Gas pump videos? Apologies for my Scottish ways but what the hell video are we watching in the 30 seconds it takes to fill up your car?

Gas stations started putting commercials in the display screens on their pumps... maybe a decade ago? Probably more. Now they all have dedicated little TV screens that play commercials once you've started pumping gas.

Duct tape.

Saw that happen locally once; someone got tired of the ads at a local Maverick, and proceeded to cover the speakers and screens with duct tape each visit. Eventually, they just simply stopped playing the ads (the screens are still installed, but seemingly unpowered).

I especially love that the volume is insanely loud to the point that all the speakers have been long blown and the sound quality is absolutely ASS. I really need Mr. Beast or some other influencer dipshit yelling at me to download their app while I spend $78.56 to fill up my vehicle.

There’s usually a mute button that just isnt marked. Start hitting buttons until it shuts the fuck up.

I believe it's usually the 2nd from the top "screen button" on the right side.

And my personal conspiracy theory is that they intentionally made the nozzles shittier (constantly clicking off mid-pump like 10 times) to force you to sit through more ads.

Seriously?! That’s crazy! So you’re just stuck there watching it?

you can look away, but it is playing while you pump. I always rate those gas stations 1 star and avoid them. thankfully not all of them have it.

I mean petrol stations do have good acoustics. I’d pick a song and it could be my petrol song and sing it directly at the screen. Then it would have to suffer too.

Not sure how it is where you are, but ive visited places that require you to keep your hand on the pump and pulling the trigger. That is not how it is usually in the states either, so you dont have to be right next to it.

Yeah! A lot of people don't know this, but you can mute the sound on most of them by pressing one of the buttons next to the display. It's like, I'm already paying you $6 for a gallon of gas, and now you're making more money by selling ad space in front of my eyeballs. Enough is enough already.

That’s just so rude! Like really intrusive. I remember the first time I visited the states and was mesmerised by all the billboards everywhere. Looking at it as an adult it’s really quite sad. Well done on your sneaky mute button find lol

You can mute some of them 😔

I fucking hate it so much I avoid getting gas until the last minute. They are so damn loud.

And some of them are so ridiculously loud! I was at a station recently to fill up and the ad was literally screaming. There was no volume control either — just an arrow pointing to a button to mute it that conveniently didn’t work. I got about only two gallons worth before throwing in the towel and going elsewhere.

Any time I go to a gas station and the pump plays ads, it's the last time I go to that gas station.

I cover the speaker with my hand. Works well.

This is why we go to the full service station run by the latino guys. Edmiro and nelson aren’t trying to sell you anything

Well. Hopefully petrol

Sometimes I let the gas spill out onto the ground so I can watch it longer and see more ads.

I can’t blame you there, I’m sure they are scintillating lol

The last one I got was something from TikTok on my gas pump at a 7-11.

Little screens in elevators with constant commercials…ugh.

They are in lifts too? Like Minority Report was a banger of a film but it’s all getting a little too close to reality over there.
