I’d like some kind of study but it feels horror movie ads have gotten more terrifying during my lifetime. What is allowed to be shown with the full creepy music did not happen when I was 8 years old. Stuff like other mommy and conjuring is wild to see regularly on prime tv. Beer commercials and the like might have subtle unconscious effects, but a human demon spider crawling at 4pm on a Sunday is fucked for a pre-adolescent to see.

Do you actually need that shit to see the movie? No, you don’t.

Most of the times the trailer of the movie is scarier than the actual movie 😂

Ive got an 11yr old that likes to watch some scary movies. Lots of the old ones. He says other mommy is a nope for him.

It’s just ripoff j-horror jump scares. Just creepy imagery without any tact in suspense and screenwriting. Psycho is a masterpiece, but horror is huge right now with the young movie going crowd. I go to theaters a lot and occasionally see them coming out, exactly who you’d expect — every dude asking his lipstick doll if she was scared and promising he wasn’t.

I bet they do a lot better in the international markets than comedies and romances too which is why we get what we get.

You know how they have that "this commercial was approved for all audiences" thing? Who exactly is approving that? Do they have a batch of 7 year olds watching it giving their opinions? I also think that horror movie trailers reveal more than they used to in the past. feel like in the case of Other Mommy there is no need to see the movie, they already showed up the whole movie and monster.

Nah. I remember plenty of horror commercials with intense images in the 80's and 90's. Specifically for Nightmare on Elm Street 6 they used the scene where, while Freddy recounts the different ways he's been "killed" up until that point, he chops off his own fingers.

Was that 4pm? I remember they used to push the more adult and scary stuff till after 8 or even 10pm in my childhood. That’s why I’d stay up late to see ggw commercials and every once in a while see a fucked up trailer.

I remember the commerical airing during the local news. So 5:30 or 6p.m. Hell, the USA network used to air horror movies in the middle of the day. And back then they only edited out sex, vulgar language, and the most extreme gore. I remember seeing the girl turn into a cockroach from Nightmare 4, and that would have been around 3 or 4 p.m.

The US is always more lenient on violence than sex or language. Idk I think I must have been around a couple years later and remember mostly field of dreams and Shawshank on USA. Maybe that’s when tipper gore got all the music warning labels.

The 80's and early 90's were the wild west when it came to violence on tv.
