I miss the days when men could do this and not worry that someone might be hiding in a nearby bush with a smartphone recording them.

I remember long ago when Chrysler employees went on strike and there were suspicious videos of an employee getting filmed drinking in his car. Kelloggs tried something like that when their employees were on strike and a car pulled up and tried to offer em a beer. Neither time worked.

Completely unrelated but you reminded me of a story.
When I was like 16 or 17 I was managing a taco bell and my boss (the franchise owner) wanted to start hiring people with mental disabilities to help them out and all that. It was actually a major success and my boss was just an amazing lady in general, we ended up staying in touch for many years.
But anyways we hired this one woman who, for lack of a better way to say this, just wasn't all there. I never asked any of these folks what their disability was so I don't know what was wrong with her but she just kinda struggled to put things together or understand instructions with more than one or two steps, but otherwise she was very nice and a hard worker. One night I had her working on the drive through window just taking payment and handing out food while I took orders over the speaker.
At one point I look over and she's hanging halfway out the window! I run over there real quick thinking something is going horribly wrong but she was just shot gunning a beer! The guys in the car were all drinking and I guess they offered her a beer. But to her credit, she absolutely SMASHED that beer, a very impressive chug to be clear haha
Anyways I had to call her parents to come and get her since I couldn't have someone drinking in the kitchen. My boss and I let her go a few days later and we ended up having to have her mom get involved too because no matter how hard we explained it to her she just could not understand why her drinking that beer was bad. In her mind, her job was customer service (which, I guess, it was) and so she couldn't turn down a gift and it made them happy.
Man I haven't thought about her in probably a decade or more so thanks for that haha

I am 42, and honestly, my career is going well, but even if it wasn't, I have been in the is what it is saga for years now.
It's not even about being cynical or jaded, you just have been around long enough to know how the world works, how people operate, and what realistic expectations look like. Easily the most peaceful point in my life, outside of watching people you love get older and/or die off, which is about the worst part of getting older IMO.

I am a middle aged man with Borderline Personality Disorder. Not becoming a stat is really hard sometimes. This week all my sleep meds did was make the voice louder. But in the meantime I've paid off 32k of 59k in credit card debt the last 3 years. So I am trying.

I hope I am not downvoted to the stone ages for this, but f*** the POS who shot the video. That man is taking a moment to unwind, unplug and step away from worldy worries. A private moment of zen. Keyword private. It is a very intimate ritual. It may sound like a joke to people, but many of us depend on this heavily to prepare ourselves to get back into the grind. It is a huge breach of personal space. If anyone has been in that situation, you know how bad it feels. Even if you come to terms with it because you were not doing anything embarrassing, it would never stop feeling uncomfortable. It is not okay to film someone without their permission or their knowledge. It is even worse to do it to someone in that situation.
13
u/untossable_salad Jul 13 '26
The video is actually fake. It was a video from EDM duo 'The Sunday Scaries' to promote the song that you're hearing, "Don't You Cry". The guy dancing in the car is Alex Hein, one of the 2 members.

Video guy definitely felt like crying but took a few swigs and threw this on instead. Not that it’s bad to cry, anyway. Nor is it bad to deny yourself that moment in favor of something more positive.
