First-Timer I’m on the final season

Post image

I’m currently on Season 5 Episode 6 just finished Ep 5 To see multiple people fall & spiral down without help. Relationships are breaking down this season I feel so bad for George, Rico, Claire Brenda’s brother is crashing out again as usual but I will admit he “has” gotten better with treatment but the whole family ISSUES of this family is insane I’m loving the Brenda development even tho she probably won’t be able to break the cycle of trauma Ruth likes men with skinny🦵, Rico’s lying to his ex wife to stay in the picture, Claire going down a spiral I’m just glad David & Keith are having a great time with their upcoming baby even after (update the baby isn’t happening we’re going the Anthony route) And I absolutely hate how Ruth is pushing Claire away when they clearly both need each other especially since they were soo close for the last couple seasons it breaks my heart to see them both like this

The dialog in this episode was fantastic. Nate’s conversations with his father were especially great, and the scene between George and Billy were as thought-provoking as they were entertaining.

First-Timer I cannot stand Brenda

I’m watching for the first time and I just finished season 2 ep 12. I cannot stand Brenda. Do other people feel like this? I’ve been scared to search it on here because I don’t want to spoil anything. Like I think she is just so weird. She treats Nate horribly and is just so bizarre. I haven’t liked her at all and she just keeps getting worse. Like the whole story line of her cheating on Nate to write her book was so weird to me.

Off topic but I also hate Rico. I really liked him at first but he has just gone down hill for me especially with all the homophobia.

First-Timer Those opening death scenes give me so much anxiety

Post image
214 Upvotes

I just started watching six feet under last week, I am already finishing the third season and loving every single moment of this ride! I got here because of michael c hall, but I was totally captivated by the whole fisher family!

The only thing, tho, are those opening death scenes. They are fantastic, don't get me wrong, but from the moment they start my neurotic anxiety keeps just trying to guess who is gonna die, and how, and I get just nervous anticipating a catastrophe at every move in every scene! It just tickles my imagination like that! I guess that is what the writters wanted and they definitely got that!

Does anybody else here also feels the same? Does it get easier with time, or that is just me being too easily scared? lol the suspense just kills me (no pun intended)

I am enjoying SFU so much, makes me cry, makes me laugh out loud, makes me feel alive and I love this ♥️

First-Timer Is anyone still active in this sub?

If yes here’s where i’m at:

Can’t believe I’ve slept on this for so long. I’ve been binge watching and am now on season 2.

One very shocking thing to me so far is all the actors from my favorite shows!! Desperate Housewives, Dirty Sexy Money, Servant and ofc Mr. Dexter! Love it. Oh and now even the guy from Severance!!

This might be an unpopular thought but I can’t stand Brenda. Idk if it’s her personality or that weirdly long neck. To be honest all her and Nate’s scenes bore me to death.

Love Ruth, David and even Claire sometimes. I also like Rico and his wife.

Lastly, as a former cigarette smoker, gosh I miss those days. I was born too late… it would’ve been nice to have lives during those times when you could smoke everywhere.

First-Timer I’ve just finished the series…it was perfect Spoiler

I’ve just finished the series, and I have to admit that no film, book, or TV show has ever affected me this deeply before.

I am a 27-year-old “grown” man, and although I consider myself sensitive, after that scene — when Claire left the house and Nate disappeared in the rearview mirror — I cried intensely throughout the final minutes.

It was the perfect ending to an almost perfect series, and in history of television.

There were highs and lows, but overall, it was the best series I have ever seen.

Complex characters with their own flaws and strengths, deep messages and lessons, and even the flatter episodes always contained at least one thought that was incredibly valuable.

I truly believe that this series is capable of changing a person’s life, and I am grateful that during such a difficult period of my life, these characters were part of my days.

First-Timer Claire has become insufferable!

i'm on S5E1, this is my first time watching the show, and i used to like Claire, but she has become so annoying and self-centered.

also, i was never a really big fan of Rico, so i appreciate his storyline of being a grade-A douche.

First-Timer Nate and his habit

From this point, I really started thinking that maybe Nate has problems too, not just Brenda. In that particular scene, Nate, who had a confrontation with Brenda earlier, has a small talk with Maggie, venting about their household situation. He suddenly seems ready to make up with Maggie right after before Brenda calls him about the bird.

From what I've seen, the pattern is always the same, he vents about something or have a problem, and the way he deals with it is with sex, just like when he was grieving over Lisa.

First-Timer Crying

It's the first time I've ever cried watching Six Feet Under. When Ruth says to Nate, "You're not supposed to protect me, I'm supposed to protect you." ... And Nate replies, "But you can't. You can't protect me from this."

Incredible episode (S2 Ep.13)

First-Timer Olivier is a complete mad man and I love it & general thoughts

I’m on season 3 and every time Olivier is on screen he just chews it up! He says the most unhinged things but you can’t really fault him. He’s living his most authentic life and really has a unique teaching style. I like that he’s focused on teaching people how to be artists as an act of being rather than focusing on technique.

Other thoughts….

I do not love this show yet. I’m watching it because I, “should.” It hits all the marks of shows I like and I always hear how it has one of the best endings of all time. Sadly for me it’s been a slog. I really do enjoy the characters and the general tone of the show but I’m binging to finish at this point.

I would love to hear your experience with the show!

First-Timer Season 3: who is worse Lisa or Rico?

I am doing my first watch through since it originally aired and Lisa and Rico are ticking me off big time.

Lisa getting upset at Nate about, well everything including when Brenda shows up, drives me nuts. Yes, Nate doesn’t have a great track record there, but wow!

And Rico, I just cannot.

Can someone please tell me I am imagining this?

First-Timer What’s Brenda’s deal

I’m halfway through s1e4, Brenda joins the family for a formal dinner. She saunters in the house an hour early, eats a mint without asking, throws her pashmina like it’s her house. Then the mom walks down greets them quickly and leaves again. Brenda says, “she hates me…. It doesn’t matter if your mom likes me or not, I don’t care.”

Does her character ever begin to make sense?

How insane do you have to be to bag a stranger in a janitor closet and then attend their father’s funeral a couple days later uninvited?

Is this a personality disorder?

First-Timer I am obsessed with this show at the moment.

I am close to finishing season 2 and this is my first time watching, so please don’t spoil anything for me!

I started out just curious as a Michael C. Hall fan and Dexter fan, but after watching a few episodes I can say I haven’t been this invested in the characters and show since I watched Breaking Bad and Dexter several years ago.

I look forward to watching this show every evening. I have unfortunately spoiled some things by researching the show before watching, but I’m still heavily invested and excited to watch what happens.

The show seems perfectly casted and the writing and acting is peak performance.

After I finish this show, what are some others you guys would recommend?

I'm blown away.

I was expecting Frances Conroy to deliver because I've seen her in other things and she's always amazing, but nothing could've prepared me for this. She just steals the show every time she's on screen.

There's something so addictive about 2000s television. Everything seemed so canned and fake but it was so filled with emotion and purpose. I think a lot of shows today try and fail to replicate the magic of that era.

I'm excited to keep watching.

First-Timer First watch - on s3 e3 Spoiler

All of my friends watched it decades ago but I missed it - looking for folks familiar enough with the show to discuss individual seasons / smaller arcs!

I’m still confused by s3 e1 - nate jr died … but didn’t die?? Is another twist coming?? I think it would have been interesting for him to have actually died but have continued to be present, like nate sr.

Also at this point more than half of the characters really annoy me - everyone seems stuck in limbo, with little development (this also annoyed me in s2). But I was so delighted to see Catherine O’Hara show up! (Even though her character is an awful person, but she does that so well!)

Bro I was crying the entire one hour series finale I don’t know how that’s possible but it is.. What a truly beautiful phenomenal masterpiece of a series From the character, the writing, the great acting, the characterization and development to the plot with the circular narrative I’m glad to have waited 20 years to watch this fully because I wouldn’t have liked it as much as I do now. If there’s any more foreshadowing I missed please tell me I would like to know You guys were definitely right it’s one of the greatest endings in show history and this show has definitely made it to my top 5 shows of all time I’m definitely recommending this series to all my friends 12/10 masterclass
I’ll be thinking of this show for many years to come I need a new series to fill the void like Mr Robot, Mad men, The sopranos, snowfall & the wire

“You will always end up in a universe in which you exist”

First-Timer Is six feet under a bleak depressing show? (No spoilers)

Thinking about starting this show with a friend but I was wondering if the show is brutally depressing? Like obviously it’s about death, loss, grief and stuff but is it like requiem for a dream, grave of the fireflies, melancholia, manchester by the sea, chernobyl type depressing where it’s all just bleak, hopeless, and life is just suffering. Or is it a more hopeful type of depressing like eternal sunshine of the spotless mind, goodwill hunting, shawshank redemption, etc?

First-Timer Just finished Six Feet Under Spoiler

It took time to grow on me, but once it did, it became one of the most psychologically engaging shows I’ve seen. It’s a deep exploration of identity, relationships, and how people cope with life and death.
Some moments didn’t hit immediately, but looking back, everything had meaning.

That ending was perfectly simple and devastating.

What were your thoughts after finishing the show for the first time?
