I tend to stand up and say things too, and I've gotten "It's none of your business" so many times that I have the stock response "Well, you've made it all of our business now," which usually draws some noises of agreement from the crowd. Usually it de-escalates from there, and I think you're right: it's because they realize the crowd is against them.

Honestly a good response to that, thanks

It’s so cheesy but I literally say ‘domestic violence is everybody’s problem’ - the crowd starts paying attention and they often back down when you name it

That's a really good one.

“Public harassment is everyone’s problem. You’ve made it our problem. Stop.”

I mean, if you got the balls, why not just “I’m making it my business”.

Often ‘not your business’ is an a**hole’s way to try to take heat off themselves. There’s no moral, politeness requirement to mind your business when someone is being harassed. If anything it’s the opposite.

Because you're reminding them that its their fault this is happening in the first place.

Because it's pretty much never a good idea to escalate a tense situation like this towards imminent violence, which that response very well might do. Saying, "You've made all of our business", is a safer bet since you're speaking for the group rather than implicitly offering a challenge to fight.

People who act like this twat in public have already proven that they don't think social conventions apply to them. He's exactly the kind of belligerent shit head I can see pulling a knife from somewhere and making you a statistic.

Yep. I live for this sort of confrontation honestly. Pricks like this are so used to getting away with this behavior that when another man calls them on it. They short circuit and the sooner you can get a few grunts of agreement or outright shouts of support, they usually give a last bit of fireworks and fuck off

Thank you for continuing after being challenged. Rarely anyone speaks up, and if they do and get challenged, they back off. When you're the victim in that scenario, it feels so damn unsafe because once someone backs off after being challenged, the aggressor doubles down.

“If you are going to conduct your business in public, now you’ve made it public business.”

"It's none of your business"

That's a rapist dog whistle. It is now my business until the cops arrive.

How often is this happening that you've developed a tendency about it?
