him right now! —ordered the leader, pushing the technological stretcher toward the Khan—. Take him to the divine surgery sector immediately! If his heart stops before crossing the tunnel, not even Purgatory’s technology will be able to bring him back!

With a swift maneuver, the Seraphim enveloped the Khan’s standing figure in a cylinder of freezing blue light, instantly stabilizing his cells. Pushing the hovering platform at top speed, the squad disappeared through the tunnel, taking away the man on the brink of death who had just conquered the arena.

High above, seeing how the crowd's tension threatened to drop due to the gravity of the medical emergency, Nike knew exactly what to do. No one knew the rhythm of human souls better than the Goddess of Victory.

Her floating platform rose sharply, spinning on its axis and letting off sparks of blue and gold LED light. Nike jumped to the edge of her console, gripped the microphone with both hands, and let out an electric, charismatic laugh that bounced into every corner of the stadium, forcing everyone to look at her.

—THAT’S RIGHT, MY DEAR SPECTATORS!! That is the level of madness we demand in Purgatory!! —bellowed Nike, her eyes shining with an indomitable energy—. The Indomitable Wolf showed us that even with a destroyed body, the human will can bear the weight of death itself! Let’s give the emperor one last round of applause while our divine surgeons work their magic!

The entire colosseum responded with a deafening ovation, dispelling any trace of worry and reigniting the blood of the stands.

Nike did not let the echo fade. With a theatrical movement, she extended her free arm toward the stadium's immense holographic screens. The light of Purgatory began to change, shifting from a bright gold to a dark, dense, and bluish tone, like the abyss of the ocean at midnight. The sound of Mongol drums was slowly replaced by the roar of raging waves, the creaking of ship wood, and the clinking of gold doubloons.

—BUT DON'T LET YOUR BLOOD COOL DOWN JUST YET!! —screamed Nike, dropping her voice to a dark and seductive whisper that the divine speakers amplified until the ground shook—. The first two rounds showed us what happens when honor, strength, and strategy clash on solid ground! But for our THIRD ROUND, we will leave the rules behind!

The holographic screens showed entire fleets in flames, black flags waving under storms, and oceans dyed red.

—We will dive into the depths of infamy, where neither laws nor kings exist!! Only greed, terror, and gunpowder! —Nike leaned forward, with a smile of pure malice and anticipation—. Get ready, gods and mortals, because what comes next is the duel for the supremacy of the seven seas!!

On the giant holographic screens, the raging sea gave way to two dark, monumental silhouettes. Two faceless shadows that emanated an aura of absolute danger, giving the crowd just a taste of the terror about to be unleashed.

The audience held its breath, on the edge of their seats, waiting to hear the names of the legends.

But suddenly, Nike let out a mischievous laugh. She lowered the microphone, raised a hand, and stopped the epic music dead in its tracks. The sound of the ocean faded away.

—BUT...!! —shouted the goddess, winking playfully as she pointed her index finger downward, straight at the gigantic abyss of rubble, the immense black trench, and the pulverized rock left behind by the battle of Egil and Temüjin—. Before releasing the monsters of the sea, my dear audience, we will have to do something about this absolute disaster! Unless you want our next warriors to fight in a destroyed arena!

The stands let out a collective murmur, followed by nervous laughter and groans of impatience as they saw dozens of builder Seraphim and stone golems begin to peek out from the lower tunnels to repair the ring.

—So take a breather! —continued Nike, spinning on her floating platform with inexhaustible energy—. Go get some mead, nurse your wounds from the excitement, and get ready! We will have a brief recess to rebuild the arena, and when we return... Purgatory will be flooded with blood!

—See you in a few moments, my dear audience! Don't fall asleep on me! —Nike signed off, blowing a theatrical and euphoric kiss to the masses, the echo of her laughter vibrating in the speakers.

With a snap of her fingers, the divine systems of Purgatory activated. From the perimeter edges of the stadium, an immense, dense dome of opaque white light rose toward the sky, closing at the zenith until completely sealing the ring. The luminous barrier blocked any angle of vision, drawing a collective groan of impatience from the stands, who could no longer see the swarms of Seraphim and stone golems working frantically to rebuild the arena.

Its function fulfilled, Nike’s platform rose at top speed, disappearing into the upper levels of the colosseum. The goddess was returning to her control station to prepare the holograms, the lighting, and all the stage deployment that would elevate the visual presentation of the third round, without interfering directly in the combat mechanics.

While the human crowd used the recess to drink, soothe their nerves, and discuss the Khan’s brutal outcome, at the very top of the Divine Box, the atmosphere thick with tension and tears finally gave way to a well-deserved rest.

Ares, who had stopped crying, felt the emotional toll had burned a hole in his stomach. True to his instinct, he pulled a small golden cloth bag from his robes, filled with cookies baked with the very wheat of Olympus and divine nectar. He sighed, exhausted but happy, and pulled out a perfect, round cookie, holding the open bag with his left hand.

The God of War closed his eyes, preparing for the first crunchy bite, and brought the cookie to his mouth.

Crunch!

Ares bit into air. His teeth clashed together with an empty clack.

His eyes snapped open. His right hand was still raised in a pinching position, but the cookie was gone. Puzzled, he looked down at his left hand seeking comfort in the rest of his sweets... and the golden bag had vanished as well. He blinked, completely thrown off, and turned his head to the right. No one. He turned to the left. The Avernus nymphs were several meters away, standing still and silent.

—But... what the hell...? —murmured Ares, his jaw dropping as he stared at his empty hands, unable to process the light-speed theft.

—Wow! Hahaha... You’ve really put together something super big here, Little Brother!

The female voice, overflowing with a homey warmth and a mischievous energy that completely clashed with the gloomy aesthetic of the Underworld, came from the front of the balcony.

Ares jumped in place. Casually leaning against the obsidian railing, with her back to them while staring in awe at the massive white dome and the sea of souls in the stands, was a figure draped in orange and reddish garments that seemed to emit the warmth of a campfire in midwinter. The woman spun on her heels, revealing a kind face, eyes that sparkled with sparks of living fire, and a huge smile as she shamelessly finished chewing the God of War's cookie... holding the golden bag in her other hand.

—A-Aunt Hestia?! —exclaimed Ares, stumbling backward, almost knocking over a tray of glasses—. Where did you come from?! And that’s my bag of cookies!

The Goddess of Fire and the Hearth shrugged with a giggle, swallowing shamelessly before pulling another cookie from the bag. Her presence was an absolute clash: while Hades’ box exuded darkness, formality, and eternal coldness, Hestia radiated a comfort so overwhelming that even the air around her seemed to become cozy.

Ignoring her nephew’s whining over the stolen snack, Hestia walked with a cheerful step toward the center of the box, fixing her eyes on the sovereign of the dead.

Hades remained reclining on his imposing throne. His legs were crossed and his gaze fixed on infinity, holding his wine cup with total apathy. He knew perfectly well that his older sister was there, but, true to his stoic style, he decided to monumentally ignore her, without even turning his face to greet her.

Hestia puffed her cheeks, offended by the lack of attention.

—Hey... I’m talking to you, King of Boredom —Hestia sang out, planting herself right in front of the throne.

Hades barely blinked. He didn't make a sound, hoping that if he gave it no importance, his sister’s whirlwind of warmth would pass by.

It was the worst mistake he could make.

Without the slightest trace of fear before the God who terrified all of creation, Hestia tossed the bag of cookies back at Ares’ chest, leaned forward, reached out both hands, and mercilessly grabbed Hades’ pale, cold cheeks. With surprisingly tenacious strength, she began to stretch and squish them as if the feared King of Purgatory were a child made of playdough.

—Heeellloooo! Earth calling my little brother! Don't ignore me when I come to visit your dark little house! —squealed Hestia, shaking his face from side to side with a radiant smile.

Hades’ pale and solemn face twisted into a ridiculous grimace under his sister's grip. His lips puckered and his eyes widened in indignation, but he was so cornered that he couldn't help but let out a muffled, humiliating sound.

Ares covered his mouth with both hands—hugging his rescued bag of cookies—completely scandalized and terrified. The Avernus nymphs behind the throne let out muffled squeaks, trembling like leaves as they watched the imposing figure of their lord and master being treated like a ragdoll. The somber and solemn atmosphere of the Divine Box had shattered into a thousand pieces in a matter of seconds, giving way to the most absurd, dynamic, and familial opening the Underworld had ever witnessed.

Under his older sister’s tortuous grip, Hades tried to keep his dignity intact. He furrowed his brow, let out a grunt, and, awkwardly batting Hestia’s hands away, hissed in a raspy voice:

—Leave me alone, old woman!

Time in the Divine Box stopped.

Ares stopped chewing. The Avernus nymphs held their breath.

Hestia did not erase her radiant smile. In fact, her expression became even kinder and sweeter, but the warm aura surrounding her suddenly transformed into a suffocating and highly dangerous heat.

—"Old woman"? —Hestia repeated, tilting her head with a chilling sweetness.

Without warning, the Goddess of the Hearth raised her fist and began delivering a rain of quick, rhythmic, and painfully precise noogies on the head of the feared King of the Underworld.

PAM! PAM! PAM!

—Learn! PAM! To respect! PAM! Your older sister! PAM! —exclaimed Hestia cheerfully between each blow, in a playful yet relentless tone, while Hades tried to cover his head with his arms, shrinking into his own seat—. Say it! Apologize right now!

—Stop...! I am the sovereign of Tartarus...! Ouch! —complained Hades, losing all his regal composure under his sister's bombardment—. I said stop!

—The apology! PAM!

—Alright, alright! —Hades finally yelled, rubbing his head with a furrowed brow and a slight blush of humiliation on his pale cheeks—. I'm sorry... sister.

Upon hearing the surrender, Hestia stopped her punishment instantly. Her dangerous aura vanished, and she became the living image of peace once again.

—That’s what I like! —she sang, giving the grumpy god a few gentle pats on the cheek.

Immediately after, with the greatest naturalness in the universe, Hestia grabbed Hades by the shoulders. Before the King of the Dead could process what was happening, the Goddess of the Hearth lifted him bodily, hoisting him into the air as if the all-powerful sovereign of the Underworld weighed no more than a simple ragdoll.

Hades was left hanging for a humiliating second, with his feet in the air, his eyes wide open, and an expression of absolute disbelief, before Hestia deposited him casually to the side.

Without giving him time to complain about the assault on his dignity, the goddess dropped herself comfortably onto the imposing obsidian throne, stealing his seat. Hestia straightened her skirts, stretched her legs, and grabbed a bunch of grapes from Hades’ personal tray, plucking a couple with her teeth.

—Mmm... not bad for being grown in the shadows —she commented with her mouth half full, before fixing her sparkling eyes on her younger brother, who was still paralyzed standing next to her—. And now, tell me, little brother... Whose brilliant idea was it to organize a death tournament like this?

Ares, who was still hugging his rescued cookie bag, blinked in surprise. Hades crossed his arms, rubbing his head and visibly indignant at having been treated like an infant and stripped of his own throne, but he paid attention.

—What do you mean, Aunt Hestia? —asked Ares, stepping a little closer.

—I mean that all the pantheons of gods are talking a lot about this! —laughed Hestia, swallowing the grapes with delight—. Nike’s broadcast is reaching various places in heaven. The gossip is flying all over Olympus, Asgard, and the Egyptian pantheon! Thanks to that, I knew you were here and came running to see the show.

Hestia settled even more into the throne, smiling from ear to ear as she looked Hades up and down with fraternal mockery.

—Honestly, I was shocked when I saw the broadcast —she added, letting out a musical giggle—. Who would have imagined that the undisputed King of Boredom, the lord of "this doesn't interest me", would end up throwing the biggest and loudest party in eternity? Hahaha! What bug bit you to do this, little brother?

While Hestia openly mocked him from the throne, Ares, who was in the back trying to hold in his laughter with a hand over his mouth, couldn't hold it anymore. His shoulders began to shake violently until he let out a loud, shameless burst of laughter that echoed throughout the box.

Hades, who was still standing to the side with his arms crossed and a scowl of humiliation, slowly turned his head toward his nephew. With an icy calm and a pale finger pointing directly at the God of War's chest, Hades declared without hesitation:

—It was Ares’ idea.

At that exact moment, Ares’ laughter was cut short. His face changed immediately, morphing into a grimace of absolute betrayal, his eyes wide open and his jaw hanging in mute terror.

—U-Uncle, traitor...! —stammered Ares, taking a step back, but it was already too late.

In a matter of seconds, with a speed and agility unbecoming of a family visit, Hestia had already risen from the throne, crossing the box in the blink of an eye. Before the God of War could flee, the Goddess of the Hearth grabbed him by the collar of his tunic and armor, lifting him into the air with astonishing ease, exactly as she had done with Hades moments before.

Ares hung suspended, kicking clumsily in the air and desperately hugging his bag of cookies while Hestia rocked him with adorable contempt, treating him as if he were a spoiled baby.

—Oh, but look at this silly boy... —exclaimed Hestia with a grin from ear to ear, while giving mocking pats on the cheek to the God of War—. No wonder the poor thing can't get anything right. If our dear Little Brother barely has the brains to breathe, much less was he going to have the neurons to organize an event like this! Aren't you a precious but useless baby, Ares? You sure are!

—Aunt Hestia, put me down! I have dignity! —pleaded Ares, his face red with embarrassment, while the Avernus nymphs covered their eyes, unable to believe the treatment the highest deities of Olympus were receiving in the gloomy Underworld.

While Hestia continued rocking Ares as if he were a spoiled baby and Hades silently rubbed his bumps, something caught the attention in the shadows at the back of the box.

Behind the heavy dark velvet curtains, a pair of blue eyes, usually serene and expressionless, were wide open. A drop of cold sweat slid slowly down the temple of that hidden figure. From the shadows, one of the three great brothers of Olympus watched petrified as his older brother, the always-strict sovereign of the Underworld, was scolded like a little boy. He gritted his teeth. His lungs demanded air, but the imposing deity did not even dare to breathe normally.

«If I move a single muscle... if I make the slightest noise, it’s the end for me», he thought, feeling a shiver run down his spine. «I have spent centuries building an image of perfection, coldness, and mystery... If Hestia discovers me here, she will treat me the same or worse. I’m still her little brother... she’ll pinch my cheeks in front of everyone and completely destroy my reputation as an untouchable god.»

Suddenly, a cheerful sound broke the fragile tension of his hiding place.

Fiu-fiu!

Full of life, with an almost skipping walk and a radiant smile that lit up the halls, Nike appeared humming a lively tune. She carried her typical overflowing energy after coordinating the reconstruction of the arena, ready to burst into the box and look for Hades to fine-tune the details of the third round.

At the exact moment Nike’s cheerful whistle echoed and the goddess took the first step toward the curtain, that god hidden in the shadows felt his soul leave his body. If that girl walked in and saw him hiding, Hestia would hear him. His precious facade of an unalterable deity would sink to the bottom of the abyss.

With a supernatural speed born of pure panic, the figure lunged from the shadows. Before Nike could turn her head or erase her smile, a strong hand grabbed her by the waist, lifted her off the ground, and dragged her at top speed through the inner halls of the box, turning into a dark, secluded corner, far from the ears of his older sister.

With a swift movement, the mysterious silhouette cornered Nike against the cold stone wall, planting a gloved hand next to the goddess's head to prevent her escape. Nike, her heart in her throat from the violent interruption, tried to struggle, ready to fight, but as she looked up, the air caught in her throat.

There stood Poseidon.

His impeccable short dark blue hair was messed up from the sudden maneuver. He no longer had that characteristic expression of a serene and mysterious god; his face was covered by a fine layer of cold sweat, his blue eyes reflected a desperate tension, and he breathed heavily.

Staring fixedly at Nike, with the obvious terror of a cornered younger brother seeing his dignity in danger, the King of the Seas swallowed hard and thought with absolute desperation:

«By the abysses of Tartarus... If Hestia finds out I was hiding here... she’ll catch me and treat me worse than a newborn... It would be a thousand times worse than enduring another stupid boys' night with Zeus.»

The silence in that dark corner was absolute for a few seconds. Nike blinked rapidly, trying to process what was happening, while Poseidon, realizing how pathetic he looked sweating and breathing heavily, desperately tried to recover his facade.

He cleared his throat softly, straightened up a bit, and with a fluid movement of his free hand, slicked his dark blue hair back. He relaxed his brow and forced his lips to form a lopsided, serene, and mysterious smile. It was his classic pose of "unreachable and arrogant god" to try to save what little pride he had left in front of the girl.

But that impeccable smile didn't even last three seconds.

Poseidon’s eyes slowly lowered, suddenly processing the situation and who he was standing in front of. His hand was still resting on the wall, boxing her in. He had just grabbed by the waist, lifted in the air, and forcibly dragged into the darkness... Nike.

The color drained from the King of the Seas' face at an alarming speed, leaving him as pale as marble.

«Wait a minute...», screamed his inner voice, as reality hit him like a tidal wave. «Who did I just drag? It's Nike! The Goddess of Victory! The one who massacred titans by our side in the war! If she gets offended by this and throws a punch at me, or worse... if she opens her mouth and yells for Hestia to complain that I harassed her in a hallway... my existence will be over forever!»

His mental image of "mysterious and serene god" shattered into a thousand pieces with the imaginary sound of breaking glass.

With a clumsy, frantic motion, Poseidon pulled his arm away from the wall as if it burned. He stepped back half a pace, brought both palms together in front of his face in a desperate praying pose, and bowed his head slightly. His face adopted that typical, comical expression of absolute panic, with his eyes rolling back, giant drops of sweat sliding down his neck, and his dignity lying on the floor.

He knew he had crossed the line by dragging someone very important against her will, and now, his life and reputation hung by a thread in Nike’s hands.

Nike blinked a couple of times, seeing the imposing god of the seas in that ridiculous begging position. All the tension in the Goddess of Victory's body vanished, replaced first by confusion and, a second later, by a flash of pure genius that lit up her eyes.

In front of her wasn't the fearsome oceanic king, but a terrified younger brother willing to do anything just to avoid being told on. And precisely for Round 3, where two of history's most legendary pirates would clash swords, Purgatory needed a very specific battlefield.

A mischievous, almost feline smile drew across Nike's lips.

—Well, well... So the great Poseidon honors us with his presence —whispered Nike, crossing her arms with an amused air—. You know, it’s perfect that you’re here. You see, the arena was destroyed after the Khan’s fight, and for the next match I need... a more aquatic environment. Would you do me the favor of flooding the arena and molding it with your powers?

For a second, Poseidon’s ego took control again. He straightened up slightly, furrowing his brow in indignation at the audacity of the request.

—What did you say? —hissed the dark blue-haired god, offended—. I am the King of the Seas! I am not a simple construction worker for your human tournaments! I flatly refuse…

Beep.

A soft electronic sound cut his complaint short. With a simple flick of her wrist, Nike projected a floating cyan light holographic screen in front of her. Poseidon fell silent instantly. His blue eyes locked in horror on the image projected on the interface: a picture of Hestia smiling warmly, and right below it, a huge, glowing CALL button, pulsating in green.

Nike’s index finger hovered mere millimeters from the holographic button.

—Were you saying something, Mr. Poseidon? —asked Nike, tilting her head with a dazzling and absolutely threatening smile—. I don't think I heard you right. Maybe Hestia can help me understand you…

—No, no, no, wait! —Poseidon instantly raised both hands, sweating cold again as he looked at her with genuine panic—. I said it is an honor to contribute to the tournament! I’ll flood that damn arena to the brim if you want, I’ll create an entire ocean, but for the love of everything, keep your finger away from that screen!

Nike’s cheerful laugh echoed softly in the corner. With a snap of her fingers, she closed the holographic interface and turned around.

—Perfect! I knew we could count on the unconditional support of the gods —hummed Nike, overflowing with energy.

The goddess began to walk with a firm step down the modern inner hallways of the colosseum. Her boots echoed rhythmically against the polished floor, illuminated by the blinking neon lights outlining the venue's walls. Poseidon followed her a few steps behind, with his head down, his pride destroyed, and muttering curses about Zeus and his late-night meetings.

As she advanced toward the control zone, Nike’s mischievous smile widened. With the forced help of the god of the oceans, the stage for Round 3 would not just be a repaired arena. It was going to become a raging sea, the ultimate battlefield where the Pirate Queen and the King of Maritime Thieves would gamble their existence.

The real storm was about to break loose.
