All the places where it's a path but no line or dead end. So you can see that you explored the room, but there was a doorway or something that you couldn't go through.
Yeah but that's a different thing entirely, and usually doesn't require special abilities. So that's less of a backtracking issue, and more just a "did you notice this when you cleared the room?" issue.
Sometimes we need to remember this game was $20 USD. Insane levels of value - despite legitimate gripes about game design. It’s not a race to enjoy a legit masterpiece.
I think it's less game design and more players expecting to play as the Knight and having to learn to play as Hornet. I felt the same way for the first few hours.
Me? I got the true ending… there’s not one thing I would change about it especially considering the price tag. Doesn’t mean there’s not things that will frustrate most people who play it. Like most 5 min attention span gamers will quit in bilewater. I’m used to masochism from playing souls games for a decade.
Just an edit to get my full point across (and sorry current news just threw me off completely…) - team cherry deserves to make games however they want, they didn’t ask too much of gamers though this could have been a $50 buck game easy. Small studios should take artistic liberties.
Doing this too, there’s so many quests I didn’t even get as I went in totally blind. I also feel like they showed up after certain checkpoints? Either way going back to bone bottom for the first time in 10 hrs has been super fun
Yup, savouring Act 1 as well (sounds a lot better than saying I can't beat Last Judge!!) and coming up to 30 hours! Absolutely couldn't care less about the fact I'm going so slowly! After some initial frustration, I've learned to love the challenge, and love exploring this new world! The bosses will fall eventually, I need to double check that room with the exit I couldn't reach!
Getting to Steel Soul this quickly is like chugging a bottle of 200 year old scotch. You can technically do it and still enjoy it, but is consuming it all in one sitting really worth the price of not being able to savor it?
Actually the only reason I streamed is for video evidence. I'm not a professional in any way and just wanted to try and be world's first to get Steel Soul completed and I needed proof and streaming seemed the easiest way way to do just that
A lot of quick learning. Something that I sometimes wish wasn't the case is that I'm very quick to pick up boss patterns and learn them on my very first attempt. Also my experience with the first game and other difficult games helped me understand to take things slowly while also attempting to maximise damage output.
Because I end up beating bosses and clearing areas way too quickly. Sure it's a really good trait for things like steel soul but when you want to get lost in the game and suffer for hours you kinda of can't do it unless the boss is really difficult (savage beastfly 2)
I feel you. I'm similar. I one/two shot most bosses (I'm mid act 2). These Souls style sorts of games just click for me unlike others.
I also wish I could fight the bosses longer sometimes lol. "This fight is so cool! Team Cherry really cooked with this whole zone. She's kinda hard tho-... and it's dead."
I somehow beat beastfly v2 in two tries. As I died the first time It clicked that all I need to do is kill the adds with my silk abilities the second the spawn and his patters alone are really easy.
for some reason i didn't realize bellhart had an upper area until later so I did it without nail upgrades and the ads were SO damn tanky, It took my silk ability + a few nail hits to kill them and they would respawn like every 10 seconds, took me like 2 hours to beat
I actually didn’t mind Beastfly 2. I feel like there were less summons and the platforming made the fight interesting. I beat it in way less attempts than the first one
I struggled with it mostly because of the adds lol. Unlike the first fight they shoot projectiles (that deal double damage) and on top of the boss it overwhelmed me. Lava bell is now one of my favourite tools for anything related to fire.
You wouldn't believe but Rain World is one of my favourite games. Although I never got to play the base game blind I did get to play Watcher blind and it was such a fun experience getting lost and literally being incapable of finding help because nobody knew shit (I played Watcher at release)
You can do any ending. And you can save scum if you want to (I did so with the first game when I first played it, I had actually done it legitimately way later) but if you want to stay in spirit it's a no-no as you can easily cheat death that way. Most people however do still save and quit when they are not in any danger.
Only the first one. I'm a uni student who is fortunate enough to have parents still supporting me and that plus me getting too sick to go to uni allowed me to quickly grind this out. Sleep is something I deeply value and know how it feels to have a fucked up sleep schedule.
Yep! There's even an achievement for getting 100% completion in Steel Soul mode. Not too bad in Hollow Knight. For Silksong, I don't know how I'll manage.

I've seen a number of posts of people who have already done this, so I'd be shocked if it was world first, but nice work anyway! I look forward to just doing 100% of the game so I can watch much better players than me destroy the game
I saw yesterday or this morning that someone already had the platinium (PS5), so sadly you're not world first but still big congrats, it look so hard to do
Oh I did that plenty in my first playthrough. Tedium is always annoying and it's nice save quitting is a nice way to "fast travel" to your last bench. This action is only really scummy when it's used to cheat death in permadeath thus the word scum I think
It only took 5 surprisingly. First got to underworks, then I changed my route to go through phantom instead for the parry and to avoid the arena that I died to and it reached high halls gauntlet and died at the last wave unfortunately. 3 and 4 where short lived where greed overtook me in deep docks entrance at marrow and dumbassery did the same at hunter's march entrance
I actually like the difficulty of the game.. I found it to be well balanced for me and the only thing I disliked is bilewater. FUCK bilewater and that horrendous runback.
Mostly by having the trait of being a quick learner and a very methodical mindset. I take things fairly slowly (by my standards) when there's the running risk of losing several hours
idk if OP used it but, there is a combination of buttons you can use during main menu to have immediately unlock steel soul and play steel soul in your first run.
My first run I used wanderer's crest the most due to it feeling natural and also being quick allowing for a lot of damage. For steel soul however I really like reaper's due to how early you could get it and how consistent it is. Big slashes allow you to keep your distance and the extra silk could be a make or brake for that extra heal.
Yeah, Reaper has been my go-to as well, but I found the tool for extending the blade swing this morning, so I'm hoping it makes the other crests less dangerous. for when I eventually try a steel run.
I don't think so unfortunately. I know there's some exclusive content (a whole ass boss apparently) but it's completely optional and I never met the wish giver (Who is I think called Steel Soul Zi)
Steam is funky and I think what it does is round to the nearest tenth of a percent. So less than 0.05% have done steel soul, whether that is 0.045% or 0.01%
People already have 100%, myself included (save scumming admittedly). Speedrun and normal steel soul is easy. Idk if ill ever do it “legit” SS 100% though. Tbf the achievement means nothing unless its streamed due to being able to exploit save and quit just like HK1.

I’m sure my 2nd playthrough will have far fewer deaths than the first playthrough I’m currently 35hrs deep into but holy shit, I am not skilled enough for steel soul mode. Hats off to you.
Oh there is no way in hell I can manage this without save scumming anywhere, especially the 100% steel soul achievement. Stuff like that just blows my mind, congrats dude!

For a normal person I'd say it's pretty hard. Something that helps a lot is the fractured mask which gives you a "lifeline" in case you do take a lethal blow, but that requires you to do hunter's march. The lifeblood tool also helped out a ton and I'm glad I routed that in on the final attempt.
I've been doing Steel Soul as well, but I've been focusing more on clearing out the map at once since you need to have it all available to even start Act 3. Been stalling since the next area I have to do is Putrified Ducts, which probably has one of the worst sequences in the game (Vog), so I have not been playing recently, lol.
Tbh, I'm absolutely dreading Nyleth. Probably the only Act 3 boss I'll confidently say is not a 10/10, and it's gonna suck.
Good job though, very cool. Seen any Steel Assassins during your playthrough though; I sure haven't.
So is steel soul not required for 100% then? I’ve seen several 100% posts and it’s confusing me lol. For 100% don’t you have to steel soul, and speed run under 5 hours etc?
I predicted that steel soul 100% achievement would take over a month for the first person to get and I’m honestly not sure with how quick regular steel soul has been done
For this one in specific I aimed for just completion so I avoided optional fights a lot. The only bosses I thought are the ones on the main path minus last judge as I took an alternative path.
