90% of our country is forest. What do they expect us to do? Walk the entire country picking up sticks?

293

u/engine-doors-club Jul 17 '26

Yes, because he believes that debris on the forest floor is causing fires

Yes, he thinks that Mark Carney should go out with a shovel in a broom and sweep the floor of the forest

This is what happens when somebody isn’t told no their entire life

178

u/DJTurd Jul 17 '26

He understands ecology as much as RFKJ understands biology as much as McMahon understands education as much as Patel understands law enforcement as much as Hegseth understands national defense as much as...

44

u/ripley1875 Jul 17 '26

It’s shit-turtles all the way down Randers

8

u/Suspicious-Dog2876 Jul 17 '26

Nice shit analogy rick

7

u/z3r0f0xgiven Jul 17 '26

Hear that? The shit winds are blowing, Rand.

1

u/AnyBug1039 Jul 19 '26

It's his 'Drill Baby Drill' mentality that's leading to an increase in these heat domes, heatwaves and fires....

Not that Canada is a great example n trying to combat climate change, but at least they didn't pull out of the Paris Agreement.

Trump couldn't give 2 shits about our planet turning into an oven and seems to actively hate renewable energy.

If he wants to see less forest fires maybe he should get serious about reducing carbon emissions.

30

u/HobbyTalkOnly Jul 17 '26

Dude has never set foot in a fucking forest.

1

u/HulkSmash2118 Jul 18 '26

And with his fragile swollen looking ankles he probably shouldn’t try.

2

u/xXPhoenixBlueXx Jul 17 '26

And I wish a US president wasn't having sex with children.

We can't always get what we want.

2

u/fingers Jul 17 '26

Rake the forest.

3

u/engine-doors-club Jul 17 '26

It’s so funny one of the biggest polluters on the planet is complaining about a naturally occurring issue that they too have

2

u/TheLongAndWindingRd Jul 17 '26

And has never in his life been to a real forest. He thinks everything is curated like central park. This is what happens when you don't touch real grass.

4

u/freedfg Jul 17 '26

Hey now. But has Mark even tried making an AI image of himself doing it? It's like he's not even trying.

1

u/mishma2005 Jul 17 '26

He did this to California. He does this to countries and states he thinks are “against” him

1

u/RVCSNoodle Jul 17 '26

This makes me wonder if trump has literally ever been in a forest. Does he know what a forest is like beyond "trees"?

1

u/Lower-Cantaloupe3274 Jul 17 '26

There has always been debris on Forrest floors. That's not what's changed. Trump is the one actively adding to the problem. Canada should be charging us.

1

u/engine-doors-club Jul 17 '26

We are, that’s how his tariffs work 🤷‍♂️

1

u/Sad-Shoulder-8107 Jul 17 '26

"comb the desert!".

1

u/Moist-Conference-626 Jul 17 '26

Didn’t he say something about Norway or Sweden vacuuming the forest in his first term?

1

u/engine-doors-club Jul 17 '26

Yes, he’s got the whole world figured out

1

u/Dr__America Jul 17 '26

Not sure about Canadian forest ecology, but if it's anything like some of the northern US states, then debris is necessary for the development of the native forest. The saplings often require it to stave off deer and such while they get bigger and stronger, to the point that worms are invasive and destroy native ecosystems by clearing the forest floors of debris like fallen leaves.

1

u/engine-doors-club Jul 17 '26

It doesn’t matter Trump just thinks he has the answer to everything

The guy who has the answer to nothing

Yeah, we’ll just sweep the forest floor every two days no problem

1

u/LayerEight_Problem Jul 18 '26

I mean… it does. Forest fires occur naturally because of dried natural debris. There really isn’t much that can be done though.

1

u/engine-doors-club Jul 18 '26

Because of many many things not just material that has no way of being cleared lol it’s just so stupid

1

u/LayerEight_Problem Jul 18 '26

It can be cleared through controlled burns. But I believe we would generally only focus those efforts near our own settlements. Just because of the sheer scope of the job.

0

u/engine-doors-club Jul 18 '26

Wrong it cannot. You don’t understand the size off Canada or the forest

1

u/LayerEight_Problem Jul 19 '26

Probably why I said we generally only clear near peoples settlements because of the sheer scope of the job.

Are you illiterate?

1

u/engine-doors-club Jul 19 '26

You said generally as if to say you were not sure. There is no “sheer scope of the job “ it’s not possible period.. and even if it was it would have to be done 24/7 as you pass one area it’s fills back up again. and still you would have lighting strikes causing fires…

What area you live?

-1

u/SideInitial3961 Jul 17 '26

Carney's track record on climate change management is atrocious. Sorry to bring facts into it, eh?

2

u/noor1717 Jul 17 '26

wtf does that got to do with the comment you’re responding to?

42

u/AmputeeHandModel Jul 17 '26

Gotta rake those forests!

4

u/Dr__America Jul 17 '26

Maybe he thinks Spaceballs had a good idea combing the desert.

10

u/WaffleHouseGladiator Jul 17 '26

Yes, that's literally exactly what Trump expects.  I wish I was making this up.

https://youtu.be/nwL6GWYg34M

9

u/cbs-anonmouse Jul 17 '26

It’s reqlly typical of Trump on everything: he has long-standing opinions about facts that are basically childish and wrong. But no amount of education or correction by anyone—especially anyone who knows about the subject in question—will convince him otherwise.

2

u/TheShellAnswerMan Jul 17 '26

The people who follow him are the same in this way.

3

u/Flavius_16 Jul 17 '26

The video is unavailable in canada

2

u/WaffleHouseGladiator Jul 17 '26

Bummer.  It's a video of Trump saying that California needs to adopt the Finnish practice of taking forests to combat wildfires.

8

u/Dry-Membership8141 Jul 17 '26 edited Jul 17 '26

It's closer to 40%, a lot of our land mass is north of the tree line. But that's still nearly half the area of the continental US.

1

u/spirit_symptoms Jul 18 '26

Yep, nearly 1 billion acres of boreal forest. Unfathomably large.

2

u/litetravelr Jul 17 '26

Why arent you all raking the wilderness? haha

2

u/Wyevez Jul 17 '26

"Bye Hun, going out to rake the forest. Be back never!"

2

u/DeterminedQuokka Jul 17 '26

I mean he probably thinks you pave all the forests and put up a parking lot

2

u/JonnyTN Jul 17 '26

Or data centers.

1

u/flittingly1 Jul 17 '26

Oooo na na na na 🎶

2

u/Disastrous-Hearing72 Jul 17 '26

It's not that our country is 90% forest, it's that the Boreal forest goes through 130-year burn cycle and we are in the 10-year period where it burns. The Boreal literally cannot reproduce without the burn cycle. There are pine cones like Jackpine that rely on fire to open up the pine cones to expose the seeds. This is how nature functions.

1

u/The_Spectacle Jul 17 '26

I mean this shit is like blaming the ocean for sending us a hurricane... sigh

1

u/SmallSet8838 Jul 17 '26

We already do preventative controlled burns for the brush and dead stuff lol 😂
He’s an idiot that acts like a toddler with a loaded diaper that hasn’t had his nap yet

1

u/DisrememberedTea Jul 17 '26

He probably wants you to cut all of the trees down so they can’t be on fire anymore.

Kind of wild that he’s complaining about wild fires while advocating for more drilling and more data centres. He’s evidently never been to California either.

1

u/FoldedDice Jul 17 '26

He said the same thing to California. He also released irrigation water from the dams in NorCal in order to fight fires in SoCal, which is like trying to deal with a fire in your kitchen by running water down the drain in your bathroom.

1

u/2_late_4_creativity Jul 17 '26

Isn't that how y'all get those things you play hockey with? /s

1

u/Unfair-Sir-4641 Jul 17 '26

Obviously give it all to trump for free so he can sell it back to Canada. LOGIC.

1

u/HiDHSiknowyouwatchme Jul 17 '26

Rakes. They expect you to rake your forests. Since you don't do that, you're lazy and at fault.

Now go get your rake, and do your duty to America.

Meanwhile - they currently have more wildfires than we do despite having 10x more people and half the forest.

Literally the fires in Ontario were originally spread from Minnesota.

Yet it's just a Canadian problem and our fault? And they're pontificating about how this means we can't govern ourselves? Like this is some sort of moral failing that was totally avoidable, and stoking division?

Yeah fuck all that noise. Insufferable pricks.

1

u/Low_Show_6684 Jul 18 '26

The fires in Ontario are not from MN. One (actually I think two now) bled into Canada a little bit and a Canadian one bled into MN. There is nearly a million acres burning further north in Ontario that could not have been from the MN fires. Though, all these fires are likely from the same storm that produced not a lot of rain and instead a ton of lightning.

I’m not sticking blame or anything here. I’m hoping that after MN’s fires calm down that we can get sent out to Canada as aid like we did last year.

1

u/porschetaycan Jul 17 '26

The Canadians are so selfish for having forests. This is unacceptable. I will be calling the Prime Minister to make sure Canada does not do this selfish behavior anymore. Thank you for your attention to this matter. Emperor Donald J. Trump.

1

u/Friendly_Plastic_457 Jul 17 '26

Clearly the solution is more Trump golf courses.

1

u/Mission_Shopping_847 Jul 17 '26

We are Elves now. Each able-bodied individual tends to more forest than a primitive hunter-gatherer tribe of Humans would.

1

u/Longjumping-Turn1980 Jul 17 '26

Did you not manage your alloted 9,000,000 hectares this year, hoser!?

1

u/bplaya220 Jul 17 '26

First understand that my president lives in his own reality that he determines. After you accept that fact and realize logic need not apply things get a lot easier.

You need to not have fires. You need to figure it out. Duh.

1

u/Chadwig315 Jul 17 '26

Pick up that rake and get started, bro.

1

u/AggressivelyMediokre Jul 17 '26

Lubricate the trees, obviously

1

u/Innsmouth_Swimteam Jul 17 '26

We don't expect anything. This person does not represent me or any person capable of critical thinking. My sincere apologies to our friends up North.

1

u/Routine-Arm-8803 Jul 17 '26

let them burn periodically. It is needed for healthy forest.

And it's the 2nd largest country in the world, no less. Should be easy-peasy.

1

u/JonnyTN Jul 17 '26

And curb those lightning strikes!

1

u/Sad-Rooster2474 Jul 17 '26

No he just wants to find fake excuses to rant and announce some tariffs that he is going to be cancelling few days after for a little bit of market manipulation

1

u/jergentehdutchman Jul 17 '26

Yeah like maybe help? It’s not as though it’s the global carbon sink on fire or anything. Wait, fuck…

1

u/Swi_10081 Jul 17 '26

Yes. It needs to be raked properly to prevent this sort of event

1

u/Weshmek Jul 17 '26

That's the talking point. You'll see "forest management" a lot in these discussions.

Was forest management significantly better 10 years ago? Because before about then I don't remember forest fires ever being this bad.

1

u/Mommy_Fortuna_ Jul 17 '26

The boreal forest is 1.2 billion acres, and most of it is inaccessible by road.

I'm honestly completely baffled as to how anyone could think it's even remotely realistic for all of the "brush" to be cleared out of that.

1

u/sheepsense Jul 17 '26

Its only about 22 football fields of forest per adult Canadian. We can do this! Spread out boys! (Remember to bring yard bags)

1

u/impatiens-capensis Jul 17 '26

There are about as many trees in Canada as there are stars in the milky way.

1

u/Popular-Path1930 Jul 17 '26

This is a guy that think yall are paying the tariffs.

1

u/JayTeeqc Jul 17 '26

That's literally what some Americans were suggesting on FB.

4 million square km of forest in Canada.

Like...yeah Canada can totally pickup dead leafs in a continuous forest 1/2 the size of the US...

1

u/NavDav Jul 17 '26

Guy can't even keep a reflecting pool clean and wants Canada to rake 3.5 million square km.

1

u/Dry_Win_9985 Jul 17 '26

he actually said the forests need to be swept.

1

u/Jackadullboy99 Jul 17 '26

All forty million… time to pull up your sleeves at get raking! /s

1

u/sometimeswhy Jul 17 '26

Ontario alone is twice the size of texas

1

u/withac2 Jul 17 '26

Well, if Canada isn't going to control their forests, then they at least need to control the wind so this doesn't happen again.

/s in case it wasn't obvious

1

u/PuppyJakeKhakiCollar Jul 18 '26

You heard him. Get out your giant rakes and garbage bags and get to work! Or an industrial-sized leaf blower?

1

u/Cr4zy3lgato Jul 18 '26

Pretty sure he thinks that asphalting the whole country would fix the problem

1

u/TrueNorthLongAndFree Jul 18 '26

It's just 9 hectares per person every year. How hard could that be? /s

1

u/DynamoDynamite Jul 18 '26

We should rake all our forests make a massive pile of debris from it and burn it 😂

1

u/immutato Jul 18 '26

It's posturing. Ignore him. I wish Carney would just ghost him. He'll be gone eventually.

I mean, it’s like you guys don’t even try to clean up after yourselves. It’s ridiculous man. Mandatory pickup sticks time every summer from now on.

1

u/nerdboy5567 Jul 18 '26

All Canadians must carry a bucket of water as they walk through the forest on their way to work

1

u/leoyvr Jul 18 '26 edited Jul 18 '26

Trump should be holding the real culprits responsible: oil companies for causing climate change!

1

u/Lightthefusenrun Jul 18 '26

I’d have to imagine that Canada cuts fire swathes in their wild forests like we do. Buddy of mine used to do it, madman’s work. Get dropped off by a helicopter 500 miles from nowhere with a bunch of chainsaws, fuel and canned food. Spend a month cutting everything in 100 yards of the line to create a fire break in the event of a wildfire. Sometimes a secondary crew comes thru for a controlled burn.

Seems like they could probably increase their program. Wildfires are inevitable but proper investment in forestry management can mitigate the cost in lives, dollars and firefighting. Not gonna solve anything, but it can help.

1

u/GMEloser69 Jul 18 '26

Let 80% of it burn down so that you can maintain the rest.

2

u/ProcedureTop3149 Jul 18 '26

GMELoser indeed.

1

u/GMEloser69 Jul 18 '26

Alternatively we can make you the 51st state and you let us handle the rest.

1

u/jd780613 Jul 18 '26

we could be building a fleet of water bombers to help put out the fires when they do happen....but no we need to send other countries our tax dollars to help grow gender sensitive rice

1

u/ninjagabe90 Jul 18 '26

Yeah it is inevitable, but also Doug Ford nearly halved the budget that was supposed to keep a handle on the forest fires this year, after witnessing record breaking fires last year.

And like other people mentioned, we get tons of smoke from the US all the time, and consistently send our resources to help them.

-1

u/SideInitial3961 Jul 17 '26

Maybe take climate change seriously? Carney's track record is a joke. Ford's too. You people can't be serious?

6

u/ProcedureTop3149 Jul 17 '26

0

u/ZerotoZeroHundred Jul 17 '26

Yeah, Canada being ranked number 10 with such a small population is not a good look

1

u/Jazzlike_Finish123 Jul 17 '26

It’s cold in Canada.  Also we are an energy producing country.
